huge if true
The National Basketball Association (NBA) is the most powerful and innovative league in the world with plans to expand in Europe, Marca reports. The NBA is reportedly in talks with FIBA ??to establish a new NBA division in Europe. Adam Silver, acting NBA commissioner, also informed Jordi Bertomeu. It is added that such a move by the NBA was accelerated by the dissatisfaction of Euroleague teams with J. Bertomeu's policy. True, we should not expect European and NBA clubs to play with each other - this will not be the case, and European clubs will fight only on this continent. If the deal is successful, the changes could take place as early as next season.

NBA is not the most powerful and innovative league. Also, only the playoffs really matter NFL is bigger in NA, Football is bigger in EU/SA. Maybe Asia, but I doubt that.

its like D-Tier sport now that they are slowing fixing all those bullshit rules and turning the game into college basketball where no one plays defense (expect in the playoffs where it matters), and if they try you just foul the guy.

it makes it more fun to play, but not to watch. I watched only Basketball a few times even with Nowitzkie in his prime.
2021-10-23 00:55
If you are not fakeflagging, talk for your own country. MVPs like Nowitzki, Jokic and Antetokounmpo or future legends like Doncic don't come from thin air. They are European and the NBA is becoming more European than ever.

well that's the whole point make a Farm league in Europe to make it easier to scout talent for the big league
2021-10-23 01:12
Money talks on that front, European clubs are either not willing to pay or even can't pay the amounts that the NBA teams pay the players. There is also the fame factor which is more money. Giannis had to move onto the NBA because his family was broke but Doncic probably saw sponsor opportunities that he'd never have playing for Real Madrid.

Franchise leagues will not succeed in Europe. We like the performance principle. Quite Funny when you consider the USA has the most "performances depending" economy but in sports, they want to see always the same shit teams even if they suck

I think its because in NA even the teams are franchises. They can relocate and start anew elsewhere like a business, this makes attachment as we have with clubs in SA and Europe much more difficult. So there is less incentive in watching your team grow through the divisions etc
2021-10-23 01:01
If they think American on such a project(I just know they will), it simply won't work. Europeans hate to see their team losing and hate the losers. You can't sell rebuild and tanking to a fan from Europe, if a team sucks it gotta go down instead of being rewarded with the best young talent.
