best countries to live in?

United States NABOT
TItle I think the US is really nice if you have money but if you're poor you have to go to Sweden or Denmark or something for good social programs to give you real oppurtunities.

People usually think that Japan is just Tokyo. Imo, the best of Japan is not in Tokyo, so, I'd say Japan as well, but with this condition in mind.

Are you Japanese? What's the best place to live in Japan in your opinion?
2021-05-05 20:14
1 reply
I'm not japanese, I plan to live in Japan in a few years from now, I had one or two friends from there in the past and could obtain some info that's usually hard to get if you don't know japanese. The best place to live will depend on what you're going to work, as some areas of Japan don't have the demand for some professionals. - Why people always talk about Tokyo: it's easier to get a job there (as a foreigner), the payment is usually better (although it costs more to live there) and there's a high probability that you'll find other foreigners there as well. - Similar, but better options, in my opinion: Kyoto (my top pick), Osaka and Fukuoka. Keep in mind that these are just the default recommendations besides Tokyo, if you're going to work with engineering/tech, these places are very good. I also recommend smaller cities (with a population of less than 1 million) as well. If you're planning to live in Japan, I recommend you to go to the r/japanlife and r/movingtojapan subreddits, you'll find valuable information there, much better than anything I could say.

definitely not, the japanese work culture is terrible, and they are still relatively xenophobic, not a good place to live at all imo

Relatively? They, Chinese and Koreans truly hate foreigners even their government keeps harrasing people who immigrate to Japan because they don't trust them

I spoke to many swedes, there are lots of immigrants and in future that's not the best place to live, Norway is much better at this point though I agree with u, Sweden isn't bad with Denmark

Realistically its probably between certain states in US or the UK. Switzerland is also a great shout. Really depends what you are looking for though. If you want to live in a country with a good climate, that will be a priority, if you want good health care then that will be a priority. US is amazing for some things but dreadful for others, same with uk same with switzerland. Its so subjective.

Stale economy and high inequality, inefficient (sometimes corrupt) public and private sector. If you want to get anything done - be it from private companies or the government - the experience isn't always good. Slow, bureaucratic, unreliable, poorly organized processes. Urban planning isn't great, so the major cities are very congested, with consequences for livability and mobility. A lot of housing is of poor quality. Good jobs are hard to find, and a large part of the economy is based on tourism. If you're a wealthy pensioner - life is pretty good here. But for most people quality of life is more than just good food and sunshine and there is a lot of room for improvement. Apart from these negatives I do agree with most of your positives.
2021-05-08 17:52

Question is:why are you using a Dutch flag? I take it you couldn't make it here. Good jobs are hard to find if you're a dumbass who couldn't get into Engineering or med school. Most of my peers are doing well with a HS diploma and a technical degree. Now, if you're a middle school dropout, the yes, you're fucked- but then, you're screwed doing menial job regardless of where you live.
2021-05-09 02:11
2 replies
I'm using a Dutch flag because I'm Dutch. I'm a software engineer working remotely so I can live anywhere in Europe. At the moment in live in Porto. I'm not gonna have a discussion about the labor market here, if you think it's the same everywhere you have no idea what you're talking about.
2021-05-09 12:26
1 reply
See, a true Dutchman would've said "Oporto". The job market is far from being equal across EU, but you make it seem like only a small minority can make a living in Portugal and that's where you are wrong and clueless. As for corruption, since we're a relatively small country it will make it seem as if it's a recurring theme here when, on paper, it's not any worse than any EU country and still far from the likes of Italy.
2021-05-09 18:08
If you're a wealthy pensioner, you're fine anywhere- that's hilarious. "Housing" is of poor quality in most rural areas across the world. Paris is a fucking sewer for crying out loud. "Major cities are very congestioned" I lived in London for half a year. Takes two hours to travel 20Km for most of the day.
2021-05-09 02:17
2 replies
I'm not talking about housing in rural areas - though your claim about it being poor everywhere is false. Housing here in Porto is quite bad: buildings are insufficiently isolated and people have trouble keeping their house warm in winter. Also related to the fact that energy is quite expensive in Portugal compared to the median income. I don't know why you mention London and Paris - I agree that they are very congested and poorly planned cities. I love Portugal but you need to stop coping.
2021-05-09 12:33
1 reply
"I love Portugal but you need to stop coping.". I'm not sure you grasp the concept of "coping". Portugal has a mediocre economy and is a below average country in general, but you literally said it's a 3rd world country: I don't think you realize what a third world country is...

Brazil pretty good place to live if you have a good amount of $$$ if not, totally not worth it. for ppl who are paid in dollars, euros, pounds, dinars, Brazil is a very cheap place. But for ppl who work in Brazil and are paid in reais, everything will be expensive.

Not much of mosquito issue here, but in Norway they have some the size of helicopters. Iceland is a fascinating place, but when comparing I would say we have better beaches, less active volcanoes and easier access neighbors - like for example in normal times it is just a long drive to a October fest

Ye a lot of veterans of Serbia went in USA. But it is expensive to travel for me because here in Serbia is bad situation ,especially because of corona...But i always wanted to speak with Veterans from Pacific Theater.... I read a lot of books like "With The Old Breed" and "Helmet For my Pillow"i really love history especially about WW2 and what these mens went trough is something different, their every day was D day,if you ever read book you will know what i am talking about. Sadge a lot of them died from sickness before 2010 , because i am now just 17. Looks like i was not born to meet them :D

Probably Singapore or Hong Kong or China or Canada Europe - High income tax, not a big fan of it US - Don't want to die in some robbery gone wrong. Also attacks on asians are increasing. Indian subcontinent - Too much corruption Middle east - Too much conservative Australia/New Zealand - Probably good options Korea/Japan - Kinda xenophobic
