Hell yeah! They are my favorite band alongside Deftones and they have such a cool sound. I always try to recommend their music whenever possible. :D They have more soothing songs as well which I also love but I felt like these were closer to what you asked for.

I've been very obsessed with 'The Cold Sun' recently and I've been listening to the whole album everyday for the past few days. :D Took a deeper look into the story and really made me appreciate the album even more (specifically tracks such as 'Dance on My Skin', 'P.U.R.P.L.E.' and even the short track 'Never More'). I like the atmosphere and the aesthetic of 'I Let It in and It Took Everything' a bit more but they are both amazing albums in my opinion. There's just something so special about it that I can't really pinpoint. 'I Let It in and It Took Everything...', 'A Sad Cartoon' and 'Broken Vision Rhythm' are just few examples of the truly amazing tracks on the album that make me appreciate the album so much. Also an off topic question but what are your thoughts on the EP 'This Is As One'? :)

man sitting down and listening to 'the cold sun' all in one go is such a good experience, and so is 'i let it in'. pesonally love Stigmata, Babylon and Its Yours on 'the cold sun'. Also the album has such a cool underlying story that reminds of that Dark Souls style of story telling where its not immediately clear what the story contains. for 'i let it in' i mostly care about the slower songs like A Sad Cartoon and Is It Really You but Heavy is The Head i also think is a really good song. This album was like a breath of fresh air to me since id been so heavily into deathcore for a few years at this point i hadnt listened to much "softer" music in a long time and this made me go on to appreciate lots of other genres. I think i prefer The Cold Sun because its the album that got me back into metal back in 2017, i started in about 2012 when i was 10 and then stopped in about 2015 after basically just listening to Lost Forever//Lots Together by Architects the whole year prior. As for the EP, i love it. All 4 songs on it are some of both bands best work. White Hot is a song that still gives me chills every time i listen to it and Servant and Master was such an odd song that caught me off guard with its heavy distorted synths and really interesting groovy riffs but i love it. As for the Holding Absence side, Saint Cecilia will always be one of my favourite songs ever, its a beautiful piece of music that tugs on my heart when i hear it. I have a similar opinion on Everything aswell, while Holding Absence isnt a band i keep up to date with they do know how to make some very emotive music.

Definitely, it's such a riveting experience. The storyline and the tracks themselves are amazing (as you can probably see by this pic: gyazo.com/022cc21d1d9e1cdbec95255bed02c8..) and everything fits so damn well together. Although I really love most tracks on this record 'Babylon...', 'East of Eden' and 'Loathe' are probably my favorites. 'P.U.R.P.L.E.' is probably the only track on the record that actually took me quite a while to start appreciating but it also has grown on me quite a bit while I was listening to the album on repeat for the past week. :D I agree, the softer songs on the album really carry it but it also makes it feel like a breathe of fresh air as you also mentioned. Nevertheless they still stick to their sound and aren't too scared to experiment with new sounds ('Aggressive Evolution' as an example). With all of this being said I still adore all the other songs in the album too. My favorite tracks of the album are probably 'New Faces in the Dark', 'A Sad Cartoon' (the Reprise track is a cherry on the top) and 'I Let It in and It Took Everything...'. Also kind of funny how this album brought you into listening to more "softer" music meanwhile this album was what actually got me into metal ~1.5 years ago. :D A funny coincidence but it's nice how an album such as this can connect people like us together in such an odd way. That's very valid reasoning, since it's also the same reason why 'This Is As One' is on a gold pedestal in my books. 'Servant and Master' (which just randomly popped in my Spotify recommendations) is actually the very first metal song that I listened to and was like "hey, this ain't too bad". That one song in particular worked as a gateway for me into liking metal. Also nothing wrong with listening to 'Lost Forever // Lost Together' for a whole year, absolutely valid. :) With the context above, it's actually very nice to chat with someone who can appreciate 'This Is As One' as much as I do. :D That 4 song EP will most likely forever hold a special place in my heart with all the incredible tracks on the record. You can probably already guess my favorite song off of the EP without me having to give any more hints. :P Anyway, it was a pleasure to chat with you man! So nice to see fellow Loathe fans around here since they tend to be a pretty rare sight. :D Have a good one man. ^^

my top 5 songs right now in no particular order: vektor - recharging the void (prog thrash metal) vektor - accelerating universe (prog thrash metal) opeth - blackwater park (prog death metal) edge of sanity - crimson (prog death metal, 40 fkn minutes) blood incantation - awakening from the dream of existence to the multidimensional nature of our reality (mirror of the soul) (prog death metal, and yes that is the name of one song)

if you want some deeper cuts try these: Cryptic Shift - Moonbelt Immolator (prog deathrash. you should probably be sensing a theme here with my picks) Demoniac - So It Goes (just really good thrash, slightly blackened) Cosmic Putrefaction - Abysmal Resonance Projection (prog death) Siderean - Eolith (not really sure how to describe it but it's wacky as shit) Devoid of Thought - Sidereal Necrosis (prog death) cosmic putrefaction and devoid of thought are both quite similar to blood incantation so I reckon you'd like them in particular
2022-01-13 23:13
opeth - so good edge of sanity - so good bloodbath - also amazing, and also tied to the same guys no metal list would be complete without meshuggah.

I actually had the same thing before and I feel like it was the reason why I didn't like metal in the first place when I was younger, since the harsh vocals/screaming just sounded unpleasant to me. It just sounded so uncomfortable and made me feel like that too but I guess with listening to more metal (metalcore specifically) I got more used to it and even started liking it (although I still don't like these super heavy screams and growls that much). If I remember correctly 'Servant and Master' by Loathe (which I just randomly stumbled upon in my Spotify recommendations :D) was the first metal song that I actually liked since there was a very interesting sound and also clean vocals mixed in which made it more listenable for a non-metalhead like me at the time. Still hold it as my favorite song to this day. :D Here's a link to it in case you want to listen to it: youtube.com/watch?v=VA9r0V4qzko

Tbh I don't understand the "heaviness" of such metal music. I think that this "heaviness" turned into "madness". Also I don't like this screaming, it really sounds like he's breathing in. It's not powerful imho. Chester had a really powerful voice ( youtu.be/er-TinIKvCw?t=125 youtu.be/CpfRXSHb-6Y?t=53 ) and scream ( youtu.be/CpfRXSHb-6Y?t=95 youtu.be/qgFaJ8_RTsc?t=92 ). And these are NOT metal songs. From something nu-metal I'd say: youtu.be/0gmPXpPIrSg?t=921 youtu.be/eP-8qFJ7pZo youtu.be/j2wbUQNh6Ao youtu.be/PF2W0d6OA6U?t=150 youtu.be/jowGGTyKA60?t=229 youtu.be/7jv8SmwTs84?t=155 youtu.be/0gmPXpPIrSg?t=1466 youtu.be/H8KpoD2rhCE youtu.be/OPhFQpLmYi4 or youtu.be/gRmNYWR3oGc youtu.be/wWBp-nlGX1o youtu.be/RLnik5fy5Hw youtu.be/klr2s4lLJ6o youtu.be/-6eUCOFXuxo The sound (bass) in Wretches and Kings and Victimized is bad due to youtube

Yea, i wouldn´t call Haunted "hardcore", but i also love some of the "new wave" hardcore such as Cult of Luna. And i still listen to some of the old HC. Especially nine and refused. But the latter is mostly due to nostalgic reasons.

It´s a reference to the baseline and drumspedals. Sorry to dissapoint you. But now that you mention it, it sounds a bit like "stonking" in a sexual way.

i figured it had to do something with the sound, like how djent became djent because of the guitar tones. the way i heard it though sounded like flakka flakka which is a drug here in the US that makes you a zombie lol

this genre of metal is just weird to me i hate when they shout like degenerates in this high pitched voice and you can't even understand any lyrics at all whats the fucking point
2022-01-14 02:58
9 replies
Honestly, the lyrics dont matter. Most of these treat them as such aswell. Its more about the music and the tones the singers create. If you are interested I recommend watching this video where the singer does a live version: youtube.com/watch?v=PvQuqGBG7E4 And there is this video where a classical vocalists gives the song and listen and gives her take on it: youtube.com/watch?v=9lGCaw0AllU Cheers
2022-01-14 03:31
7 replies
if you are into "tones" alone you also justify mumble rap i get there doesn't HAVE to be meaning to every song there is but still it removes like 90% of creative work in my opinion it isn't like its a fucking orchestra you might aswell say "autotune sounds good so i like it" for me its lazyness and degeneration
2022-01-14 03:40
3 replies
I personally would argue that mumble raps offers alot less musically than bands such as Lorna Shore. I mean, would you like the song, if you understood the lyrics and liked the lyrics? I see rap as lyrical music, where the lack of lyrics is alot more impactful than with these metalbands. Plus some metalbands actually have incredibly well written lyrics.

Ohh you are right, thought I linked the original singer, but I guess I accidently copy and pasted the cover :D But yeah as you said, he did a great job aswell.
2022-01-16 17:15
the point is to be heavy. heavy music has some type of different emotion you dont get when listening to other genres. you dont have to hate or call them degenerates because even though it might sound like noise to you alot of these bands put in alot of hard work and time to make these songs for people to enjoy them

It's ok if you don't like this and even dare to call Borknagar "Happy Metal". After checking the shitty generic deathcore u posted on the original post I wouldn't expect you to like proper music. If you enjoy brutality there's plenty of death and black subgenres that are much much better than the shitty deathcore you posted.

youre in the right thread my friend dont worry. all metal enjoyers are welcome no matter the subgenre :D thats one of my favorite gojira tracks and if you like them you may like these guys youtube.com/watch?v=NxLYJJnlGs8 i consider them the even more modern gojira. they do use low tunings (this ones in drop G) but theyre tight and clean and it doesnt sound muddy at all

Gojira is one of my favorite bands, yet I still enjoy low tunings. All I need in a song is the energy, feeling, and most important, a good melody/hook

New Enterprise Earth and Shadow of Intent are pure bangers. I'm very excited about this upcoming year for deathcore.
