is it enough in portugal? to live off of?
2021-06-25 09:31
4 replies
i mean its enough to survive... we have the 4th biggest price on gas in Europe, we have big taxes, our minimum wage is like 600 +/-... You can survive yes, but you can't go to a restaurant cause 30/40€ is a big expense in the month... IDK how it is to live with such low wage cause I only worked as a cashier on a year break from college tho, but I imagine that is hard

It does seem like a tough life!
2021-06-26 10:55
if u thinks that's low, you should know that in the food retail sector lidl is one of the beste paying employee. and yeah, like norbas said, it's enought to survive, and for me (a university student at the time) it was like heaven to get around 600 euros per month xd

Lower living cost tho. It's not like you earn 15 EUR/hour in Sweden and it's 5 times better than yours 3 EUR It's still (maybe much) better but salary/living costs ratio is not as high

im not mad that you were earning more than my mother :D:D:D, im mad that you didnt tell the full truth and these guys here actually believes that you have been paid 6 euro per hour for a cashier ONLY. Now that you tell that it was not the only cashier thingy that you were doing, it makes more sense that you are able to earn 6euro per hour, but STILL i dont believe 100%, because i know what are the standart in our country. But its posible that u were making these amount of earning..

First job ever was paiting metal fence and gate, the day after I had to paint a balcony to the same person. I got paid like 100 euro for 2 days work. Around 8 hours total. I was like 15yo. First legal job - I was working in labor office (I was looking for a job for other people, taking care of their documents etc). I was making like 900 euro/month which was pretty good for Polish standard back then. I quit after 6 months cuz it wasn't enough for me. I also had some ways to make money when I was 10yo cuz my parents couldn't afford to buy me nice football shoes but it wasn't really a job.

Paperboy for a local super market. Payment was horrible. It was 30€ per tour (around 4-5 hours) and I had to split with my best friend. So it was basically 15 / 4 = 3,75€ per hour. Not that much and very hard work, but back then (I was 13, 14 years old) we were kings with 15€ per week.

I was 13 and it paid $6.50 AUD/hour, this was around 24 years ago. *Edit: actually at 12 I collected money for my local newsagent, just door knocking people who have their paper delivered for their fee but that only paid between $15-$40 (per month or fortnight I can't remember).

delivering brochures/advertisement in the neighbourhood. i was about 12-15 and got about 4-8€/hr it was counted by the amount of brochures/houses, so about 400 brochures to deliver and the faster i am the more i get per hour. edit: so with about 5 hours work each weekend it's about 130-180 a month

Worked at a go kart centre as someone who gets customers into the correct karts and is responsible for starting, process, ending the races and taking care of the karts itself. It was a great job during school time, I learned responsibility, teamwork and how to do tasks efficiently. It paid like 9-10€/hour so when working twice a week for 5 hours, I got like 400€ per month which was pretty good besides school. Also we always worked with 1 or 2 others, so I had a great time working a nice job with my best mates and being paid well.

if you count the jobs you can get as soon as you hit 15 so you dont have to wait untill you are adult mine was KFC i had like 70-85crowns (idc its almost 10 yrs ago) which is like 4bucks per hour :D but as a student you dont have to pay taxes so at least it was "clean" 4 bucks now as an adult im still on school (College) so i cannot have full time job aswell but as those adult part time jobs i have around 150crowns which is something like 7 bucks so almost doubled my hour pay since 15 XD (hopefully after school i will hit something around 200-250 crowns which is around 9,5$ - 12$ that would be nice

6.50 / 7ish I think + tips. I worked as dish washer in a pretty big, almost michelin star, restaurant where the tips were evenly distributed among the staff. Not just the people in the front, but also the chefs and folk like me). Shit job btw, 0/8 wouldn't recommend

delivering food for resturaunt, first and only job and that one lasted 3 days.. roughly 25-30$ a day (student job), overall I've got no issues with driving and that stuff, but people were ordering and didn't tell me location where to deliver (they did, but when I got there they were not there or go someone else etc) and after 3 days I got fired because I was "too slow" with deliveries.. tbh I don't miss it, giving me multiple locations at same time first day and first delivery on the job.. give me a break

I dont know if this counts as a job, but I recently had some math lessons for one of my cousins because she had a big exam this year (it was actually today). Im happy with how much I got paid as Im only 15. With this I found out teaching is fun but since teachers have really low salaries in my country I never had the intention to pursue in that direction

idk about the low salaries man i have a relative that teaches civic education(or however it's translated) and she has like 5-10 classes a week and gets paid 700euros, i think that's a complete steal considering they get paid fully for the summer vacation too . and if you are a rather good math/english/informatics teacher you can give mediations which cost like 10euros/student for 2 hours(they usually do 3-5 students at once) i think teachers don't have it as bad as it seems

But HVAC requires a license? I don't think 18yo can get without a college with an HVAC specialty and passing an exam.

In the early 2000s I've made a local social network / file-sharing website and it became wildly popular with almost 600k registered users (our city had 1.2mil population), more than any other local resource or newspaper. So 13yo me was one of the most influential persons in the city at that time and I got hundreds of thousands of dollars from an advertisement of local companies (it was before Google Ads and other crap ad networks, people usually paid money directly to site owners back in the days). In the lifespan of this website (around 5 years, before national social networks like MySpace and Facebook, took over the world), I earned around $400k. I guess it was my first job.
