Goodbye Autobahn
 |
Germany reGiis
So everybody knows the Autobahn for a unlimited speed limit. In a few months there is the election day in Germany and the only big political party CDU, which is against a speed limit is losing more and more votes and DIE GRÜNE is winning more votes and the 3rd biggest political party is SPD and they are bouth for a speed limit ... most German cars have speed limit built in anyways, so its not like unless you have a luxury sports car you can speed there

you can still go like 220kmh in them no? fast and safe enough

2021-04-24 15:36
There are only few zones which are like a few kilometres where you can go as fast as you want but most of the Autobahn is limited to 130 or 100 km/h anyways...
2021-04-24 15:48
U can go 220-250 in most cars, it just takes long to reach it

well, not my nissan leaf- pushing beyond 125 is practically impossible:( and battery only lasts like 20 mins if u somehow manage to reach 130 entersadgeman have to go 120 on the 125 roads XD

City car. But german cars are built for that, they are optimised for higher speed, which imo is a bad thing but whatever. Also most of the cars can still get to 200 smhw, even our toyota could get there. It just takes a long, long time but the smaller cars will Shake a lot but with those its usually possible, harder with bigger cars obviously

Yeah I (may or may not) have done 200kph in our Toyota (don't tell the cops). Steering got super light which is bad, also the noise starts to become unbearable. Clearly not designed for anything above 140-150

Toyotas are designed for japan where the speed limit is 100/110 i think
2021-04-24 13:32
yeah! electric city car so not really made for higher speeds hehe x)) but its fine for me, i never speed anyways and highest you can go (legally) in sweden is 125, most highways are 110 though which goes perfectly fine

You can pay and get in, but it's a long circuit, complicated and it's full of high end cars doing tests, so you need to be aware and let them pass, so it would be better and safer to go to any normal circuit. Take in mind, that if you break your car inside a circuit there's no free fix from insurance, same with autobhan when you reach certain speed.

Co2 emissions
2021-04-23 14:19

the cars which are able to go fast are usually modern cars build to have a lower level of emissions . I love how every country is like : Yea lets goooo electric cars but lets ignore the 1970 Ladas and Opels and VWs who alone are way more dangerous than all the new cars combined
2021-04-23 14:23
12 replies
Nah there are studies that there would be a reduction in Co2 levels if the max speed was like 130 km/h on the autobahn. But it would only be a drop in the bucket if we are looking at the bigger picture. I believe it would only reduce the total level of co2 emissions by like 0,1% a year.

sweden politicians: yeah flight taxes yeahhh ticket costs 50 eur? here *slaps on 100 euro* but if u want us to use railway instead, shouldn't you put this tax into making railway travel cheaper than flight? nononono railway costs 200 euro and the equivalent flight costs like 130 after taxes lol, so literally everyone will still take flight everywhere since its way cheaper domestically, so the tax is absolutely pointless for the environment taxes go to paying for *other stuff* ;)

1970 cars are pretty rare already + their price is rising so there aren't many that can afford to buy and keep them.
2021-04-24 03:18
Yes and no, if you compare a new utilty car with one of ten years ago the level of co2 will bea way better on the new, but if you compare it to a car that has +300hp or way more, they do a lot of pollution because they need like 3 times more gasoline than a normal car made for the city.
2021-04-24 13:10
Ehh.. usually the cars that do go fast are 1995 fords with braindead drivers. The maybachs will go 10-20 over even though they don't have gaps in the panels, better stability and aren't doing 7k rpm in 5th.
2021-04-24 13:52
Studies have shown that decreasing the speed limit would lead to less fatal accidents. Germans are willed to trade a few lives for faster travel times and a rush of adrenaline.

This really isn't true either though, high end EV's already have decent range - 400 to 500 miles. 200-300 miles at high performance and it is only going to get better as the battery technology catches up. There was just a recent breakthrough with lithium. You are just not seeing mass adoption yet because the world isn't quite ready. There aren't 1000s of charging stations available like there are gas stations because the grid isn't capable of it yet. Self driving isn't perfected and there isn't yet a solution to the lack of organs that won't be available if the world moves to EV too quickly. But eventually, you will be able to charge your car at work and public places so there will be little need to worry about range at all.
