We cannot be sure because we can't play a match. But we do know that what made Astralis special were the meta they created. Top team have catch up and pretty sure improve since then.

beside the achievement then yes .. theres a reason why old astralis are fell off, not because they are suddenly suck or washed but everybody start getting better and better.

no? everybody just memorized their plays that's why Astralis started to lose. Same happened to Navi's nuke streak. Logic is simple: people just learnt to understand demos... Doesn't mean they started playing better. Scene overall is weaker now than in 2018

What is your definition of "playing better" then ? Because for me, "memorized", "learn", "understand" so that you change the way you play, in order to be better than your opponent, consist of "playing better".
2021-11-30 14:57
thats literally what you called getting better, learn from their mistakes or what they lacking and improved, so next time they meet the same opponent they know how to do better against them wtf. and scene are weaker than 2018? you kidding .. you can argue in term of competitively since navi are head&shoulders above everybody else atm but so does astralis in 2018. but in term of how every team playing and approach the game like using utility or team play, right now is so much better than 2018.

Finally someone reasonable. Basically every team can do Astrailis 2018 nades, but now with nade drop update, it is even more cutthroat in that sense. And that is only one aspect of the competitive scene that has improved
2021-12-02 06:26
Yes? Tier 2 teams now are as good as 2018 tier 1. Like use your brain for a second, teams and meta is constantly evolving and the players have 3 years more of practise, thousands gaming hours.

Thats a hard question, but would be a good game between Astralis and Navi, but without game its really hard to talk about this, bcs meta changed a lot, like things that Astralis were doing in 2018, now almost every t1 team is doing

If you take Astralis with how good they were in their prime and adapt that to 2021 they'd reck every team including NaVi. If you take them as they were yeah, G2 (without stand-ins) and Gambit would win

2018 s1mple did it fully on LAN against Prime Astralis, with zeus, edward, and flamie (who wasn't bad, but average). Also, his mechanical skills (aim, flick speed, accuracy with weapons, etc) was more crisper and faster in 2018, I feel. However, as a teammate, s1mple 2021 is soo much better. Makes so many sacrifices for the team, isn't at all selfish anymore, and the "baiting" is almost non-existent. In addition, his gamesense and experience is higher. Imo In terms of raw mechanical skills, 2018 s1mple >> 2021 s1mple As an overall team-player, 2021 s1mple > 2018 s1mple

flamie was average? He was 22 or 23 player of the year lol. Thats not Average. Thats way better than average and also elec was top4. So he had good teammates, zeus was better igl and leader than boombl4. Edward vs Perfecto is also 50/50
2021-11-30 13:14

Zeus and Edward were clearly past their primes, Boombl4 and Perfecto was such an improvement for NAVI, just look at the stats
2021-11-30 13:22
No, Flamie wasn't good at all. He had 0.98 while playing Top5 teams, barely ~1.00 against Top10 teams, 1.04 against Top20 teams, while being the 3rd star after s1 and elec. His stats were boosted by playing against lower tier teams. He sucked in most of the big events against strong opposition. And let me add, he had absolutely 0 gamesense. The number of times he got caught off-guard and unprepared was ridiculously high. He had some aim, which is why he wasn't a liability. After he lost even his aim, he became a total bot for the last 3 years. Also no, Perfecto >> Edward. If enemies hit a site where Edward was anchoring, he would almost always be a free kill. Perfecto is a great anchor, and doesn't usually die for free. His rotations are also quite good. Also, perfecto is FAR better than edward in clutching, in addition to having a much better gamesense. Also, "zeus better IGL" xDDD. Zeus's strat of waiting for the last 15 seconds before rushing (he started the Navi strats meme btw) or the "s1mple go kill" strat xD wasn't anything revolutionary. His strength was in being a natural leader, hyping up the team, being a glue factor. On a tactical level, he was usually braindead. Getting a good tactical decision from him was uncommon. They only won because of prime s1mple and prime electronic's firepower. B1ad3's strats that Boombl4 tries to implement, has made boombl4 a much better IGL than zeus ever was. It's not even close. In terms of mechnical skills as well as tactics, boombl4 > zeus.

as the biggest s1mple fanboy on this site i have to say 2018 mechanical skills were better, not much better, but slightly better, same with other players like niko, but it doesnt mean that they are worse, just not as crisp aim (which could still be the best in the scene, but worse in comparision with his old self)

2021 of course, the game keeps evolving and players gets better and better. Stop living in a fantasy where you believe old school players are better than pros now.
2021-11-30 13:15
In 2018, the competition was weaker than in 2021. And tournaments have now become more important and prestigious.
2021-11-30 14:26
just from eye test 2021 s1mple is insane! I understand what he did back in 2018 is considered the best ever year of a pro individually, but this year I think he has a solid case to beat that

can't really compare those two years because in 2018 he had one of the worst functioning teams ever in tier 1 cs around him and had to carry every single game for them to even have a chance to compete while in 2021 he is way more supportive and can rely on his teammates to actually win games when he doesn't carry the shit out of them.

2021-11-30 14:56
He's playing better, you can easily see it if you look at demos. He used to do a lot of arcade/uncalculated plays because of either desperate situation or just in general to make plays, these days all of his highlight plays look and feel super calculated.

it's really the opposite. Better teams mean more buys and easier kills (killing of rotations) = better stats.
2021-12-02 06:51
i think 2021 because now he has a GOOD team and he can't farm stats that easy, back in 2018 he was getting set up and farming kills a lot, thats why in 20 jan 2022 HLTV will say a NEW PEAK in csgo history just because ( for sure ) he will have better stats at Big events/Major. i mean look at this : hltv.org/stats/players/compare/7998/s1mp.. my god, yea way less maps but still

In 2018 it was interesting to watch him with zeus and edward idk why, but it was nice team and especially cologne 2018 was great. Ofc astralis vs navi was so freaking nice competition. in 2021 just whole team is good and s1mple can even be bottomfraging and still win game... not like 2018 where he has to actually carry a team to win I like this post actually, becouse in 2018 he still could say something bad about teammates and get mad now its just better version of him 2021 > 2018 imo
2021-12-01 13:42
s1mple 2021
2021-12-02 06:33
S1 2021 > S1 2020 > S1 2019 > S1 2018 pro players of this age training 8h a day don't regress, it's just the overall scene that gets better with time
2021-12-02 06:40
2021 He's getting better and better.
2021-12-02 06:42
of course 2021. In a lot of blow out games he doesn't get crazy stats because he doesn't have to carry to win, which lets him chill until he needs to. It is pretty obvious watching the games. Every time NAVI needs him, he step up this year.
2021-12-02 06:43
Prime csgo goat s1mple
2021-12-02 06:44
I think they are slightly different, and for which I would prefer would depend on my team structure. If I want someone to have to hard carry on both sides of the map, someone to open and close rounds, and to basically just have to single handedly win me games. I would take 2018 s1mple. He maybe overpeaks sometimes, he isn't quite as ice cold in big finals, or as strong mentally, and his macro understanding of the game is not as good. But put him in any position, with any gun, and he will kill people, better then anyone to do it before or anyone to do it since. 2021 S1mple is who I would take to make the best team in the world. His CT side rotations are actually inhuman. He seems to know where the T's will go before the casters do. He is better at playing against really tactical utility heavy teams, and makes almost no mistakes. He doesn't have the 2018 factor where when he get's the MVP he has the most opening kills and the most clutches, but he is a more complete player.
2021-12-02 06:49
2018 better. - Him and electronic would play with deagle when zeus and edward would play with ak47 when they had bad economy, but he still would put up numbers - Navi werent dominating back then, so its harder to get good stats (More eco rounds = worse stats)
