Is it true that many Lithuanians know Russian from their families or study it in school? Is there the influence or maybe slight similarities? How popular is studying German there? In my country, it's becoming more and more of an English 2.0 , many job opportunities, guides, tutors etc.

Are there more similarities between Ukrainian and Polish than Russian and Polish? I know for a fact that Polish is harder than Russian, can barely decipher any text in Polish :D , whereas in Russian I can grasp a little bit since I know how to read Cyrillic and have similarities in vocabulary with RO.

In case which language is the most similar to polish I'd say ukrainian, czech and slovak. Russian not so much but I can understand some words, not full sentences. I don't know cyrillic but from what I hear meeting ukrainians in Poland, I can talk with them using polish while they use ukrainian

No, it's a completely different language related to the Turkic language family, it doesn't have same roots with Russian. Yakutia joined Russia in the middle of XVII century along with Yakut people themselves, so they'd been there even before we came.

- Romanian is native language and in English I achieved fluency, even though I can make mistakes occasionally. -I studied both French and German in school but know the very basics from them. It's easier to understand French sometimes due to the vocabulary similarities (when reading though), but I feel like my German is a bit sharper when it comes to my word pronunciation and structure understanding. Looking forward to learn German since it is becoming more and more of English 2.0 - Since I can read in Cyrillic with ease, I would like to study Russian. It's a nice language but has it's own share of complicated grammar and vocabulary.

Well, Western Ukraine is literally half polish xD But usually people can easily understand polish, but they're not able to speak it, usually. Maybe 20-30% of Ukraine can speak polish, can't say for sure.

of course, it's always a good bonus. But still tbh i usually use russian + english combo around 90% of time and it works perfectly. Russian is native for almost all post-USSR countries and English is pretty common for EU. Hardest thing about it is to find time to practice every single one.

The difference between english and french is just an accent or?
2022-01-15 15:03
The difference is some lexis and pronunciation, it’s really not that different, but still considered different languages.

So just like Germany and Austria / Switzerland In case the same language but with a big accent and some different words

I mean, it just depends on how you differ a language from a dialect, because it's mostly political (eg Balkans). Some German idioms, which are considered dialects of the same language, are surely less similar to each other than Ukrainian to Russian, especially Schweizerdeutsch.
