question tho.. are the leagues, TO's in other FPS games also like csgo? where they keep feeding like the top 30/50 teams over and over again?! and not giving chances to new&upcoming smaller teams? 😔

umm, there are still open quals for I guess almost every event, so smaller teams can break out if they're just good enough

+1 blast literally is insane foreal went to a few events.. everything both online & offline for viewers is MASSIVE even their "music" during the breaks, everything feels high end, their animations, wp rly blast

That moment when you realise BLAST and ESL share most of their production staff

I don't want to sound rude but the Replays at Blast are 10x better than the ones at ESL.

I've seen the BLAST setup, it's pretty amazing Also both TOs have their own GFX style and vizpacks they need to conform to, so yeah the way the replays look will be different. I think BLAST and ESL are doing a great job at pushing each other to create ever better content, and although the BLAST staff I talked to a couple months back considered ESL's production slightly better, I think there's grounds to say BLAST are as good, if not better atm!

eleague was sick
2021-10-21 13:36
eleague was the best production but their cost was insane and not something most producers can sustain let alone make a profit out of

Also heard that the support from NA crowds wasn’t sufficient enough? Or was that just salty csgo fans sad about Eleague ending their csgo events?

Most of their events that had crowds (most were in their studios which didn´t have many seats) seemed quite full so i doubt that was the problem. I think it´s more likely their cost ,which was insanely high for csgo a historically unprofitable game Remember they had a full tv studio in Boston (US travel for most teams +professional tv quality crew), had extremly high player care (luxury hotel + custom gear) and also ran their events for extended periods of time (some seasons lasted something like 2 weeks straight) and had to face a lot of competitors that decreased their market share (ESL/DreamHack, PGL, EpicCenter etc at the time) which made their product less dominant in the ecosystem. Compond that with a product that´s less desirable for mainstream media (main advertisers of Turner (Owners of Eleague) , especially in america due to the shotting and terrorist aspect. The perfect storm of crap

Of course the problem is not giving attention to the tier 1. Everyone wants to watch good games. What I am saying is that the new format will barely give chances to smaller teams to grind to the top. It will be like an american sport league, which the teams are always the same, different from the football leagues around the globe, which teams are there because they won the spot because they deserve it, not because they bought it

American sport leagues are also extremely profitable and designed for these esport organizations to actually make money. Football will eventually move to a franchise. Just look at this Forbes list. Some of these American franchises are not very good teams lol. But through revenue sharing, advertising, branding and the shit ton of other revenue streams they’re extremely valuable. forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2021/05/07/.. I get what you’re saying about the smaller teams though.

Yes, they are super profitable. I am a big fan of the NFL and i can tell how strong the market is when it comes to american sports, the cowboys prove your point. I understand the franchise format, but idk, i like when a small team, who is usually an underdog, can grind to the top and become a traditional org

I understand what you mean, when it comes to small teams, but CS, in addition to being a great game, is a business, because of that I think it's important to strengthen the big CS franchises, as it ensures the long-term competitiveness of the game, which eventually will be low, so that gives safety to teams, the public and players. In addition, as well as the furia itself, which became a partner, or the Gambit that almost won the pro league, there will still be space for other teams to participate, we will still have the EPL conference, open and closed qualifiers, dream hack, among others, or that is, even if it is more difficult, there is still room for tier 2 or 3 to reach the top.

its all about growing the value of your company in esports, profit or lack thereof is pretty irrelevant

ESL staff probably earns less than I earn as a dj
2021-10-21 13:30
Genuinely not that much LMAO The C-something-somethings might be making 6 figures, but not high 6 figures Most of the common staff don't get paid that much: I could make far more from tutoring kids, but I do it for the love of the game

I know friends that do editing work for esl. Fulltime 1400-1500€ max. Which is BS cuz this aint 9-5 job The bosses eat too much -_-

Editing is a part-time job, I imagine they work a handful of hours per week for that money, which makes it worth it. Especially considering the volunteer GFX squad is super talented
2021-10-21 14:43
a lot of fresh meat in those sorts of positions meaning they can have a high turnover and be fine but yeah still sucks :/
2021-10-21 14:44
Pretty sure editing for orgs like ESL ain't fulltime.

Literally ESL admin told you it's a part time job, yet you are trying to prove me otherwise and also with total bs, I'm sorry but there's not even close amount of material to edit for 40 hours a week, because they don't have like 2 editors and they don't make videos/scenes/highlights every week.

ELeague was the best on so many fronts. BLAST has good production and PGL too. Sadly, ESL & all other organizers aren't playing their staff except ELeague who had really good backing
2021-10-21 17:12
esl and blast have been losing money for years
