hip hop goat

if you dont listen to hip hop its pretty obvious you shouldnt comment but oh well anyways who do you guys think is the goat of hip hop? this might rustle some feathers with old heads but i really think kanye is the greatest to ever do it as an artist. hugely influential to music in the 2000's, one of the best discography, produced his own music. i dont think hes the best at anything when it comes to rap or hiphop, definitely not the best rapper, but looking at his music as a whole and his career i dont think anyone else can really touch it. /discuss remember to always be civil and polite :D

tbh i dont know what to make of eminem. obviously his early career is insanely good, but i cant tell if i like his modern style or not. regardless his lyricism is for sure some of the best ever.

I don't have a list, making a top 10 like this is irrelevant because in the end music is subjective. And I don't solely listen to hip hop/rap so therefore my opinion on this topic is kinda irrelevant anyways. What I said, and meant, is that I consider those three to be up there in the realms of hip hop, whether they are or not in your frame of view is 100% up to you.

I never criticized your list, I was purely making a statement based on my opinion of the topic, that I believe those to be some of the top tier artists of the genre. i had a bit of trouble decided where 2pac and biggie fit in, i decided they were basically equal but i dont think either had enough time to make music to be #1 and #2 like a lot of bandwagons just default to would be like if GTR died in 2013 and everyone decided he was the goat, like they were great but dont have the longevity of nas em and jay z
2021-06-11 16:42

yeah i think their discographies just arent good enough to put them that high, i also basically have them tied when i think about it. people might get mad at me for saying this, but their legacy is kind of overstated. on the other hand nas, jay, em have changed the game. thats why for me kanye is n1, like he isnt that good of rapper and hasnt been around for that long (compared to others), but imo has impacted the rap game so many times. i also just like the way the music sounds xd

if were going off pure flow, biggie is the goat, but like u said, their legacies are a bit overrated because they were killed and werent able to maintain a long period of dominance in the rap game, i think had they not died biggie would be the goat and 2pac 2nd but we'll never know

yeah i think like, the most skilled rappers ever are biggie and maybe pac as well. imo i was never that much into 2pac, but biggie i still love his music. i feel like this is kind of generic, but biggies first verse of notorious thugs is just the best thing ever. its so good. if we wanna talk about flow back to andre 3000 (outkast specfically), aquemini was crazy. i dont think its the best flow, but the lyrics and rhymes are complicated yet it just blends and flows well with the music, very enjoyable to listen to.

ofc he isn't anymore, Jesus is king is a gospel/hip hop album and he seems to be going more in the way of gospel type works in the future. But you have to be utterly retarded to think that his earlier and most popular works aren't hip hop. Kanye is LITERALLY credited with the upcoming and popularization of modern hip-hop. Also I am fakeflagging.
2021-06-12 00:47
drake)) no but its actually kanye i agree, 17 years in the spotlight, made huge waves with each release and none of them forgettable with each being different in its own way while still being successful critically, commercially and in terms of influence has crazy stories and in many ways is the epitome of a rapper when it comes to the lifestyle, has produced many great albums for other artists, only thing he lacks is lyrical skills but personally i wouldnt want to hear him rap like eminem or tech nine because his music is more personal and not about showing how fast he can flow so it suits his style, imo it doesnt detract from his status as the GOAT

+1 very good write up on kanye, agree with everything. i think kanye is a true artist. besides his music i respect him for not giving a fuck and doing what he wants. very original guy. true on the lyrical ability lacking as well, but its made up by his ability to produce music which works very well with his vocals. also drake most overated artist of all time dont @me xd

Kanye isn't the GOAT for me but there is an argument to make for it sure Imo its: 1) Nas 2) Rakim 3) 2pac 4) Q-Tip 5) Kanye 6) MF DOOM 7) Biggie 8) prodigy 9) Eminem 10) Kendrick Notable mentions: Eazy-E, Ice cube and Jeru Nas has the greatest album ever even if people say the tracks he made after weren't as good, i disasgree with people saying the material he made after illmatic was bad so i put him as the greatest ever. Rakim is a controversial pick but his Rhyming ability is pretty much unmatched, sick beats and a lyrical masterclass. 2pac for being the west coast GOAT, smooth but very meaningful. Q-Tip is another controversial one but the work he did in Tribe was fantastic along with a general good body of work outside it. Kanye just has a fantastic output through the years even if for me he isn't the greatest rapper alone. MF has got a way with words that can only be rivaled by Nas or Rakim. Biggie is the classic west coast rapper, hes got good rapping ability even if he lacks in other areas. Prodigy was the main voice behind mobb deep with a fantastic resume outside it as well. Eminem is good with words, not totally my style but i can respect it a lot. Kendrick quite the same, i think hes good for a modern rapper but nothing close to the 90's ones.

Since the hiphop scene is so broad, with so many subgenres and things to consider, there's a couple of GOATs to consider, which are: - Eminem - Kanye West - 2pac and I have no idea why Biggie always said to be the best but I am not a biggie fan and didnt read into him, so oh well All of the other ones mentioned like Rakim and Nas are great, and they are pioneers for sure, but pioneering doesn't make you the GOAT.

+1 it has expanded to so many styles em for sure has the best lyricism kanye best production and overall sound (imo) and pac story telling + a great flow biggie had a really great flow as well imo, carried whatever he was on. i think nas is good and so is rakim, their influence is huge but if you dont count that i could see how you would not include at least rakim. i always thought nas was a pretty complete package though, but not goat.

There isnt a defined number 1 for me as it changes but it can be between. Black Thought, MF DOOM, Nas, Guru etc there are so many greats to just pick 1

black thought is a name i havent heard in a while kind of agree it can be hard to pick a definitive 1, as tastes change and it can be hard to categorise artists

50 cent Biggie 2pac jayZ nas Big L rakim and kanye for me eminem deserves a shout, i never liked his style but he has a unique way of rhyming words and pretty good lyrics 50 cent is underrated imo but it might some bias cuz hes my fav rapper biggie 2pac you know Jayz and nas got some classic albums and songs Rakim underrated Kanye been very consistently good throught the years Big l was very promising and talented

i think eminem's music is good but not goat tier, but his rapping is rakim underated for sure always say this feel like kanye has always been innovating you know? goat for me
2021-06-11 19:21
1 reply
agree with eminem kanye may well be the goat cause of his achievments throught the years and the fact most "goat contenders" in this thread arent making good music anymore/dead but for me i havent had a period of time where i listened only to kanye like ive had with other rappers such as biggie 50 nas and so on and thats a big thing for me
2021-06-11 19:30
Eminem is great and by far the most popular all over the world, he's the one that turned the tide and got hip-hip full-on into mainstream. If you want to talk about who's the better the rapper, then there's a lot of names to talk about but Eminen is the main man for sure.

yeah kanye still has his team with writers and dudes to help him produce, nas is for sure one of the best at rapping and better than kanye there i think em def is good, his writing, wordplay, and ryhme is there, but i feel like his post 2007 style or something is kind of just not hitting
2021-06-11 20:09

em is def top 15 but anyone who thinks hes the goat’s opinion is invalid the lyricism on mmlp is probably top 3 on an album ever, also relapse is great

yeah i wont lie, and kanye fans will hate me for this, but i only like 50% of mbdtf. i mean the good songs there are fucking 10/10s, but some just dont hit for me. on the other hand graduation is almost all 9/10+s for me, same with yeezus. i think kanye still hasnt been in it long enough to be goat tier like mf doom, andre 3000, nas. i think in 10-20 years people will look back at him in the same way. just so much influence on modern music, for the better or the worse.

for me it's the same, the strong points on MBDTF are very strong, but the weaker tracks are very weak. I really don't care about So Appalled, Hell Of A Life or the 3 min outro on Blame Game. Other than that is a 8/10 for me. But I really love KSG, The College Dropout, Late Registration, 808's and some Ye. But yeah, when is kanye is not on point he is very meh And while I don't care about TLOP or Yeezus that much, I love Bound 2, Ultralight Beam, No More Parties in LA and Father Stretch my hands soooooo much
