My short term running goal
 |
China Grenadr
Going to post an update every Sunday. My goal is to shave 1 minute off my 5k time every Sunday until I reach 25:XX. Today I was aiming for under 30 mins and got 28:42. Next Sunday my goal will be under 29mins, week after that under 28mins etc. The route is 2k flat/slight decline then 3k up/down hills. In around 2 months I will go for an all time PB. (23:36) Not copy pasta ofc!

5km in 28:42 for a beginner is actually pretty good. Go for it man, you have to have your goals and try to reach them. GL brother.

Are you fat? Average guy should be able to hop off the couch and run a 28min 5km At that pace your heart rate should be 100ish

yeye gyazo.com/42469e249e28dd5cdfa26fe2f4a6d7.. 8-10 weeks easy-ish training for the average guy to get under 30mins seems more legit than "Average guy should be able to hop off the couch and run a 28min 5km" XDD

My first race, I'd never finished a course before but I did 10k in under 42 minutes. I got 'chicked' by my sister, a serious runner who did it 5 minutes faster Before that, I ran about 3km at a stretch. Numerous times since then I have ran with no conditioning and many months since the last run at no more than 5m/km I just don't think you're putting out

So because you got a crazily good time for not finishing a running course before makes you think the average person can do sub28 5k easily? lol You probably played a lot of sports which directly translates to running such as football or some shit otherwise you are almost 100% lying. You are not a couch bum to instant 10k 42min without being athletic.

Well remove the speed work and take only options #1 and #3 since I haven't only done speed work yet. I also cross train with weights.

Long runs are super important to build up your cardio endurance, especially as you are starting out. You don't need to care about the pace on the long run, just get the miles in and it will make you better at 5ks for sure.
