Legendary teams that fell from dominance
Twistzz |
Denmark Ju1cek
1. Fnatic: Reached a new low ever since olof, flusha, etc left the team. I remember watching them on 2015 when they we're dominating with olof, jw, flusha, pronax and krimz. The last 3 months, they've been annihilated by teams winning only 3/16 of their matches, they're doing worse than faze since they didn't lose to top teams, they've lost to a lot of teams already (especially fiend in sweet spring). Jw is washed, so as krimz, and golden. Jackinho is just doing average keeping his rtings above 1 for the past 3 months and brollan just wants to escape from fnatic. They need a new set of lineup since this isn't working anymore and some swedish players are available for taking like nawwk who could replace jw. This lineup won't work anymore, if fnatic wants to improve then they'll have to change, maybe they'll be better at lan but i doubt it to be honest. 2. MIBR/SK/LG They start falling ever since fnx was kicked out, they didn't get a 3rd major, they couldn't reach finals in the krakow major leaving immortals to fight against gambit. They couldn't reach top 1 ever since they've moved to mibr and the whole core members are separated. This new mibr is failing already and couldn't reach the top 20 with their current lineup, it's but a tiny fragment of the glory they once had. Furia is the new top Brazilian team now and they've been doing fine lately but we'll see honda in action soon. 3. cloud9 We know about this already, stewie and tarik left for sk and things fall apart with skadoodle retiring. They failed right after the boston major, when i've heard about this new lineup with alex and es3tag i was looking forward to it but things fall apart way faster than anyone could imagine. cloud9 was willing to spend a huge amount of money just to succeed but they failed instead, this is rare coming from c9 since they usually just spend on young and unproven talents and some worked. cloud9 won't be going back up soon, not now for the least. 4. Faze Almost won the boston major, sustained top 10 ranking for quite a respectable amount of time (2 or 3 years) Things went down until NiKo pulled the plug and gave up. When i've heard of twistzz joining i was exited (i find him as a suitable replacement for NiKo), they've beaten liquid twice and winning 10 rounds or more with navi 3 times. It's a good start for them, until karrigan joined and people started to cheer for faze and changing flairs and so was i part of them, esl pro league came a long and i gave em a pass since it's only been 2 months and they need time, they've kept on losing even to sprout. Blast spring finals came and i had hope when olof returned but it all shattered in one swoop, sure they've kept up a fight with them but they've kept on losing the 3rd map. I have no hope for them now...... unless they win gamers without borders 5. Astralis Losing quite alot already, the once dominant 4 time major winning team fell when online came, they've kept up until 2021 and device moved to nip (which i'm pretty sure shocked everyone), gla1ve has personal things to do like his new child, xyp is no longer the minister we know his as, dupreeh and magisk are doing fine and bubzkji is just average for me. Maybe they'll do better on lan and maybe they won't, getting an awper is an issue for them since giving dupreeh awp is a waste of talent. I hope they do better on lan. Honorable mentions: Gambit: would have been here if it was 2020 Liquid: Era has passed and their chance to win a major sailed. Shouldn't have taken that break. Vitality: They're doing fine right now, but they're past their prime. they could be better Open for opinions, don't expect me to give tldr

still managed to keep a lineup of legends and players who were absolute gods in their prime markeloff, starix, zeus, ceh9, edward, flamie, seized, guardian, s1mple and now electronic, perfecto, boombl4, b1t navi never seem to fail in making a top 5 roster
2021-06-22 18:46
But they couldn't win against gambit which is another team the zeus used to led. Hobbit probably took an example from him.

yes while they have had just a few years of being the n1 team in the world that too in 1.6 they have always been in the discussion of "best team in the world" no matter which year, which lineup this is pretty amazing and props to navi org for keeping solid lineups for more than a decade

+1 Navi is a very important organization in counter strike and esports in general, too bad they haven't won any major in csgo, because they deserve it
2021-06-22 18:53
Navi is one of those teams that stick to their current roster without any change in years, like astralis. s1mple deserves a major but he's either cursed or other teams won't let him get one.

Virtus.plow boston major is first major where they did not qualify to 1/8 - after that tournament they dominance has ended and Old NIP - that was my favourite forgein team, but without Adam, get right, forest they are not the same team Immortals - one of the greatest teams that i've seen in action, dunno why they felt down

look at the teams that are mentioned, imo legendary teams = teams with era
2021-06-22 19:12
LDLC/Envy not really dominant in a sense that they were always top1/2/3 in the nip/fnatic eras, but after adding Sixer and Devil it all went really downhill
2021-06-22 18:50

Before the major they took like a 2 month or more break.

They did, liquid won alot because of it but when they came back they got beaten by liquid until it's liquid's turn to take a break.

when liquid took break astralis did the same because it was player break dictated by the player union...
2021-06-22 19:16

nonononono, i think astralis took the break first then liquid, got any sources? Edit: From what i've found it goes like this, Astralis took a break after katowice major leaving liquid to win sydney and dallas as their first 2 grand slam wins then astralis returned in june 10 or so and liquid beaten them after astralis' return which they've won cologne, pro league season 9 then after they've won the grand slam, liquid went to win 2 more tournaments (iem chicago and blast los angles) then they went on a break around 22th of july , They've returned after 2 months which is september (before the berlin major that astralis won)

to be fair, fnatic has been the most consistently good team
2021-06-22 18:53
Akuma
2021-06-22 18:54
Since everyone asked for it then i'll put vp, nip and envy Nip: most 2015 teams couldn't hold their title till now, like any other "used to be good player". 87-0 nip members are either on dignitas or retired. They had their unbeaten streak holding on as their legacy. Envy: Ancestors of G2 esports, the major winning members are shattered with apex being the only one doing better than the rest. The french scene are know to be full of rage and personal problems, and i wouldn't find it a surprise if french teams starts to fall apart Virtus pro: I remember pasha, snax, etc being polish barbarians bashing through teams and as they grow older, they start to fall. Members like byali and snax are still around while pasha and the rest retired to their own paths.

these are way better. imo you overrated teams that fluked majors. C9 was a top5ish team that had a dark horse run. Gambit was a decentish team but they had the biggest fluke runs. a dead fnatic, device choke, and immortals for a major. Also, AST should be number 1. They went from top 1 for a good year or two to seemingly a dead team sooner than later with most contracts ending in 6 months. They are like a top 15 level team right now
2021-06-22 18:57

1. Who cares if c9 fluked a major, they won na's first major fair and square 2. We haven't seen the end of astralis so that's why their on the bottom. I doubt that the members will leave astralis (except gla1ve, he's got a family to take care of) 3. Gambit at that time did what navi couldn't, win a major for cis region, fluke or not they still won it and i don't care if it was a fluke, c9 and gambit won the major and there's no changing that.

yes but winning a major doesnt mean you become legendary. C9 sure they were the best NA team fighting EU teams and having great results over like 4 years time, but Gambit only had a few good finishes + major which I dont think qualifies them as legendary. They were a good team that peaked at the right time, but not legendary. Zeus, h0bbit, and adren may be considered legendary but that lineup really isnt imo.

Cloud9's "dominance" is kinda debatable. They did win the major, and were a Top5 team once upon a time, but they were never really 'dominant', to be fair. In addition, the roater broke down just a few months after winning the major. So, if there could have been a good future for that roater, we'd never know. I would also mention Navi 2010 in this thread. The only team to win 3 CS majors in 1 year, truckloads of tournaments left and right, etc, heavily fell from that level of dominance in CSGo, and haven't yet won a major.
