Football question

Why is the timer going on when the game is not played? Who invented this stupid system where lost time is played as extra overtime as not that accurate estimation and not just cut the timer when the game is clearly on break for injury etc? And in overtime the timer is going when the game is on break like wtf so braindead sport! Also Var and offside rule is disgusting and stupid as fuck

> Also Var and offside rule is disgusting and stupid as fuck VAR is the best thing that could happen to football

Yeah ima hard disagree in that one. Games being slow is already a problem. And there is constantly questionable decisions. In this tournament it's been pretty good though

The thing that bothers me the most is that players from the leading team always waste so much time in the last minutes of the game. That's so annoying.

Yeah it's not at all entertaining. Always remember finding it frustrating when I played . The refs could be more strict about speeding up play. Probably something better they could do but I'm not sure
2021-06-17 12:38
constantly? There are like 1-2 VAR checks at most each match

it still creates a sense of uncertainty and completely disrupts the flow of the game. i understand the reason behind it to make it as fair as possible but it also takes away a little bit of that drama that makes football so legendary. either way, it has be majorly improved to have it's place in modern football (imo).

I more meant in premier league games, in both the euros and the world cup that hasn't really been an issue

I think they shouldn’t be allowed to use geometrical tools in deciding if a goal is an offside. If human eye can’t see an offside from a replay video, then surely it didn’t affect outcome of the play. In other words, even if micro offside didn’t happen, a goal would have been made.

The timer is going when not playing, because they have time limits duo to it being TV. They can at last, offer 5 mins if the game was delayed but that's maxium.

If they would stop the timer, playtime would be cut down to 30 mins a half. Doesnt really matter,

Sorry i said it kinda badly i meant when Var decides if the rule is broken by few centimeters and the goal is cancelled it really sucks because it makes the sport more boring than it already is for most viewers. When you dont know if you can celebrate or if the goal is cancelled by some bullshit micro mistake

its because players feel comfort when they want to score goal like they cant stop atack most likely because fans want to see goals if someone about to score goal game wont be stopped

"offside is disgusting and stupid as fuck" welp, you have no idea about football, you never played football, you lack the ability to think critically, you make dumb threads on hltv. Can't help you.

Ok I take it back because there are rules for a reason but just from a perspective of average viewer having goals cancelled sucks

That why they changed the rules to allow for the play to finish and a scoring attempt to happen before calling offside. Worse when a player is in a scoring position and everything is getting exciting only to have the flag stop all play. That being said its not great when goal is cancelled but the rule is necessary so

I agree the timer never gets stopped and that would be fine... except the refs don't add on extra time for time wasting. Like let's say there is 4 added minutes and the winning team wastes 2 mins. The ref should let the game play on 2 mins more but they usually don't bother and just end it after like a ½ min more

Yeah exactly, i dont know if u are trying to bait me, but you are complety right. They waste so much time when they are winning. Also goalkeepers when the ball goes out of bounds. After var i think this should be the next major change. Also penalties, in my opinion they are very hard to stop, a penalty should not continue after the GK stops it.
2021-06-18 10:29
The time is stopped for longer breaks in the game? You want to stop the time everytime the ball goes out of play or a foul has been made?

why not? Ice hockey does it like that (uses stop clock). Plus ice-hockey players are not such a cry babies like football players. Of course the playing time would not be 2x45min (running clock) if the clock is stopped, but something like 2x30min or 2x35min (stop clock). The net result would be the same "effective play time".
2021-06-17 14:20
They’re not really expected to play football for the full 90 mins. They play for about 2/3 of the time, a while ago there was talk about playing games for 60 mins and pausing the clock as you suggest but nothing changed.

3x 20 min and the clock running only when the game is played would be great

Why is offside disgusting? They have that in hockey too?
2021-06-17 14:26
football-observatory.com/Effective-playi.. actual playtime around %50-60 avg. it correspend to 45-55~ minutes, still more actual playtime than basketball. Without offside, this game would be sh1tfest, if there was no offside rule, the forward players would stay in penalty area and defenders must have hold him and the length between players would be longer and they would have to run more and more, so they aren't robot and the football field too long for it. if the football field length was like basketball field then it would be logical otherwise would be hell. sorry for the grammar :D
