What games are you looking forward to? *Part 2*
 |
United Kingdom Jonty04l32
Greetings, HLTV users! It's another awesome year of gaming and there is a ton of future games being released that look absolutely incredible. :) What games are you most looking forward to being released and are looking forward to playing the most? For me, it's:- - Hollow Knight: Silksong <-- Yes, still waiting... No official release date has been leaked yet. - The Binding of Isaac: Repentance for console releases <-- The DLC is released but not for consoles. - Hades console release <-- Amazing rogue-like finally getting a console preorder. - Psychonauts 2 <-- Doublefine and Tim Schafer classic finally getting a sequel after 16 years (discounting the VR release in 2017) - Diablo II Remake and Remaster <-- I sank thousands of hours into Diablo 2, I am so hyped for this... - Back 4 Blood - From developers who worked on Left 4 Dead, the title and gameplay is reminiscent of an unofficial sequel to the game. The bar for indie developers and AAA developers is still at the highest it has ever been, the upcoming games of 2021 look really good and I'm super impressed with it. ^^ Part one here: hltv.org/forums/threads/2357971/what-gam.. Have a good day. :)

none... these companies dont know how to make good games anymore. Just copy and paste titles as usual

Which companies are you referring to? I take it you're referring to games with guaranteed yearly releases like Call of Duty, FIFA and the like? AAA development companies like Activision, Ubisoft and EA need to make money somehow, even if it is scummy.

With Assassin's Creed, it's tricky... I've played practically all of them-- they are great games but do get laborious after a while because it is just the same game in a different setting. Overrated? Absolutely. Bad games? Technically, not really... The development that goes into them is masterclass, I highly recommend watching DidYouKnowGaming's videos on Assassin's Creed's videos on YouTube.

It's not hard to make a technically impressive game when you've already layed the foundations imo. That's why Assassin's Creed is a yearly franchise but has never really had a "bad game" in the true sense. Same thing applies for Far Cry, they really nailed it with 3 and then tried to capture that magic but the charm wasn't there. Even if they're not "bad" they're lazy, and I think from a triple A studio that might as well be the same thing. At least sometimes a poorly made game will still have some unique ideas that make it a blast to play.

I don't think the Ubisoft are lazy at all but you are right in that it is essentially the same tried and tested formula, throw it at the wall, change the setting and see what sticks. In my opinion, the only company able to successfully get away with rehashing content is Nintendo with the Super Mario, Pokemon and The Legend of Zelda franchises. Yes it is the same formula but it is different enough and unique enough to be enjoyable overall.

I think Nintendo does the opposite of what companies like Ubisoft do. They take the same base aesthetic and characters and massively overhaul gameplay and mechanics. The variance in the Legend of Zelda franchise is immense, and the 3D Mario games are all vastly different (except maybe galaxy 1 and 2, but that's only 2 iterations with very similar mechanics). Sure Nintendo pump out some mediocre games (like many of the Mario sports titles), but those aren't meant to be the core of the franchise and that doesn't really affect the quality of the main games. Ubisoft (along with many other publishers) on the other hand put a new coat of paint on roughly the same game, and imo it's probably much easier to model Paris on a computer than it is to develop an engaging and unique gameplay mechanic, as crazy as that sounds. Maybe it's not lazy, but it's uninspired, and I think that's led to a lot of the frustration with them as a publisher. Personally I respect developers like 343 a lot more, even if Halo 4 and 5 were just okay. They tried something different, it didn't pan out how they wanted, and now they're returning to the roots of the franchise while also restructuring the core gameplay loop with Halo Infnite. They also don't feel compelled to release a new game every 1-2 years, so there's that.

Fair points made and I do agree with you, it's a shame most AAA developed games are cookie cutter in that regard but in all honesty, I think that also somewhat improves the indie development scene even further. EDIT: Typographical error.

Yeah, she made me a gamer. xD I was born into gaming, I'm lucky that my Mother was a big gamer and unlike the traditional relationship of "stay off computers until dinner", I was more or less allowed to be on the computer as much as possible provided I did my chores and obviously there was a cut-off that I never listened to as a kid. Unfortunately this was good ammunition to use as punishment for if the console was taken off me. :P Then when I got my first PC, I lived in my room to game 24/7.

Sounds awesome! Good parenting can really have many different ways of going about things... I grew up with my grandparents so there was not really any understanding of computers/consoles. But I remember we always used to carry our PC's and Monitors through the village to a buddys house on weekend nights to play.

Playing some ghetto African-American in a MAFIA game is just a mockery to the MAFIA franchise, so I'm boycotting these foolish games filled with political statements. I just want to play a decent computer game with a compelling story. Like BioShock Infinite - fantastic story. I tried Watch Dogs, I didn't like the gameplay. Just Cause looks like its too much over-the-top for me. Yeah I know - im very picky. I'll give Red Dead Redemption 2 some time during the summer, looks decent

+1 to Bioshock Infinite, amazing game with an amazing story, which is expected of Bioshock if you only count the Ken Levine titles. Watch Dogs was probably the most overhyped game of its respective year but failed to live up to expectations, the sequels were apparently very good, though. RDR and RDR" are great games - definitely recommend playing them, it's by Rockstar themselves. ;)
2021-06-30 15:50
you should give sleeping dogs a try if you're looking for something similar to gta. Granted its a bit dated but It has a fun open world, combat better than gta, driving and a decent story on top of it.

Well I have a gaming laptop, an Xbox One and a PS4 to usually play with and at the moment I have a lot of spare time because I don't work, so as long as I am careful with money I should be able to play the games I want. :) I do own Steam games but I usually play more console than PC even though I do play both. Apart from a few titles, the majority of games I own is console based, hard-disk and digital copies. I also watch Let's Plays and get involved with gaming facts, knowledge, trivia, DidYouKnowGaming/VGFacts, etc... So even if I haven't played the game, I know about the game. :D I love gaming quizzes, etc... So I like to think I have fairly great gaming general knowledge. ^^ With certain games on Xbox, provided you pay for the ultimate subscription that comes with game pass, most of the released games you don't have to pay for, they will go straight to game pass. At the moment, Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance is a game that went straight to game pass on release and it's not bad. ;)

"wow ur gamer but owning both xbox and ps4 weird" At one stage, my family had all of the mainstream consoles, I was never really into the whole "console wars" and even now the console wars died years ago, it's just about the business. I remain unbiased when it comes to consoles but I definitely played more Playstation than Xbox, I have an Xbox One now but my Brother had the original Xbox and then the 360... As for Nintendo, mostly dominated my childhood but one of my favourites was definitely the Gamecube before my Mother bought the Wii/Wii U (which wasn't very good). Sega, I didn't really like the Dreamcast my Mother owned but the Megadrive was awesome. "instead of that i would bought some nike hoodie lul" Hoodies are comfy but I sweat like crazy in them due to the heat. :(

Good thread. I don’t remember enjoying hollow knight but this game was okay, made me rage a lot and google how to beat bosses, might give it another try someday. Rest of the games you listed I have no idea, never heard about them. I’m looking forward forza horizon 5, stalker 2, battlefield and dying light 2 but it will probably flop. Can you recommend me some pc indie games ? I only played big triple a titles like far cry, assassin and so on, not really familiar with small games and you seem to know a lot about them. Thank you. :) "I don’t remember enjoying hollow knight but this game was okay, made me rage a lot and google how to beat bosses, might give it another try someday." Yeah, Hollow Knight is definitely not for those who enjoy games casually but the difficulty progression and pacing in Hollow Knight was absolutely phenomenal... Yes, you knew you were in for a hard game but it wasn't going to suck your soul right out of the gate, it gradually got very, very difficult and the absolute hardest part of the game is the endgame during the Godmaster DLC. "Rest of the games you listed I have no idea, never heard about them. I’m looking forward forza horizon 5, stalker 2, battlefield and dying light 2 but it will probably flop" Well I missed a lot out and only listed what I could remember and I feel for thread longevity, it is actually better that way as I can then spark interesting discussions from forgetting about certain games that others are excited to play. ^^ For example, S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is one of those very games that I forgot and I loved the first game, it was great fun. ^^ Forza games are always fun and I don't expect to be disappointed there; Battlefield games, I know exactly what to expect from them and I will most likely pick it up because I play online shooters with my friends; Dying Light 2 is also on my list of games I am looking forward to playing - the first game was great fun and it is definitely what Dead Island should've been despite the fact Dead Island was fun in a completely different way entirely. ^^ PC indie games? Certainly, what genre are you more towards playing, friend?

I will list games that are available on PC to play right now as opposed to PC exclusives for you despite these games being practically available on every platform. :) Rogue-likes are usually hard with progression, so I will try to list as many of those as possible alongside other more challenging indie games. For higher difficulty games:- - Rogue-likes: Slay the Spire (deck-building), BPM/Bullets Per Minute (Shooter), pretty much anything from Supergiant games: Hades (hack 'n' slash), Bastion, Transistor, Pyre; The Binding of Isaac (shooter/horror), Enter the Gungeon (shooter), FTL (space simulation), Darkest Dungeon (RPG) - Puzzle/Strategy: The Witness, Papers Please - Platformer: Cuphead (shooter), Shovel Knight (hack 'n' slash/8BIT), Dead Cells (hack 'n' slash/rogue-like), Sundered (hack 'n' slash/rogue-like/horror), Super Meat Boy, Celeste For lower difficulty games:- - RPG: Undertale, Deltarune - First-person exploration: The Stanley Parable, Gone Home, What Remains of Edith Finch, Superliminal (puzzle/horror) - Puzzle/Strategy: Braid - Shooter: Superhot - Simulation: Stardew Valley, Terraria To avoid post length, I will leave it at this and post more in another post for you. :)

Jonty have you tried Risk of Rain 2 before? It is a really nice rogue-like with great progression and a really welcoming and rewarding gameplay loop. I would recommend it to any fans of the genre

Yeah, AAA developed games are stupidly expensive, especially nowadays when there is collectors editions and super deluxe editions. As for the Quake reboot, always hyped about that but we need more information on it.

It was a really good update and I'm glad they made the Nether more of a challenge now. I'm still slightly irked that we never got the sky update. xD Yes, we got the end and it's official biome name is "sky" but not like it was originally planned. The "Aether mod" was more like the sky update Minecraft was originally going to have but it was removed and instead we got the Nether realm and the End realm.

no end was some type "dream" but they changed it to end later imo new dimension is unnecessary in current game development but i think they need to add more biomes more animals and make the game more realistic also they should stop with animal abuse bs which preventing them to add hostile real life mobs(because of cookie parrot scandal) everyone wanted sharks in oceans

It's a sensitive subject in other parts of the world, it's the same reason they don't have seals in the game, to prevent seal clubbing, etc... They are just covering themselves so as to not get into any silly legal troubles, as the press love to bash on video games to this day. As a more extreme example: There are those out there that still believe playing violent video games that have violence as a gameplay mechanic will turn you into a murderer and criminals have made that defence before just to cover there own arse. I get what you mean though, overall it is just a video game, it shouldn't matter but yet it does... Context is extremely important when talking about censorship in video games.

Exactly my point and GTA hold the record for being sued the most by the government anyway. They definitely know how to push the boundaries of any video game out there. xD Fun fact: It was two games that gave us the ESRB/PEGI rating system for video games to begin with and GTA was not one of those games, it was way earlier. Those games were: Night Trap and the original Mortal Kombat.

Idk where you watched it but the 1.17 update looks amazing. they will make the height limit to 320, and you can go until -64 now. they will add the actual caves, cliffs and the height changer + all the mobs/biomes in the part 2 of the update, they explained it in their official youtube channel

That fifth pantheon is still one of the most satisfying things I've done in a singleplayer video game. It's also nice when a game has all these extra challenges like killing the white defender 5x or zote 10x (which I still haven't done). It's also one of the few times I felt I got way too much content for the pricetag. I ended up buying one of those physical collector's editions.

I absolutely agree, Hollow Knight has so much replay-ability, it is insane how well they made it. :D Definitely did not kill The Mighty Zote 10x (Think I got to about 6 or 7...) to get the gold Zote statue but I did defeat White Defender 5x to light up the statues. Granted, I had no idea it even existed until I saw a video on YouTube explaining the hidden secrets to Hollow Knight. I completed the game and gotten a very high percentage (100 and something I think) so I thought I would've found them all and then ground that doesn't even shake when walking over it apparently houses the White Defender... :/

Great games here. :D Forza is always good fun, so I too am looking forward to see how 5 will fair. Fingers crossed it retains the awesome free-roaming from the fourth instalment. :D CoD games are hit and miss with pretty low expectations due to the cookie cutter norm of a military-based shooter but I will most likely buy it anyway. :D When it comes to online FPS games, it doesn't really get anymore mainstream than Call of Duty, so I will probably get into the online aspect when the new one is released. ^^ Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is something I am VERY looking forward to, I'm a big Borderlands fan myself, I've played and completed them all quite religiously. ^^ Would be interesting to see where they take this, though I imagine it is a standalone variant of Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep DLC from the second game, except this time it looks like a full version of Bunkers and Badasses, as opposed to the one session we played. xD

They delayed it for two years when the original release trailer was back in 2019, so fingers crossed we will see it this year at least. ^^ I play Binding of Isaac on PS4, so eagerly awaiting for the release of Repentance for Playstation, as they said it will be released on PC first and then consoles. Halo: Infinite does look really good and I think they want to go into the more non-linear aspect of Halo, which would actually be incredible with Halo's engine.

To be fair, Elden Ring is on everybody's wait list nowadays, it's From Software's newest title. ^^ GTA 6 we probably won't see anytime soon, I think the rumour was 2026 or something daft like that, xD With CS:GO 2/Source 2, I am not expecting anything anytime, to be honest... If it gets made, it gets made but I'm not having any hopes about it due to the constant delay of if it will ever be made. I love MMORPG's but I really don't have the time invested to be able to play them. xD WoW, Rift, I played TERA and Bless Unleashed and I think I tried AEON online at one stage also -- I've dabbled, the most time I've put into any will most likely be Guild Wars 2, though. :D

Hmm, first I need to upgrade my PC, it's dead old and unable to carry anything. There's a couple of fan made mods for HL2 that I'm waiting for, they're available on Steam, so at the moment that are the only two products I'm waiting for!

Which fan mods, friend? There have been loads of absolutely fantastic fan-made mods for Half-Life and Half-Life 2, I watch a YouTuber called "Jolly Wangcore" play them to comedic effect. xD

"Quantum Paradox" and "Obsidian Conflict", it's a rare scene that a fan made mod being added to the Steam library itself, considering how many of them out there, only a few make it there. It should be worth it. Sadly neither of them is out and the date of release is unknown.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention then, friend. xD I'll have to load up the old Half-Life 2 to play these. :D As for fan-mods being added to the Steam Marketplace, I know what you mean... There was one made for Portal that was absolutely phenomenal, it was called "Portal Stories Mel" and it was a sort of side-story alongside Chel from the original Portal games.

It just means they are equipped to making the game with several dev kits and want to release the game on multi-platforms as opposed to exclusive platforms. I imagine it will still be the same game regardless but obviously PC players will have improved performance overall, which means the PC versions will obviously be separate in release to the consoles, as the options will be vastly difficult. Many games have done this before to success. :D

Ah, my apologies. xD Both games had runes but were used very differently. Runes in Diablo II were more or less valuable socket fodder, trying to get that indestructible rune so you could equip ethereal gear. ^^ In 3, they were just skill bonuses that added modifications. 3 is good but if you want to play a game reminiscent of Diablo II, play Grim Dawn or Path of Exile.

It'll definitely be worth it but I don't think we will see it anytime soon.

Very true. :D I think the estimate release date for GTA 6 was something daft like like 2026 or something similarly daft. xD

Silksong, Metroid Dread, Elden Ring, God of War: Ragnarok, BOTW2 2022 is gonna be fucking stacked, with the exception of Dread and possibly Silksong, though that may just be wishful thinking

+1 for Metroid Dread, I absolutely loved the Metroid 2d games and the continuation of the story excites me.

Metroid fusion is a game I grew up on, and I played the older ones later and they were all fantastic, I just hope Dread has a good story, keeps the difficulty there, and keep it metroid.

Fantastic game choices, friend. :D I want to play all of these so bad. xD Really glad we are getting some Nintendo sequels, especially for Metroid of all franchises. After the the truly bizarre Other M, we need a decent Metroid game.

Im ready for the successor to metroid fusion, My favorite childhood metroid game. Hollow knight has been the only game that has satisfied my metroidvania need. I hope dread will live up to the hype.

Completely agree with you here, I would go as far to say Hollow Knight is the best metroidvania title to come out in recent memory. :D I spent an unhealthy amount of time playing that game. xD

That metroid 2 remaster on the 3ds aint a bad game

I knew about the Darkest Dungron sequel, that's pretty cool. :D I enjoyed the first game. Always great to see Warhammer still going strong.

Im looking forward to COD: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer remastered. The best COD multiplayer hands down. I hope the legends of it existing are true.

Big +1 here, Modern Warfare 2 to this day is one of my favourites from CoD and easily the CoD I've spent the most time playing.

Age of Empires 4 Battlefield 2042 i hope relic entertainment doesnt change the game drastically. i want a refreshing Age of Empires 4 with its roots from Age of Empires 2. actually i just want a Age of Empires with deep competitive game mechanics.

The Age of Empires format never really changed, so I'm looking forward to seeing what the sequel brings. Watching others play Age of Empires is always compelling. :D
