I believe life is short, so I stunt it

For me, it depends on the way other person does it, I would want a friendly conversation, not offensive and judgemental

Just contradiction? Not automatically. Presented with proof, yes. When facts change, my opinion changes.

factish - A scientific "fact" whose power is believed in, but which is ultimately a construction, just as fetishes are constructions believed to hold spiritual powers.

Yes that's the only way to evolve, but most people seem to be hardstuck in their old beliefs and instead get hostile or pretend not to hear or see when presented with informations that contradict their beliefs

just presenting info doesnt prove anything people should always be sceptical thats how we evolve
2022-01-26 16:08

Did I say that? Of course you should be sceptical, but you shouldn't claim that sceptical is the same as straight up being hostile or blind towards contradicting information, how would you ever know which side is true if that's your way of handling new information presented to you?

Handling it with scepticism doesnt mean you won't agree with it or that you can't take on new information. It just means you wont blindly trust it and you might be double checking on it. Also depending on the sources or methods, on how you obtain that info and being sceptical of those doesnt prevent retaining and accepting it either. We evolve when we discover new stuff that is relevant not when we accept the status quo

Correct and I never claimed that you should blindly trust or follow anything at all, so I'm not sure why you even bring it up in the first place. We evolve by being presented with a bunch of shit and then sift through the bs until we find answers / solutions that work better then previous ones or find completely new ways of doing / understanding things, which by definition evolves us from the past state to its current form.

It's not weak per se but I can change my opinion if I'm presented with facts that disprove my beliefs.

After some analysis I might be persuaded. Although if the beliefs in question don't have a strong foundation they will likely crumble

On the very rare occasion that I am wrong, I will concede it, because I'm not a moron. Knowledge is power and being stubborn achieves nothing except lowers everyone's opinion of you as well as making you less knowledgeable about such matters. Anti-vaxxers, anti-maskers, and religious people are deluded as hell.

Nobody does that. If you want to change somebodys mind on something really important and personal you either have to rely on a catastrophic event or a steady stream of information. This is why these great changes in society only happen when there is a catastrophic event or the countering force manages to get a established presents in the peoples lives. You can see that with boomers that watch mainstream media all day. If you manage to win an argument against them and wait 2 months you will have to start from scratch again. Same goes for lefty university students or neonazi´s in their groups.

It has nothing to do with being weak or strong. It has to do with being stubborn. If there's a discussion and the other party provides hard facts to prove their point, of course I will concede. I'd look like an idiot otherwise. If there's a discussion based on opinion, I could be persuaded to change my mind but it depends on a lot of things. 1. The case the other party makes. 2. How strong my opinion is on the subject whether by determination or by the amount of sheer knowledge I have on the topic. 3. HOW the other party presents their case.

When i was younger i was way firmer in my beliefs and opinions. I have become way better in that department with the years, but noone is free from predjudice and bias. It also strongly depends on the subjects. For instance i have a lot harder taking in new facts in areas where i have a special interest. (Biology/fishing/hunting/wildlife/fishery management for example, in which i have years of studies and experience, and thus a more developed bias).
