Countries imperialism helped
kennyS |

Imperialism has screwed over a bunch of countries but some that it helped were Hawaii easily (even if it wasn't really a country) germany and Japan after ww2, texas and south Korea during the Korean war Any other examples?

Annexation of Hawaii turned it into one of the most developed territories in the world Ally control of West Germany gave economic aid to a country that should have been screwed after ww2 US imperialism in Japan lead to greater rights for people and a democracy being set up while an emperor still got to maintain their position (like the queen of england) Texas would not be the #10 world economy gdp wise without the US

Maybe Texas and other American countries would have actually developed if there wasn't a big imperialist country fucking them up but that's just speculation

I would bet Native Hawaiians would disagree.

They were literally being taken advantage of by sugar companies which was a dying industry at the time once the market fizzled out Hawaii would be fucked if it wasn't annexed

But it’s economy being based on plantations was a result of British and Spanish imperialism, not just foolish planning on their part.

That's what I'm talking about bro they would not have gotten out of being exploited by the sugar market and their republic would have been very weak

But that’s already as a result of imperialism. You can justify imperialism by saying they were already screwed by imperialism so might as well do it again. That’s not how justification works my friend.

I heard native hawaiians are begging for outsiders to not move to the island, but I can't remember the reason, is that right?

We’ll just prior to being annexed, the Hawaii government had reformed from a hereditary monarchy, to a Republic where their elected leader was given the title “King” or “Queen”, so they were very much advanced for being a small collection of very isolated islands, and had suffered from British/Spanish imperialism in the past. And they were right to be fearful, since shortly after allowing Americans into the country, the U.S. supported a coup that resulted in the Republic being overthrown, and politicians who were anti-US being imprisoned including their “Queen”.

You couldn't be more incorrect they cooperated with us during ww2. Go learn history before you make such bullshit statements
2022-01-20 09:02
You are aware that Hawaii was actually a Republic with its own Constitution before the U.S. plotted a coup to overthrow their government, imprison their “Queen” (which the King/Queen was an elected official in Hawaii at the time, not a monarch) and annex it as a state right? They hadn’t been “tribes” for over a hundred years prior. Stop being xenophobic you weirdo.

I mean, it's depends on what you mean by helped haha I think the vast majority of Americans and Canadians would say fuck yeah thank god for the British, but I'd wager that the indigenous populations have something else to say...

Exactly. 99% of people now are obviously thankful for how events played out, but the dozens of Native American tribes, Natives of the Caribbean, the Aztecs, the Mayans, the Inca, the Australian Aborigines, etc, all had a significant portion, or all of their culture destroyed. It’s just most of them died out as a result so their opinions are lost to time.

Can you explain how the US screwed over Korea Other than the Korean War and post Korean War I don't really know any foreign relations between the US and korea
2022-01-20 00:28

Well it's not that USA screwed Korea directly it was the Korean war in which USA had strategic interests. And even if South Korea is pretty decent now the USA did create a really not decent dictatorship there at first

The other option was the northern dictatorship

What if they would have chosen it rather? They really didn't have options other than imperialists playing their own games on each side forcing them to choose or other Obviously they could have chosen something else if they would have been allowed to make their own decisions. Instead they were given two options

What if they would have chosen it rather? considering that their capital was taken and they still fought they clearly didnt want to be contorlled by communists and with hind sight if we just let north korea take over the south the entire nation would be a shithole
2022-01-20 11:19
I would add that for the first decades of South Korea's existence, it was under a very harsh dictatorship. For a long time actually NK out performed it. South Koreas success wasn't really just from American presence, though that helped in the long run.

I mean the British empire improved a load of countries under it's control, Zimbabwe being a great example it used to be the highest producer of food in all of Africa, then they wanted independence and the rest is history. A load of Indians really liked Queen Victory cuz she helped India with some shit to do with a group that were attacking India. But the bad outweighs the good mostly.

I'm sure Koreans appreciate that they lost 3 million lives, got separated and now other part lives under nuclear threat and other part in starving, truly thank you imperialism. Japan probably loves that they got nuked again thank you imperialism. Maybe next time think about a bit before you write stupid shit. B-but they got be-better rights. At what cost? Cost of millions of lives and being hostage of biggest dumbster in the world

Texas wasn't really a victim of imperialism in the same way Hawaii was. The Annexation was mostly a mutual thing. In fact, Texas had been petitioning for annexation since its independence, and it took 10ish years for the US to actually agree to it.

Colonialism can help to make some concrete developments like roads or businesses but it tends to poison the well for future stable government that is locally rooted. See southern italy for example.
