Have 1gbps internet but 260-300mbps wifi
ropz |
Estonia oOFusioNOo
If I connected Ethernet to PC then it's 930+Mbps download/upload But over wifi it's 260-300 if lucky on 5ghz. This shouldn't be the case should it? But I don't know what's the problem is

Oh yeah that's understandable then. I think that's quite normal, since Wi-Fi is known to be a lot slower. Also god damn I'd love to have a fast connection like you, I'm currently stuck with this: gyazo.com/cb265fb62a7824f7dbe36738bd906b.. (it gets even slower during the day) :D

Getting a better router or an access point may solve it. If you live in a big place, it might be good to build an access point mesh, at least on the most common places that you use wifi.

Did you buy your router or were it from the free wifi package from your internet provider? A lot of this free wifi stuff is cheap hardware that ISP uses to save money, they don't provide the best as a more robust router can do.

It's pretty normal. Have to have good router to have such insane speed wireless. And even if you do, your dongle (or phone) has to support it which most of the times they don't because they always have "up-to 1gb" or something
2021-06-14 05:24
If it's 2GHz then that's pretty much it. Don't expect much coming from wifi.

Walls and other obstructions slow down the speed when using wifi, while with ethernet its just a direct connection with no obstruction. Its normal if the router isnt close to you.

2021-06-14 13:24
Ppl have mentioned it here many times but you refuse to believe it. Its a hardware problem, either in your sending or receiving end. If you get 1gbs through cable it should be obvious that there is no problems with connection. You want more from wifi, pay more. Your internet is anyway already over the top so i dont see the point. Disable 2.4ghz wifi from router btw, devices connect to stronger signal and might cause you to have cut offs in wifi when its junping from 2.4 to 5ghz.

Wireless speeds will depend on a lot of factors. Which wifi standard is your router able to use? Which wifi standard is your PC able to use? How good is the connection?
2021-06-14 15:22
Check your wifi standard. You need the newest wifi 6 (I guess) to reach nearly< 1gb. Also, your network card has to support it. Best would be 5gz but then you have to sit directly next to the router to use it and then you can use a cable.
2021-06-14 16:57

The cable works fine 930mbps or more but even if I sit next to router it won't give me that speed

as I said you need a spceific wlan transimission. The ac (current standard) you get max 600mbps when you use 3 antennas With wifi 6 it is very easy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IEEE_802.11ax-2021 But you need a router that supports it and you need a network card for your pc that support it.

intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/arti.. Click or the topic for details: IEEE 802.11 Wi-Fi protocol summary Check it out. You need a better wifi card, it's not router dependent as most of the hltv network experts will claim. I have gigabit at home, only hit 250-300mbps on most devices. But my brothers expensive work laptop hits 500mbps. Same routers, same network.
