HLTV Block Button
 |
Japan WOLFGANG_SAKI
I think we should have a block button on this website. I have way too many kosakisexuals who constantly jerk off on their cheap office chairs to the thought of me and are obsessed with me to the point where they get off on any kind of hate I get. At least with the block function I can use this site like it’s intended to use without any stans bothering me.

Yet a flag doesn't define a weeb, the behaviour of the user does and in this instance, the flag+flair combination is being utilised to bait, meaning the flag is irrelevant. This is exactly the reason why HLTV users don't deserve that much power.

Coming from someday who witnessed what the forum was like when everybody else was unfairly blocking each other, it is that deep, friend. It's a nice idea and it could work in very specific circumstances like with the PM system but trust me - it doesn't work on the forum, friend. :D

Yes, the term that is misconstrued wholly to begin with, that isn't a viable reason to block another user, friend.

That's exactly my point. The flag + flair combination is specifically to bait, so blocking those users to negate baiting is a practical use of the function but blocking them because they are "weebs", the term that is universally misconstrued on HLTV as is...

Blocking literally exists in every social media if it is unfair or not?

Yes and under fair use, it exists as a credible function. On HLTV, the function was never used fairly... I implore you to look at the forums during that time when the very toxic website that is HLTV had THAT much power... No, it didn't work. I feel sorry for BATISTUTA9 to this day for pouring that much into an extension that was grossly misused.

So it didnt work 100 years ago we should never try again? They should implement it for 1 month and users would decide if it will stay or not

It didn't work then on HLTV, it won't work now on HLTV. Yes, the forums have got significantly better since those times but I would rather not give every single troll on HLTV the ability to block other users on HLTV. All I'm suggesting is still utilise the functionality in a way where it can still be of use without destroying the purpose of a fully functioning forum, designed to irk out the difference of opinions.

I know HLTV better than most on this website, friend. My suggestion is not that farfetched, we can still utilise the functionality, just not like it was in the past.
2021-11-30 23:10
I've been here a long time and don't even remotely remember it mattering. Of course, I don't even remember the block function regardless, but I'd say HLTV is way more of a shit show now than it was even 4 years ago.

It was a wreck. Threads were being made just to reach out to users who were being blocked, users were posting on other user's guest-books, which led to more difficult moderation; you could still see the replies of user's that blocked you, yet you couldn't do anything about it because your replies weren't seen. To top it off, users were being blocked for simply having a different opinion, which is the opposite of what a forum is supposed to be for. Some of the more trollier users were blocking others to simply bait, making threads about other's "block lists" and bragging about it, other users giving ultimatums, etc... It was just a forum of users blocking each other, no discussions were being had and replies were never seen.

I'm assuming this was an offshoot of HLTV itself? I literally don't remember any of this, but I admittedly don't even notice specific users most of the time here. I'm not sure what makes this community so toxic and immature. It was always goofy and kind of trolly back in the GotFrag days, but it's amplified about 5 million times in recent years. Whatever drives that cultural shift, I have no idea... I think blocking in the sense of most places (where you simply can't see a reply or thread, or they can't directly message you outside of the forum) is reasonable. It's a pretty common tool on most discussion boards. Power to prevent direct interaction is a whole different thing entirely, of course.

Fair enough. ^^ Thank you for understanding the point I was trying to illustrate. :D If such a feature is to be implemented, it would need be nerfed and introduced slowly I think... Actually give it some beta-testing as opposed to instantly giving other users the ability to block other users. Some of the features from the HLTV.Pro extension were actually pretty good and I'm all for user features again one day. ^^

Yeah I would never give users here so much power they could prevent someone from actual replies, that's got abuse and trolling written all over it. Weaponizing forum behavior is awful precedent. If I block people on other sites it's usually so I don't have to see their ridiculous crap (usually if it's a demonstrated constant). I'm pretty lenient on the whole thing, even if I don't agree with someone I'm not often petty enough to hide them from feeds unless it's something egregious. Ohhhh. I forgot about that extension. I never used it I guess that's why I was super confused about what you were talking about.

It's been tried and tested before and it didn't work... I'm fine with blocking receiving PM's from other users but negating the premise of a fully functioning forum by blocking other users does not work.
