I'm quite confident this paints a good picture of the current scene. We got 3 teams that are far above the rest, and 3 teams that can decently contest. And then we got pretty much the rest.
VP are at risk of falling off to B tier after three 7-8th placings in a row and losses to coL, HAVU, ForZe, G2, and NAVI.
Spirit, just like VP, are still living off from that deep Katowice run. Since then, squat. 9-12th at DH, 5-8th at SSS and couldn't qualify for Blast Spring Finals. Losses to VP, ForZe and G2. They'll remain top B tier unless other B tier teams start to wake up or Spirit start falling off further.
NIP, 3-4th at EPL. With Device, they can only get better. I'm expecting them to see them in A tier pretty fast.
Astralis, are a weird team to rate. They started DH showing they weren't all device with wins vs coL and ES but got completely outclassed by Heroic. I'm not sure where the team will go. Bubzkji is playing much better but it's a result of taking dupreeh's roles while the latter AWPs and on that note, Dupreeh hasn't been very impactful with it just yet. If Dupreeh's AWPing evolves, they could climb another tier, if it doesn't, then I'm not sure what that means for Bubzkji.
Liquid, another weird team to rate. They had a great run at Katowice. Their loss to G2 was a surprise but ultimately acceptable considering the position G2 currently holds. But their 2-0 to Dignitas at Blast was alarming to say the least. The team looks great on paper and with adreN coming back, I expect them to (and they should) at least climb to the A tier. Anything less than that would be a failure in my eyes.
The rest of the B teams are teams that can beat each other and even take a map from teams above them with maybe even the occasional win but they still have to prove they can truly punch above their tier. OG losing 2-0 to a "weakened" Astralis, is exactly what I mean. coL are super inconsistent, didn't qualify for Katowice, 5-6th at EPL, 5-6th at Funspark, 9-12th at DH. I feel that some of their recent best wins are more related to some of the inconsistency of certain better teams rather than actual merit.
FaZe. I simply cannot accept people saying "give them time/a few months" when teams like Heroic add two new players, win EPL vs the best team in the world and follow it up with high placings. NAVI added b1t and went from a 9-12th EPL to a DH win that included beating both Heroic and steamrolling Gambit 3-0. Yes, It's different adding 1 player from adding an IGL. But FaZe show no sign of improving after 3 months. Karrigan's teams usually get better when he arrives (before eventually falling off) but that is not the case here. Karrigan continues to flop in the fragging department and coldzera & rain take turns on who will suck each match. Maybe it was because they had nothing to lose but FaZe looked much stronger a few matches before Karrigan arrived.
