idea: air burst grenade

Grenade that instead of just doing damage, blasts away targets from epicenter. Damage: low, maybe half of HE. Maybe none? Effect: blasts targets back, Counter: Player can resist the effect completely by crouching at moment of explosion. After crouching transition is complete, and while remaining crouched, player have 50% blast push resistance. Conversely, player gets pushed more, if blasted during jump transition, and if in midair. Expected results in meta: using nade for boosting teammates. Halting enemy rush. Countering smoke cover that players exploits for cheap bomb defuses.

Yes. Would be complementary to counter/deter players from lurking inside of smoke grenades. Even with M4a1s, often even if you strongly suspect that there is probably someone hiding inside, you can easily miss and just not have enough bullets to clear it.

Just remove smokes of you hate them so much. Don’t get ppls issue with smoke defuses. You really want the game fully T sided? If you fear a smoke defuse, defend the bomb instead of just hiding for time. The smoke is a counter for the hiding play, why would you want it to be uncounterable?

In cs 1.6 times free defuses used to be extremely rare. To point where the failed defuse by spawn became into one of legendary moments in cs. Nowadays you can just get free defuses based on luck alone, exploiting smoke grenade for what it was not meant for. The purpose of smoke grenade is first and foremost to block vision from certain angle. However players exploits it beyond, the uses that are not intended parts of what smoke grenade is supposed to do. So the more counters to those exploits, the better.

So you want no counter to T post plant just hiding for time? This change would just make CT a save every time which is much more boring. It’s counterable by Ts actually defending the retake so the CT sleep can’t get to the bomb and smoke. It a cheap tactic that beats another cheat tactic. Fair game if you ask me.

It would impact only yolo cheap smoke defuses, where it' s the last resort for CTs unable to clear the site in time. At that point, good riddance, you should not be getting that cheap defuse anyway.

Smoke defuses happen in 4v4 retakes as similar too, when the Ts just play boring and hide. The smoke sound forces them out to actually defend. When Ts play this was they deserve to have a smoke defuse being possible. If they don’t want that, just defend instead of hiding. Smoke defuse has a counter. Ts hiding basically doesn’t since it’s usually not possible to hardclear everything without running and that lets the T just fall back a bit more and play the sound. I much rather have fights for retakes than boring hiding.

maybe. In that case, a more solid crouch mechanic to counter the effect would be more important to add after all. At that point the Ts would still not be in clear whenever CT continues to defuse or not just by throwing some of those nades.

There has never been something like this in cs history, no one can predict what happens if such grenade is added to the game. Like, it can be used to runboost oneself or to deny a rush, not like a regular grenade would do, but really stop terrosrists. Idk I don't think this grenade will be in the game

Your whole premis seems to be to make every map super T sided. No smoke defuse, CTs can’t use cover since this will just blast them out. Having that much issue entry fragging as a T?

3 key elements you're ignoring. 1. you can't just find grenade alignment for every single position. 2. you are vulnerable at moment of throwing grenade, so you can't just yolo it to push enemy out of position when he can peek and catch you with pants off at any moment. 3. it have yet to land in exact position and hope that enemy doesn't counter it via crouching. It' s not a simple boring delete button. It adds layer to gameplay.

p.s. also, for role of pushing enemy out of position, a molotov already does it. So it can be used as example to estimate how often it would be used for the exact purpose of pushing enemy out of position. It' d make the nade play like rock-paper scissors. Smoke beats molotov, molotov is more potent version of air bust grenade. Air burst grenade beats smoke.

Air burst helicopter would be awesome. U launch it with Zeus, it flies to enemy's spawn, shoots 1000 rounds in 20secs and then explodes in the enemy's spawn. Also paint a pic to the copter of Rock shooting tank and yelling.

air burst grenade is good fit in cs go, because it plays well with other grenade arsenal. GIves ability to counter smoke lurkers, another option to counter smoke defuses. Option to stun and funnel enemy players for dealing more damage with molotovs and he. Gives ability to self boost at expense of taking bit of damage. It's not just a random grenade for getting yet more kills, it would take skill and interesting tactics to take advantage of it.

Thinking about it more, thanks to the answers. Here is what I'd change from initial proposal: -Amount of damage taken is proportional to how far the nade blasts player away. So boosting yourself, and taking advantage of enemy nades to boost yourself would have equal risk associated with the move. -Being crouched as way to minimize damage and completely resist getting blown away. Which would still be effective as way to stun momentarily stun players, halting enemy aggression.
