800k for a Karambit?
Portugal LADY_NINI - HLTV.org
Every month we see new records breaching the CS: GO skin transfer market, speculation keeps increasing as well as a consequence. ohnepixel, a skin expert Youtuber, recently evaluated a Karambit Case Hardened for the total amount of 800.000 dollars. The YouTuber reached this number after discussing with other skin specialists in the market, have a look below and tell us if you agree with the suggested price! Source: youtu.be/4nCt99ezhiA

Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
Thing is, no one would pay 800,000 fucking dollars for pixels. If you do, you deserve a one way free ticket to your local insane asylum.

Well, that’s decent but imagine if you knew how to invest on the actual stock market. There’s quite a significant opportunity cost that you’re incurring by investing in skins.

IDK bro. You can literally get 2,3x return in 1 year time on BF or other operation trade up fodder skins like restricted ones or so. You can spend some 5k USD or whatever and make money, cs isn't dying in a year for sure and it's pretty much guaranteed return. What other investment is this safe and this easy to get into? Options, stock investment, etc all require continous monitoring, cs just requires patience.

skins are not for investing lmao in 5 years this game will be dead or valve will make a new cs and the skins in this game will be worth fuck all

If Valve make a new CS then they can't just kill the economy of the current game. Most likely, all the skins will be ported over.

Why do you think csgo has not been ported to source2? You can't port the skins. Dota is in source2 for half a decade. Meanwhile what they did with CS was much more expensive than porting a game to a new engine. They make $250 mil+ just from cases every year, not counting steam market transactions.
2021-08-04 13:21
So, you think you will get your skin from CSGO to that new CS. Cmon , valve arent that stupid. They would make you buy again lmao
2021-08-04 13:23
1 reply
Lol make you buy again. Do you even think from your brain . Why would they kill all the investors and their loyal buyers who bring in 90% of the money in game. They would lose faith as a company and then no investors. No sales in bulk. Sorry if it's a bait.
2021-08-04 18:20
Ofc they can whenever a new cs comes out, skins will not be transfered over to the new game.
2021-08-04 21:18
1 reply
#77 You're not realising how much that'll harm Valve itself. The only reason CS hasn't been already ported to Source 2 is because of the skins. There's no way to port skins, and they'd have to remake every single on of them.
2021-08-05 05:06
If you were extremely rich would you pay 800k for a single item in csgo? Or would you rather spend that much on multiple really expensive items instead of just one? Or buying property or gambling are things people would be more likely to do.

again its a collector's item and AN INVESTMENT. he can sell it at any point AND MAKE MONEY.

In short: cool collector's item, no one cares. As for profit, not gonna happen. The main point of your comment was that someone who has a ton of money would pay that without caring. 800k is almost a million, so I will just say that the knife if sold at that price is basically a million. Do you know how many people in the world have $100M+? And now how many of those people care about or even know about csgo? (I expand on this in paragraph 2 and 3) And after we get down to those tiny numbers, how many of them are going to be willing to pay a possible 1% of their total money? 1% doesn't sound like a lot but when it's 1% of 100M, it's a lot in the eyes of those who have it. Neymar for example really likes cs skins and items it would seem, but despite having a net worth of almost 200M, he only had a 40k inventory at the end of last year (haven't checked his current inventory prices but it doesn't look close to 100k). Trying to practice argumentative writing, this is a more in depth response: pastebin.com/95MamqYq

Oh and I somehow didn't prioritize my main point: no one is going to buy it for that much. But if they do, they're not making money on it.

Not exactly the same though for one important reason, hand painted vs digitally crafted. One pixel is one pixel, one hand drawing is always unique. Personally I always thought skins value are insanity but again I'm the person who never pays for skins and proudly rocking the free/achievement skins only in any game that uses them.

Then view them as collection items, those are not unique, but they are rare enough to be a commodity worth paying extra for. Same logic follows with skins

Yes I agree but my point to be more precise is skins are essentially a big collection of differently colored pixels vs a painting that every stroke of the artist is unique and requires more thought and talent to make it great. That's why paintings from famous artists will always be higher in value vs CSGO skins, there's more appriciation into the process in how the art came to life. But yea as a collector's value I suppose it doesn't matter.
2021-08-03 22:05
this skin in particular is also unique since it's the only FN version of that pattern
2021-08-03 22:14
Sure, but the other things are tangible. It's true that float on csgo make the items unique and more valuable the ones that are special, but you totally depends on Valve. I mean, fifa cards cost some money, but as soon as a new fifa appears, all of them devaluate a lot, same could happen with source 2 or csgo 2 depending on what Valve does.
2021-08-03 21:50
1 reply
Well yes it can devalue, sure. But that is unlikely to happen anytime soon and it is against Valve's own interest to make them devalue because they take a cut in a lot of the transactions
2021-08-03 21:53
True, though paintings and stamps are keeping or increasing their value.... what will a digital item be worth when nobody plays csgo anymore?
2021-08-03 21:53
1 reply
currently, a lot of csgo skins are increasing their value. Obviously not forever, but nothing lasts forever. If people deem it worthy to collect and have the money to do so, I don't see the problem with it
2021-08-03 21:54
terrible comparison, even if you bought that knife valve would still own any in game property over you
2021-08-03 22:05

It still is a collector's item and people collect it. The analogy works even if you don't actually own the property

If u have a job, then ofc u wouldnt buy it But if u are rich like having billions dollars than why not, this karambit still holds value. If cs:go is still gonna be a thing in next 10 years he can sell it for even more than 800k

I don't even know why these people out here trying to justify this insane price, 800k for 1 item is insane and even if cs is still a thing in 10 years the chance of finding someone willing to pay more than that is nearly 0.

Similar to what #3 said, it seems absolutely fucking absurd on paper, but people do like collecting things. I know the price point is absolutely ridiculous, but taking a second to think about how much painting have sold in auctions, I'm not too surprised.

it is insane. but what's worse are gacha game whales that can spend similar amounts for something with no trade value. overall it's just best to forget that these kind of retarded things exist

You have a 1/400 chance of unboxing a knife. You have a 1/66 chance of getting a case hardened karambit from that. You then have a 1/10 of that being st, a 1/14 chance of getting fn, and a 1/1000 chance of getting that pattern. Together this mean you have a 1/3,696,000,000 chance of getting this knife from a case. You would pay on average 10billion to get this from a case. Edit: couldve sworn it was st but I guess not. Divide that by 10, so you’d end up with around 1billion spent on only revolver cases to get this knife
2021-08-04 18:35
how many FN kara blue gems are there and how many cases were opened ? every year 300 mil worth of cases mate and we have 1.

St case hardened AKs with a 661 pattern are going for upwards of 200k already. This knife is a one of a kind that likely will never exist again. St fn Kara blue gem top pattern is the epitome of valueable cs skins. It would almost certainly go for that if not more. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to sell for 1.2 mil tbh.
