I feel sometimes, this OT is kind if bad. It takes away a lot of energy from you because every round is kind of do or die.
Why not change it to something more interesting like there will be no OT. If the map is a draw then it is a draw. But if the bo3 is tied, play a short compy on the map which was not part of selected maps. Eg if the selected maps are Inferno, Nuke and Overpass, then you have to play short compy as a decider on Dust 2 or Vertigo or Ancient or Mirage.
In case short compy also gets tied, make the map like a who ever reaches first to the 8 rounds takes the series.
Sounds like a very uneccessary way to do it. I dont think this makes things better or more fair.

But OT is nice, it builds tensiom, its close, exciting, stressful. And it has mostly fullbuys (depends on the OT money different TOs use). Imo the games dont have to be shorter

well you cant always watch 3 maps with like 20 rounds of OT in a row but when its like a playoffs game, maybe even on stage, OT is just exciting, heartbreaking, mistakes are made etc etc

Agree. What could be done is only OT on the 3rd map and using a point system.
A win and win = 4 points
A draw and a draw means we go to 3rd map with OT winning 3rd map = 3 points
A draw and win = 2 points
A draw and a loss = 1 point
A loss on both maps = 0 points
This way the matches are also decided fairly always by a winner.
Rewarding but also punishing for letting it go to 15-15.
Point system resembles the better teams in the bracket.
Tough route means there is still a point to gather from a draw.

I had a similar thought with points a long time ago but a bit different.
These apply on bo3
Whoever reach 4 points or more wins the series.
first 2 maps we can have a tie, decider map no tie (so OT only on decider)
win = 2 points
tie = 1 point
decider map win = 3 points
so..
TEAM A WIN, TEAM A WIN 4 points
--------------------------------------
TEAM A WIN, TEAM A TIE = 3 (2+1)
TEAM B LOSE, TEAM B TIE = 1 (0 +1)
whoever takes decider map takes the series (TEAM A 3+3=6 or TEAM B 1+3=4)
--------------------------------------
TEAM A TIE, TEAM A TIE = 2
TEAM B TIE, TEAM B TIE = 2
whoever takes decider map takes the series by same logic, 2+3 =5

I don't like the idea that map 3 is worth 'more' so to speak in that myself. No map win should be worth less than any other to me.

Theres two sides to this. Getting to the 3rd is only possible now if the first two end by draw. So good for the team that managed to get to 15-15.
Bad for the other that couldnt close it out.
Overall on the bracket this will fine tune the deserved teams from the rest to go through with more accuracy compared to now.
Amazing tension if the deciding map which is suppose to be the middle ground for both teams would go to OT.
Compared to football a map in any bo3 could be viewed now as halftime.
The decider map is overtime with actual overtime if it doesnt get closed out in regulation.
There is more goals or point to be earned for both teams in such a close match.
But only 1 point more.
A complete stamp out so a 2:0 victory still earns the most points though.
It is the 15-15 results that does it.

By the example given, a team could win a map and draw the other, then still lose the series overall because they lose map 3.
For me, if it is a result and a tie after 2, it should be over in favour of the team that got the win. Map 3 only comes in if it's 2 ties, or 1-1 like now.

But OT has a different feeling to it. Change sides every 3 rounds, first to 4 wins, no ecos and semibuys, the teams running out of strats and setups so they have to implement new ones on the fly or repeat old ones

Odd number of rounds is unfair towards one team, will never ever happen. I like that you share a new idea here but im sorry to say that it doesnt work like you wanted it to:)

Odd number could not be a deciding factor though, but may be only allow OTs in the decider map. It will be more thrilling when everything is at stake in the decider. The main reason if I admit, it kind of become monotonous when you see all events of Blast, ESL and IEM in almost the same format leaving aside brackets and all these good teams play each other too frequently. You could recall how much Gambit and NaVi played against each other in very short duration of time. That kind of snatches away the thrill of two titans colliding. So different type of bo3 may put different kind of advantages to different kind of teams and you can always see very diverse kind of CS

One of the editions of counter strike actually had hostages who would try to sneak to the hostage rescue point, and if a T encountered the hostage who was trying to sneak to the rescue point, the hostage would apologize and go back to his spawn point
(I think it was condition zero).

Yea it's stupidly fun. Condition Zero was liked all that much, but I played it specifically for those hostage maps
If it was CZ, they probably did that as it was single player anyway and didn't matter as much. Can't have RNG like that in a proper competitive match though. That's why the train on Overpass had its timing standardised, it screwed a couple of teams over when it used to be random.

How come I say opposite? I only intend to say that every round is something you cannot lose because there are only 6 rounds. Thats very exhaustive in nature. i kinda like the idea of something other, but defo not your idea. like why should it be played out on another map?
im thinking of something similar to penalties in football. like a 4v3 bombside take or retake haha idk would be funny if its something different than "just more rounds"

I thought about other map because it will throw extra spice into it. You choosing one of the map from 3 maps kind of work in someone's favour and even the last map too. From the banned out 4 maps both the teams could agree on which map they want decider.
But retake part will be funny or something like shotgun only or Zeus and knife only or deagle only.

I think its the most fair way to do tiebreaks personally. Like any statpadding kind of thing like aim duels, who had the highest no of kills/rating etc would be cringe. Another map could be advantageous to one team and disadvantageous to another. How will the map itself be picked. If the map is picked by a coin toss. That itself is luck based.

theres no such thing as mutually decide, in a best of 3, only 4 maps will be left, 2 of them will be each teams perma bans so obv getting any of them picked would be bad. THe other ban for each team is usually their 2nd worst map, or opponents best/2nd best map. How would they decide between the remaining two maps. This process also will take extra time anyway, deciding the map, getting the map into the server, getting the players logged in etc etc.

The best teams are good on every map, its just that some of them are better than others on specific maps. But that doesnt mean they are bad. Just look at faze mappool, navis mappool etc. They can trash you on any map (but vertigo) so they can ppay 6/7 maps

I agree with your point bro. See, there was this concept of Golden ball in football also. Who so ever scored first post full time wins the match. But if no one scores the match goes on. It was tiring and exhausting. They switched it to extra time then penalties. OT is something similar. It kind of end quickly or can take all eternity.

I really dont get your problem with overtime, golden goal and this are completely differnt thing, not scoring a goal on either side is possible forever, but CS is different, A team is bound to lose or win a round. Rarely does it go 3-3. Thats why most of the OTS end on the first itself. Why do you want to change a completely fair way system to something less fair just cuz it stresses out the pros. I dont see pros complaining about OT as annoying. Its a part of the game. Your way will literally take up more time. Honestly I just see it as a way for you to get to see all 3 maps played whenever a 15-15 happens and nothing else.

That is the point of bigger map pool. Map pool does not mean whether you play on that map or not, its about how you perform on that map. If a Team has 40% WR on map 1, then that map is not a part of their map pool. Map pool means your WR is good at that map. Also in pick and ban, if you have bigger map pool you tend to ban the opponents best map pick. If any team is extremely good at Inferno and someone bans that map, it is not necessarily due to fact that they are bad at that map. Sometimes you make sure your opponent does not have their best map in picked maps. That all is a chess game. And if you change the rules team have to adapt themselves to win that competition. If you stick in the same format for years that means you are too comfortable in that format and not allowing any change. My point is not to make change for change sake, the point is to bring something new on table. Until there is something new, nobody will adapt and evolve

And OT changing up is not the way to change it, making something less fair just to bring about change is stupid. If you want people to have a wider map pool, just play Best of 5's, people wont have a wider map pool just for on the rare occasions they get to OT, you underestimate the work done on a map to make it part of your pool and even still it wont ever match up if it is your 5th best even wit ha good wr against those who main it in their preferred 3. Another way to get wider map pools is to change up maps for each event. Like every tournament only allows 5/7 maps to be played etc. with a different 5 maps in rotation everytime. That will actually force teams to practice on every map hard, tho its unrealistic and borderline crazy and I wouldnt want it. But doing changes to OT just for this is stupid.

If the map is a draw it should go down to the following;
Rounds Won As T
Rounds Won as CT
This would ultimately change the tactics employed during the first 15 rounds of a match as teams try and win as many T rounds as possible, It may stop all the T5v3CT saves that currently take place....
It would probably lead to teams focusing on playing storng CT sided maps first to limit the amount of T rounds that could be won before halftime.
Ideas like this would be best tested out in a tier 2/3 tournament to start with though.
I am sure there a loads of ideas out there but the tension and stress that OT provides does make for great viewing so not sure how much it needs changing....
If it gets to 3rd OT perhaps go to AIM MAP USP??? Ha.

I dont think a round tiebreaker in cs is fair (economy, pistol rounds etc). Also how would that change the meta, teams are always trying to get as many T and CT rounds as possible lmao
Also why does everyone want teams to go for 3v5 retakes, the chances are so slim, lets say its a one in a 1000 kind of thing. Would be boring af imo cause in the next round instead of having a good buy you are on eco.
Do you know that two teams have a draw when they get the same amout of rounds on each side right?

Imo Big no...OTs especially in elimination matches are more or less the most intense and interesting moments.

what happens if the map is a teams permaban? theres a reason teams ban maps against each other and reach a veto on 1, 3 or 5 maps played. this would be like the random map veto that nobody used because they realized how shit it is. Overtimes are stressful but thats just part of the game
