We’ll just prior to being annexed, the Hawaii government had reformed from a hereditary monarchy, to a Republic where their elected leader was given the title “King” or “Queen”, so they were very much advanced for being a small collection of very isolated islands, and had suffered from British/Spanish imperialism in the past. And they were right to be fearful, since shortly after allowing Americans into the country, the U.S. supported a coup that resulted in the Republic being overthrown, and politicians who were anti-US being imprisoned including their “Queen”.
Poor them, went from uga buga tribes to civilization.

You are aware that Hawaii was actually a Republic with its own Constitution before the U.S. plotted a coup to overthrow their government, imprison their “Queen” (which the King/Queen was an elected official in Hawaii at the time, not a monarch) and annex it as a state right? They hadn’t been “tribes” for over a hundred years prior. Stop being xenophobic you weirdo.

Exactly. 99% of people now are obviously thankful for how events played out, but the dozens of Native American tribes, Natives of the Caribbean, the Aztecs, the Mayans, the Inca, the Australian Aborigines, etc, all had a significant portion, or all of their culture destroyed. It’s just most of them died out as a result so their opinions are lost to time.

I would add that for the first decades of South Korea's existence, it was under a very harsh dictatorship. For a long time actually NK out performed it. South Koreas success wasn't really just from American presence, though that helped in the long run.

I mean the British empire improved a load of countries under it's control, Zimbabwe being a great example it used to be the highest producer of food in all of Africa, then they wanted independence and the rest is history. A load of Indians really liked Queen Victory cuz she helped India with some shit to do with a group that were attacking India. But the bad outweighs the good mostly.

Texas wasn't really a victim of imperialism in the same way Hawaii was. The Annexation was mostly a mutual thing. In fact, Texas had been petitioning for annexation since its independence, and it took 10ish years for the US to actually agree to it.
Colonialism can help to make some concrete developments like roads or businesses but it tends to poison the well for future stable government that is locally rooted. See southern italy for example.
My man, the US backed a series of military dictatorships in South Korea until 1987. What are you talking about? Look up things like the Gwangju massacre.
