kickboxing vs muay thai
 |
Italy OrwellWasRight
i've done 3 years of karate and in my discipline the punches to the faces were prohibited, u could only do kicks to the face/body and punches to the body, we used to spar barehanded so it was really nice for the conditioning. i was thinking to go for something more complete like muay thai or kick whats the main difference? do you use big gloves in muay thai? are there ranks or belts in muay thai? do you study theory or only practice physically?
2021-12-01 11:42
Topics are hidden when running Sport mode.
muay thai is focused on gettin closed to the enemy and going for big and explosive elbow and knee strikes, kickboxing is straightforward and going for hooks powerfull jabs and kicks, u don't use gloves in muay thai u use ur bare hands and there are no ranks as far as i am concerned. And I think that every MA has it's own philosphy so i think its also important to study theory

-trying to be smart -uses ass when he never touched an ass (your own ass doesn't count) -gets irritated at person who politely corrected him u mad? ???

is there conditioning during training? like getting used to getting hit by bare fists / sparring without protections etc
2021-12-01 11:54

uhm I think you start with a softer material, after some time you will go to a harder material.
2021-12-01 11:56
you are not getting hit by bare fists, no idea where that guy heard that, but you always punch taped up and in gloves.
2021-12-01 11:58
loads and loads of conditioning in styles like muay thai and lethwei specially in chins, ribs and neck
2021-12-01 11:58
In other words, you did taekwondo, not karate
2021-12-01 11:46

its basically taekwondo but with more focus on punches and without protections
2021-12-01 11:48
No, kyokushinkai Karate uses the same rules, no punches to the head
2021-12-01 11:59
-do you use big gloves in muay thai? 10 ounce for competition. 12 ounce for Sparring, mostly with shin and head protection They guy who said no gloves was completly wrong. -are there ranks or belts in muay thai? No -do you study theory or only practice physically? If your Karate trainer showed you a Mae Geri and you repeat what he did, is it theoretic or physical practice? :) So, every training is always theory and practice If you wann know more about MT hit me up.

i come from kyokushin background and there were katas (form), some theory classes like talking about how things work, attitude discipline etc etc i want to know if MT is heavily physically oriented like boxe for example or still has some roots like karate :P sorry for late answer

-theres no rules for sizes, you can either use from 10 to 16 ounces, people use heavier gloves when training cause it feels lighter when you fight -fighting gloves are from 8 to 12 oz. I never used helmet on training but there is teams/facilities that use it often shin guards all the time unless u're a pro/sparring for a fight On the traditional muay thai there is no rank belts but on the western and globalized there is the ranks are shown by the kruang on the biceps def by colour: -white/red; red; red/light blue; light blue; light blue/dark blue; dark blue; black; black/white (grandmaster) my personal choice is going for 12-14oz gloves for training. Go for thailand gloves, like Fairtex, Windy, Twins, Top King.

it all depends on where you train. My team doesnt care much about the phylosophy, but we treat everyone inside the tatami with much respect, specially people with more degrees/belts, and ofc the master, professor, teacher, instructor... We even give the thai salute every sesh. But I know there is a lot of trad teams out there which they teach the phylosophy, "ram muay" and shit....

Muay Thai is for beating and scaring common people. Depends very much on your opponent level because absorbing damage is a good idea to show your spirit but not good idea to win.

kyokushin also has the idea of absorbing damage, even if they teach u how to parry/deflect blows, in official bouts they dont even care about getting hit cause they are conditioned like super heroes lol

I believe it works and actually like both muay thai and kyokushin, but its for high spiritual people who work all their life and use it mostly for self developement. For simple people the simple means the better, so boxing or mma.

i like kyokushin too, dont get me wrong, but the idea of not training vs head punches is just a flaw
2021-12-09 15:34
You won't study theory in the gym but there's nothing forbidding you from doing it yes there's belts or 'degrees' I really dislike the karate idea of prohibiting punches to the face, it makes no sense at all and puts it at a great disadvantage compared to other martial arts especially in the era of MMA, IMO Also if you're going for Muay Thai I recommend you get a gym that allows you to practice boxing as well, since Muay Thai gyms don't put too much focus on boxing technique from my experience

thank you, yea i dislike it too even tho it makes sense to avoid getting face injuries etc... but still, i think one has to learn how to defend the head correctly and u wont learn unless u fight with full body rules (including head punches)

you were training at the wrong place. muay thai is training is 80% improving boxing techniques. There aint much to learn or improve on kick/knees techinques. Once u learn it u just gotta mix it with the combos. But boxing, hands and guard placement, head/shoulders movement, feints, dodges is a daily and nonstop improvement. Punching pads is basically a muay thai trainin sesh

idk, I've done tried it in more than 1 gym in 2 cities even and I always feel like people struggle a bit with boxing range and fundamentals like the proper form for punches - but it's probably more common at the lower levels either way I think you cant go wrong with practicing boxing + muay thai
2021-12-09 15:26
try boxing. thats better

Boxing. Without a doubt the best. Kickboxing and Muay Thai are based on getting points, whereas in boxing the goal is the knockout, it is a martial art that is totally thought out and developed for this purpose, that's why it's the best

Knockout is inefficiency, it depends on the person getting done cold, submission is the way you will end most of fights if not point based. Which muay thai do way better, you can break the leg, grap him etc, you can even elbow him, and make him fear fighting you. Boxing is 1 dimensional and i'm not suprised guy thinking its all about knockouts thinks thats the best sport, and when you talk about knockout, when the greatest of all time boxer is literally a point artist aka floyd mayweather.
