During the day it was -5 and wind about 12-20 meters/sec + snowing, right now (11 pm) it shows -13 and the rest is pretty much the same, this will continue until tomorrow morning

With our current government, power outages are the norm, yes. Our populistic president has subsidies in place to keep rates in check and therefore indulge lower classes which are the bulk of their votes. But that also means less investment in infrastructure which leads to the aforementioned power outages.
However, the other day it seems there was a fire in a house which caused a high-tension line to go out of service, therefore, causing a massive blackout. Apparently like 700K suffered this blackout. So it's not a common occurrence. This is what I read in the news though.
Unfortunately, people here can't take neither the decease nor the remedy to cure it. Simply put, they don't want blackouts but they also don't want to pay realistic rates.

yeah, it always makes the news here when Fernandez announces that he's freezing prices on goods too because Brazil used to do it in the 90s. It sucks, I don't know if we'll ever see LatAm free of populism and adopting economic stances that are at least pragmatic

Well, when Macri came and increased the prices, "certain" people started getting pissed off and rallying against him, but guess what power outages stopped. So people with a brain do understand that in order to have a proper infrastructure, you gotta pay for it and that if you don't, the money won't come out from elsewhere magically and that when there is a subsidy, the money you are not paying is still coming from somewhere else.
Alas, Macri lacked the balls to do what was necessary and started to lose control of the economy, specifically inflation. He only managed to control it a few months before the elections and by then it was too late because not only do people want a solution, they want it FAST, NOW, AVAILABLE YESTERDAY. In order to take control of our economy, you need to take unpopular measures (i.e removing subsidies) but if you do, you start losing "control" of the congress and you'll get fucked in the mid-term congressional elections. Because of that, Macri did it slowly, won the mid-term congressional elections but paid the price during the second half of his term and it ended up costing him the reelection.

Obviously our situation is not as bad right now but the fact that we went from 6th world economy to a state of stagflation in less than a decade shows how quick things can go to shit. And if the current administration was too dumb to get us out of 126th on the Doing Business rankings, the next few years under a renewed PT admin can get pretty bleak if they're not pragmatic
I never really understood how did the IMF thing happen with Macri? Were there other options for Macri other than taking the loan? About the midterm elections thing - personally I feel like we need some sort of Parlamentarism in south america, the only country that can make Presidentialism work is the US and their case is a very specific one since they only have two parties which are not all that different from each other. In South America's case it's a complete 180 in terms of politics every four years and there's no long term planning

i dont mind 35-40c but it really depends where i am or what im doing. I usually prefer colder weather these days, like 12-15c. In Melbourne we normally get a few 40c days or higher each Summer, but so far we haven't even come close. Yet we've had SO much rain.
