Hey fellow hltvers, This thought came across my mind a while ago, but I just wanted to write it down and share it with you. As I am sure you all know, decoys(the grenades, not S1mple’s teammates), aren’t very useful outside of a few semi-troll strategies like throwing the decoys to fake an execute and bait out ct utility/go somewhere else. But what if Valve made decoys like they are in Danger Zone? For those of you who maybe don’t know, in Danger Zone, decoy grenades emulate walking sounds instead of gunfire, so you can use them to confuse your opponent about the direction you are coming from and generally fool them into looking into the wrong direction. I think they could be useful on maps like Vertigo and Nuke that have elevation(to fake rotations), maybe you throw them onto Dust 2 short so a ct in ct spawn thinks there is more presence than there actually is. Or maybe, since they make a drop sound, double fake your opponent so they think you are just trying to fake them out, but in actuality your whole team is there, ready to go. I think that would at least be a valid attempt to make the grenade useful while keeping its flavor of being a decoy and meant for illusion. It will probably still remain very niche in its usage, but I think it would at least be more useful than its current form is. What do you guys think?

Pretty good. Oh yeah, about footstep decoy grenades in Danger Zone, how does that work? Won't they be able to tell that it's a decoy because the footstep stays in one place? Or does the decoy grenade have legs? Since in Valorant it's some shadow foot thing walking.

no it just stays in one place and plays footsteps, but it does confuse people a lot. The maps are pretty big so it's not always easy to figure out that is is a decoy. Sure they figure it out eventually, but all you need is like the 4-5 seconds of confusion to pounce.

Good idea , I think you should choose what type of Decoy you want : one who emulate walking sounds or the one who emulate shooting sounds

I feel like that would overcomplicate things a bit, but it's certainly a possiblity if Valve can implement it. Like maybe you have a switch on the grenade, when you pull it out you can press E and it changes the switch

I think pros at this point don't even register decoys in their brains because no matter where you throw one, a good player will know that 5 other good players aren't randomly shooting the wall in the middle of B apps

Yeah that makes them useless currently, walking sounds I think could at least confuse them for a few seconds. Vertigo is the main map I think they'd be good, imagine the t's take A ramp control, then throw the decoys down at the forklift room and the ct's might believe that the t's are rotating. It would probably pull at least one ct away from A

yeah that'd be some big brain stuff but the price would have to go up if they were to be buffed like that imagine a $50 device that could pull around tier 1 teams' rotations

Sounds relatively clunky, so you start hearing constant steps from 1 position (same way you hear gunfire now)? How would you even abuse this? to fake a rush?

It works in Danger Zone becaues of the huge map, wouldn't work in normal games because you'd hear the grenade being thrown.

good idea, maybe create 2 versions of decoys? example 1) usual decoy. cost 50$, gunfire sounds 2) walking decoy. cost 200$(example cost), walking sounds
