USA has a higher homocide rate than India , Pakistan, Indonesia, China and Nigeria. All of those countries are third world too while holding a massive pop.. They also have good police forces, so most of them dont go unreported. Only big pop. Countries that have more are Brazil (ofc) and Russia.

Gun laws wont work with criminals, they will just buy illegal guns to commit crimes, at same time the good people who obey laws will be unarmed My country has strict gun laws and every thief has a gun, even military grade guns in some plaves

2021-06-14 22:04
The problem is criminals are not going around shooting a school or a bus stop. They do their crimes with their guns yes and they are hard to stop ofc. But USA has a big problem with "normal civilians" going around with legal weapons shooting for not apparent reason. Crime will always happen but they can mitigate mass murders or attemps with better gun control.
2021-06-14 23:38

every single mass shooting is illegally using a firearm to commit a crime so as the original guy said if you ban all guns all that is going to do is prevent responsible law abiding people from owning a gun while Criminals will still be able to get their guns except now with less to stop them

I am in no way against learning how to defend yourself but I live in a country with strict gun laws and its not like we are seeing thousands of home invasions just because people dont have a gun to defend themselves. It's 120.5 guns per 100 people... The math isn't 1,205 per person. It's roughly 1 gun a person. When you consider most people who own a gun own multiple, you realize it's not a lot of the population that owns guns. I think every person I've met who owned a gun had at least 4.

peoples mental health detiriorates along time for alot of differente reasons. There is no saying what can drive someone crazy or a bit over the edge. Like he said there needs to be intelligent gun laws.
2021-06-14 23:42
Considering the US homicide rate to be @ 6.1 / 100k and their firearm homicide rate to be @ 4.63 / 100k. Reducing the amount of firearms an individual holds would greatly reduce the homicide rates long term.
2021-06-14 23:15

I'm not arguing against reducing firearms, or sensible gun legislation. I'm arguing that it's not as simple as "take all the guns kekw!" Buying guns in the US is too easy. There's no dispute there. But also there are plenty of gun homicides that occur disproportionately by race and through the use of illegal weapons. It's not as simple as outlawing legal guns, no matter what anyone says. With that said, the ease of purchasing legal firearms in America is absurd. Why the right seems to argue for less restrictions absolutely baffles me.
2021-06-14 23:28

You are correct and Im not against taking away all guns either. Im pro gun when it comes to hunting and recreation. As for illegal and legal guns. Alot of the mass shootings are done with legal guns and besides all illegal guns were once in a point of their lifetime legal. Having fewer guns flowing around would also reduce the number of illegal guns in the long run and would be harder (but ofc not impossible) for criminals to get one.
2021-06-15 07:53
2 replies
Obviously intelligent gun reform can help reduce mass shootings through legal means, but the sad truth is mass shootings make up only a small part of the gun violence in the US. I'm not one of those people who goes on about "but then criminals have all the power" since I think it's a stupid argument. Still, both legal and illegal firearms are an issue here, but the broader scope is social and cultural in nature, unfortunately.

This expands way beyond mental health and very far into sociological culture norms. The issue is the topics aren't on the table for discussion, because being politically correct is more important than having truthful discourse.

it's mental health, idiotic gun control laws, general racism, poor education, systemic racism/inequality since the very beginning causing way more poverty than would naturally occur in a society like ours. lots of factors that are hardly being dealt with.
2021-06-15 20:45
1 reply
It's a lot more than these things. I won't get into it: having an honest conversation about the factors is very problematic. Some of what you said is true, some is a blame tactic and some plays less of a role than we talk about. For instance, when it comes to mental health most people with these issues are more likely to hurt themselves than others. Fixing the underlying problems is not realistic in a short term, so sensible gun laws are a first step.

Just think, in the 80's and 90's the vast majority of people in america had never seen a gun, never heard a gun shoot in person, didnt really even think about guns. NRA --------- Until the 1970s, the NRA was nonpartisan. Previously, the NRA mainly focused on sportsmen, hunters, and target shooters, and downplayed gun control issues. During the 1970s, it became increasingly aligned with the Republican Party. After 1977, the organization expanded its membership by focusing heavily on political issues and forming coalitions with conservative politicians. Most of these are Republicans. At the 1991 national convention, Knox's supporters were elected to the board and named staff lobbyist Wayne LaPierre as the executive vice president With a goal to weaken the GCA, Knox's ILA successfully lobbied Congress to pass the Firearm Owners Protection Act (FOPA) of 1986 and worked to reduce the powers of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). In 1982, Knox was ousted as director of the ILA, but began mobilizing outside the NRA framework and continued to promote opposition to gun control laws. In 1994, the NRA unsuccessfully opposed the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB), but successfully lobbied for the ban's 2004 expiration. Heston was elected president in 1998 and became a highly visible spokesman for the organization. In an effort to improve the NRA's image, Heston presented himself as the voice of reason in contrast to Knox. ---- Good stuff NRA and republicans, you made a bunch of money but now this...

what a statement bro. I guess you got the divine energy because you provided no argument, are you empowered by god and just have divine facts? I would estimate that 2.5 to 3 out of 4 people had never held, shot, or experienced gun fire outside of their imagination and tv. You had some target shooting in boy scouts with rifles and shot guns. And you had people in families with gun people. The rest just knew guns existed, but they were not part of their lives ever. Then republicans went on a mission to make guns part of everyone's daily lives.

Look at every single graph and line it up with the NRA facts from above. They are spikes correlating with every NRA legislative priority. You cant make this stuff up, NRA, guna ownership, and gun violence are inextricably linked. i should say gun sales, because of how adept people are at string selling and after market distribution.
2021-06-14 22:51
You realize the demographics you're talking about include people who lived through: WW2 (maybe even WW1), the Korean War and Vietnam. A lot of Americans had been exposed to guns. Without knowing the details intimately (would need to fully research) I'd also posit that organized crime at the start of the 20th Century was pretty bad in regards to gun violence (though it was all forms, really).

I think your assumptions about life in the 80's and 90's is off but I don't have data to back up my opinion. On the other hand, I do think the NRA is very problematic (and I thoroughly support the 2nd amendment). But the NRA doesn't care about logic or making sense, they simply oppose everything that might limit access to anyone getting any gun. The way they act politically indicates they believe "Any gun for any person at any time in any place". It's insanity. For example, here in Texas, they're debating a bill that make it no longer required to take a minimal amount of training before owning a handgun. That's just stupid! You would never let someone on the road who didn't have training and demonstrated they could drive, so why in the world would anyone think it's a good idea to let people get a handgun without safety training?!? And again, I'm all for people's right to bare arms but stuff like that is just laughably stupid.

I'm for gun possession, I'm just baffled by the politically fueled mass shootings and murders. I thought we were better than this.

The country has been moving to extremes, politically, for decades. I agree with you that we should be better, but to say I'm surprised to see it happen would make me a liar. The last 4 years taught me a lot about American mentality: people would rather kill each other because they disagree rather than just talk it through.

i'd do it too if a 2bedroom house was $400k, + look at the american society nothing like europeans they live in their own bubble think of it like this : u got a family, kids, mortgage, bills etc , let's say a misfortune hits you idk u lose your job, u get in an accident and can't produce money or kid/wife it's sick etc , you lose everything in a few months ofc you'll do a shoot out

2 bedroom $400k houses only exist in very specific areas. Home ownership has become much more restrictive, but it's not that bad (yet). The issue is wage increases have slowed while cost of ownership hasn't. Most people in the US, however, buy outside of their means, it's social and cultural irresponsibility. But people losing everything isn't the reason for most of these shootings. Gang violence and mental health/bullying are the 2 major driving factors.
2021-06-14 22:49
People with a 400k house, wife, and kids aren’t the ones doing mass shootings The vast majority is gang members in poverty-stricken inner cities
2021-06-15 00:10
so we should do even more mass shootings in switzerland? a 2 bedroom house is easily 600k-900k. i really dont get your point there

I think he is talking about the missing social and health security standards in the US compared to europe. As in: when you get injured badly/terminally ill or just some bad luck, you can quickly fall into a hole that you cant really get out of, especially because of the reliance on debt within American cociety.
2021-06-15 10:51
what #173 said, americans live on debt, one wrong turn and you're not coming back easily financially/socially

All the shooters are probably COD players and need aim assist. the real mfkers actually killing are the counter-strike players.

Would've happened with him in office too: people have been quarantined for a year. You start having large social gatherings with people who have been disgruntled for a year and you get a lot of problems.

Putting memes aside the issue in burgerville is not guns but over medication and fatherless homes. Near every shooting is done by someone with previously diagnosed mental illness and/or from a broken home.

There are like 330 million people yet to die, so it's fine. Everything's fine! There's a price to owning guns.
2021-06-15 20:28
our gun laws are retarded. any fucking moron can own a gun, and that's why we have so many shootings. poverty makes it worse, too.
