Bri'ish stereotype
focus |
Cyprus 25yroldgogetter
Only roadmen speak like that. If you are going to stereotype a British accent then the most accurate one would be RP (received pronunciation) where one cannot tell where in the UK, the speaker is from. Note that this is not how The queen, boris johnson, David cameron (twat) and Jacob rees mogg speak. They speak with Queen's English or conservative RP (not contemporary RP which is in the video). They sound very posh. Here is how it sounds: youtu.be/PcIX-U5w5Ws

Did you even watch the video you linked? Like your op is so wrong? RP AKA Queen's English (Literally written on the white board) "Note that this is not how The queen, boris johnson, David cameron (twat) and Jacob rees mogg speak. They speak with Queen's English " He said Boris Johnson speaks RP, look at the white board it says "Listen to:" The queen has an accent at least you got that And how does RP represent the UK when he said 2% of the UK use RP?

yeh don't agree with that part boris johnson has a much much more posh pronunciation. It is not the same. because it is not regional specific. To stereotype one accent is to say all of Britain is Newcastle or whatever

it's an extreme of conservative RP listen to the way she talks. that is not how someone like daniel radcliffe talks (contemporary RP)

How do you feel about Dutch accents?? Any one you prefer more or do you think it'd be better if we would just all talk in ABN?? I personally really like the Gronings accent)

Gronings accent is interesting! I like Brabants too.. Just sounds friendly and fun. And last but not least, Zeeuws. And that's probably because I live in Zeeland :) Although it's dying more and more :/

yeah same here unfortunately, we were thaught from a young age (in primary school) that we should get rid of our Drents accent because it would severely limit our opportunities on the job market later in life. I just think it's a shame, people from many other countries are proud of their accent and we all just learn to be ashamed of it (at least in my region)

Yes I would say it's similar here.. I think being able to speak ABN is important, especially with jobs where you interact with people a lot but I think accents should be preserved and used still!

i dont mean specifically London (it was example), in NL for example, the standardised Dutch is hollandic (from holland) its called ABN. so i wanted to know if this standart English accent also came from a region!

There’s a lot of classism in the uk, if you speak with a regional accent you will be looked down on in most business settings. People will think you are thick essentially so you either have to tone it down. In the past it was worse, my grandma grew up in Bradford so had quite a strong northern accent, when she went to uni she immediately dropped her accent for queens English and kept it her entire life, you’d never have known she was northern.
