I haven't lived in the UK so I won't be able to compare it, but my elder sister lives in the US.
She says that the healthcare facilities in Kolkata are much better than in the US. In Kolkata, you have private hospitals and govt hospitals. Govt. hospitals are totally free and treatment is really good, as a result, more patients, less staff. There are a lot of private hospitals as well that provide good treatments.
Regarding clinics, we have at least 1 doctor with his/her private clinic in every locality. Approx they charge $5 per visit. They even visit the patient's house if required.
Say, I got cough and cold (before Covid era), I used to go to a local pharmacy, tell him the symptoms and get medicines; and they work. The cost of medicine is also less. Most medicines cost like $1 for 10 tablets.
Almost same with the education sector, govt schools/colleges, and private schools/colleges. Most people go to private schools but it's very difficult to get into govt colleges here. You must have heard the news about the new CEO of Twitter, Parag Agarwal, he is from a govt college, IIT. One needs to be super smart to get into govt colleges here.
Yes, corruption is there. The situation is better compared to what it used to be previously.
People follow traffic rules on main roads but not in small lanes.
You can ask me more about Kolkata, but please don't ask me to compare it because I haven't lived in any of the 1st world countries, so won't be able to compare Kolkata with London or so.
