I don't. I'm just aware that there is a championship there called "The International" which will pay 45 million dollars on prize pools in 2022 while CS just had a great major who just payed 1 million. Cool huh?

Lots of people who play it? I still have more hours in dota than in cs. I quit it 3 months ago tho. Last straw was when the whole community waited half a year for a patch and the patch came and basically changed nothing. Cool. Screw that game now indeed.

More people watch Dota than cs dingus.

Arguments: -CSGO never been so popular than it is now, A 10 YEAR OLD GAME -People used to say that valve gave Dota so much attention because there was LOL as a "competitor", now CS has Valulrant as a competitor, if they wanna destroy the competition just do a TI and gg ez -Do a TI case and put like 30% of its profits as the prize for the TI, you can get the other 70% and it surely would be the most popular case in the game just because of the community wishing to support the Championship -You need more?

Valve may be losing in the Dota vs LOL but they are dominating in the CS vs Valorant, why not assert their dominance in this second "fight" with what they do best in the other one? bigass prize pools

Higher prize pool means more interest by investors + orgs, so its good for the scene in general.

a stable e-sports with the backing of valve would make a much bigger difference look how well the scene is doing for riot with small prize pools.

argument against: - TI completely fucked up dota's pro ecosystem because it over time became the only relevant tournament, teams live and die on their TI placings alone unlike in CS where the (more frequent) majors, alongside tournies like Cologne, Katowice, EPL and blast world finals share this responsibility

I'm not a Dota fan so I'm not aware of all the details but you have to agree with me that this prize pools in cs are a joke when compared to Dota, a much "smaller" game. They could meet it halfway, improve the Majors prize with some case profits backing it up but not let it be enormous to overshadow other championships

They did it because of the pandemics and the time without majors, just a way of compensation. But now looks like we are back to normal

You have already viewer pass and stickers that goes 50% to teams and players. According to some insights (that could be wrong) players can get around 200k and teams around 2M each, if you do your maths you'll see that + the prize pool it means Volvo give like 20M to players+teams, which is not as good as Dota, but it helps more different teams to get nice income.

They could continue with the majors and do the TI once a year or every 2 years, or do the case thing for the majors, would work as well

Having the TI and the Majors would make the Major less relevant.

Dota has the majors and the TI, sure it would make the majors less relevant but the community would gain anyways, you win a TI you are made 4 life, it would be a big thing

The international, the championship that happens in Dota2 that pays a shitload of money every year. We could have that in CSGO. Check #5

why would you want this? look at dota and how shut off the open circuit is. if it weren't for ESL running the majors or minors (whatever they are) dota would be in such shit shape throughout the year (except for the international ofc) i'd much rather have the crazy schedule and openness that we have. money is awesome but having important games all year long is far more important (and entertaining) than having one huge tournament once a year
2022-05-23 00:36
Probably won't work in CS. Playerbase isn't large enough. Also if Valve wanted to do something like a TI for CSGO - they would have done it a couple of years ago when CSGO was still popular in NA and SEA.. Now more and more players in these countries have switched to Valorant - so having it now, won't be a lucrative thing for Valve.. Also last TI was mehhhh.. No crowd made it look like an ordinary tournament. The prestige wasn't there at all, imo. Hopefully this year in Singapore - they can fill up the stadium and have a good TI..

also having TI in October is also a very very big mehh! It is right after the Summer vacations and stuff.. The only reason TI worked in the past was because it took place in Summers (before the start of school year) - so many youngsters travelled to these events..
2022-05-23 00:36
Never, Gaben likes dota, dota2 is more popular at all regions, dota2 has more content to make and etc....

They don't need to make the international then, just make something so the community can contribute with the prize pool for majors like what happens with Dota TI's
2022-05-23 00:41
Stop comparing Dota it's a dead game, literally that 1 big event keeps that game alive and because of it nobody cares what happens for the rest of the year. CS should have 3 Majors per year + world final for the top 8. This is what keeps the game alive and those big tournaments have a high perceived value and prestige as well. Otherwise it's just too hard for good teams to win a Major, imagine now after Faze winning that nothing big comes up for a whole year? Too cruel for all of the teams and very draining. The prize pool can be larger but it shouldn't be too big. Sure casual players can spend tons of money on knives and other skins so if the last event, the world final was to be crowd funded that could break the prize pool record... But there could also be a huge consequence for that, the top team would become filthy rich and then it's possible that the pro scene would lose amazing young talents like B1t and so on... If B1t wins a crowd funded World Final CS Go event and wins 5m dollars, as a 19-20 year old he would definitely stop try-harding as much, same goes for the 21-22 year olds like Twistz, Broky, Rops. Too high prize pool can kill the passion. This game is amazing because of guys like Rain that kept going, if today's final had a prize pool of 15m dollars we might have all lost insane talent of Faze due to them simply not being dedicated to the game anymore, obviously every person is unique but so much money does change the way the person reacts towards the game, not everyone would do like KennyS and just start streaming cause to hell with it he's rich now but when OG won the International for the second time they accomplished something that nobody did it prior and most of those players automatically retired.

You made great points, the 3 majors + world finals is a good idea and this world finals could be the equivalent to the TI I don't agree with the "scene losing young talents" thing 'cause probably the opposite would happen, every org would be searching for the best possible line-ups so they would try to develop the young talents better since csgo is a game that the younger you are, the better is your aim, that could not be the best thing for the older guys like the Karrigans or the Fallens but we don't know that either. Clearly you know better what happens in the Dota scene than me but I really find it unfair that valve treat these 2 games so different.

True, more money would attract more players to tryhard, I'm not against a crowd funded prize pool but I'm sure Valve can also increase the prize pool by 1-2m without losing anything.
