sh1ro doesn't play for impact
 |
Australia Vespurr
I just spent hours today watching ESL_POV2 stream and that stream only. For those of you not aware, the title of the stream is "LIVE: sh1ro POV - DreamHack Masters Spring 2021". Although it is incredibly fun to watch sh1ro's aim as this young kid has incredible aim and movement, it is clear that he doesn't play for impact. Forget about ratings, stats don't tell the story as much as literally watching sh1ro does. sh1ro plays the safest position in order to not die early, rarely goes for anything aggressive on either T/CT even on eco rounds, and doesn't take any risks. Most of the time sh1ro is just holding the line with the AWP until someone walks into his crosshair. If nafany's gameplan for the particular round doesn't work out, then sh1ro usually just run away to save the AWP (on CT).

The objective of Taking risk is not to die early in the round, but rather to create an advantage for your team which heightens the probability of winning the round. If he was the s1mplestomper that people make him out to be, Then surely he could go 10-0 in opening duels every game, right?

Improvements have to take place tho. Like removing X Rays and adding the layer's crosshairs and maybe their settings as well? That would be super super cool. Maybe also add the players cam? As entertainment to watch after their death?

Removing x rays would be a bad idea, because lots of new csgo players wouldn’t really know what’s going on while watching this, and as an effect would probably lessen the viewer count. I agree with adding players settings, but it might take up too much screen if you are talking about inserting them in the HUD. Beyondthesummit had a tourney where they inserted player’s crosshairs and it was really cool to see what crosshairs pros use, and finally for player cams after their deaths, many pros would object to this obviously so that will probably not happen.

The settings should be like watching the pro stream his own game. So the stream is streamed on the res the player is using + his crosshair. Would be more entertaining imo.

btw sh1ro said he've learned from jame's demos a lot
2021-05-08 18:52
Most of the time yes, sometimes Jame goes aggressive as well. Dont need those streams if you have watched cs a lot, minimap is enough to see what everyone is doing and how they are reacting to different situations

Sure, but safer plays =/= no impact. If you win by having better position, it doesn't mean you are bad. It's the opposite

He has a low impact for his stats, is what I think the guy who made the thread is saying. Compared to ZywOo and s1mple, sh1ro really doesn't have nearly the same impact as them. But his whole team is playing very well anyway so it doesn't matter so much tbf. Gonna be interesting to see how sh1ro performs if ax1le or hobbit drops off in performance and if he's going to try to take more risky duels to help his team out more.

Well, you can only get into that position if YOUR TEAM is playing well. That's why I think it's important to note that it's the WHOLE Gambit TEAM that is contributing to this success, not only sh1ro. Sh1ro is not carrying Gambit by any means.

I'm not the typical user who replies "flair checks out" to others. Actually I don't think I've ever done it before, but that is ironic as fk coming from a NiKo fan. I don't think I've seen someone set around bait/cheap lurk setups so much as NiKo since S1mple on Na'Vi back in 2018 with Zeus.

Not taking early risks is a good thing, I don't know if you realize that. Unless your team is weak that's been the meta for several years now. Losing awp early = lose round

"Not taking early risks is a good thing" Never taking them is not a good thing. Someone has to take that risk and there's a lot of situations where the AWP is better off than a rifle.

2021-05-08 19:14
Your observation is correct, but the inference probably isn't. My opinion is that, a player's playstyle should be dependent on the teamplay. And the way Gambit players play, sh1ro doesn't need to do the things you mention. It's effective for him to play very safely.

He fits in a setup where he isn't required to do many risky plays or show aggression. Just because getting an opening for instance increases your impact rating, doesn't mean he can't be impactful in any other way while playing safe. He still holds the highest impact rating in the team after all. There are many forms of impact and I feel like people only think of opening frags as the whole criteria for being impactful. Moreover he still wins a lot of clutches as the last player alive. If it works for him and for the whole team, he's doing nothing wrong.
2021-05-08 19:01
he provokes chaotic situations, but his team makes him play in safe angles mostly. one time or another he risks himself into something tricky and usually is rewarded by his amazing mechanical skill

He plays like every other CIS awper does. Jame, somple, etc all bait hard and save. Its more of a regional playstyle
2021-05-08 19:20
sh1ro is probably the smartest player in decision making on csgo rn. all his decisions are on point and he always seems to know exactly what he is doing. for sure he lacks proactivity, but there are players doing it on gambit. if sh1ro needs to be proactive during a round, it’s because round plan was fucked up.

I want to see this kid on LAN, actually there is a lot of players I want to see in LAN from this online era to see if they can actually deal with Na'vi's slow execution t side where you actually have control over your timings instead of random shit happening every round. If LAN was still here Na'vi would be dominating the scene so easily rn, they are really the only non pug onliner trash team in the tier 1 atm who isn't struggling to adapt to the meta as they still produce results, their play style will work way better in LAN it's obvious but it's strong enough to compete even onliner pug CS which is good sign, Na'vi era is coming when LAN is back.
