Probably poor regions and slums are only dangerous as long as you don't get idea to walk out without tour you should be fine atleast this is how Poland looked after communism
2022-05-24 21:02
it's pretty safe
just don't cluelessly hang around with your phone and pay attention to your surroundings, have common sense
2022-05-24 21:10
just dont go to the upper parts of the city.
2022-05-24 21:03
It depends the part of the city you're talking about. Most probably you'll stay in the safest zone, which where are located the hotels, bars and other touristic attractions. The biggest threat for someone like u is being a dumb tourist using your iphone or camera in the middle of the street and most probably you're gotta be robbed easily.
2022-05-24 21:04
the neighborhood in which the major will be held is safe, but it is always valid to stay alert as everywhere you go in the world, here it is not a war zone as most people think
2022-05-24 21:07
Bring some old phones as decoys for when you get robbed.
2022-05-24 21:08
i like how non brazillians are answering this question like they know what they are talking about lmfao
like how everyone in this society has opinions for things they have no idea about :D
2022-05-24 21:12
Imagine going to an event in another country, try to have some fun and you can't even take a picture, or call someone in the street. There was so many cities they could make this happen in brazil and they choose rio
2022-05-24 21:14
man I dont know Brazil hosted a 2016 olympics , 2014 WORLD CUP,I dont know if its safe to host a event this big like a cs go major.... u better not come
2022-05-24 21:14
rich areas are saffe, its the case.
2022-05-24 21:17
Dont walk in the street during night, dont use phone while outside, use uber, thats it
2022-05-24 21:21
just walk in the main avenue next to the beaches and don't stay with your phone all the time, and it'll be fine. But in general Rio is one of the most dangerous cities in BR
2022-05-24 21:22
yes brazil isn't saffest than europenas and 1 world countrys. Dude, we literally have the major community and we didn't have ANY tornament in what, 3 years? Plz means, brasil got a hard life, we don't use to get a lot of thouse things here.
Come if u want yo enjoy some mix culture, don't cry over a 3rd world contry that have a lot of issues, we know how it is, if u don't want to have problems u can stay where u are! U can be robbed here, but is not like that easy. The point is, brasil is a 3rd world contry, so maybe u can get fucked, but most likely not. Btw u will enjoy a lot of good ppl that loves gringos, come and party with us!!!
2022-05-24 21:24
on the region that its going to happen, which is on the arena, its very safe, Barra da Tijuca, atleast close to it
but this place is far from the favelas, which are the most dangerous area, atleast some favelas, others are good
2022-05-24 21:27
in tourist areas it is considered safe, just don't take anything of value with you and most likely nothing will happen.
2022-05-24 21:28
go to favela and say hi to Adriano!!!!
2022-05-24 21:30
How easy is it to get from the Airport to the area of the stadium? Since its like on the other side of the City and I cont know any about Public transport in Brazil?
2022-05-24 21:31
As long as you don't get too drunk that you can't think anymore or walk into a favela you'll be fine.
2022-05-24 21:32
My whitest of whitest and most European of European friends went for 6 weeks to Brazil to backpack and he wasn't robbed despite him looking like a cash automat (polo/suits, fancy cloths etc..) so u should be fine.
2022-05-24 21:32
I lived in Rio for six years, during these years I was robbed only one time, during the exit of an sport event, while trying to protect some woman with her 2 infants of some massive fight ocurring on the entrance of the public transportation (specifically, their train station).
Other than this time, what I used to do is to never look kinda lost, never walk on poorly light streets and I always kept my head up, like I'd be noticing my surroundings and its suspicious activities and behaviours. This makes those bad people choose to not make you an target, simply because there are easier targets.
2022-05-24 21:33
Very dangerous for tourists
I got robbed twice in Rio for real
2022-05-24 21:37
who ever eliminates brazil teams they are not leaving brazil
2022-05-24 21:38
Bring security. At least 3 bodyguards
2022-05-24 21:39
- wear normal clothes, nothing fancy or expensive, just a shirt and some jeans or shorts.
- do not use watches or smartphones
- be careful where you step, and try to stay alert to your surroundings
2022-05-24 21:42
I lived in Rio for 20 years, the last 3 on a dangerous neighboorhood, never been mugged once
Back when I lived on more affluent neighborhoods I felt super safe, sure there are plenty of criminal occurrences but it is overwhelmingly concentrated on favelas and poorer neighborhoods, on the more up class places theres tons of police patroling nonstop plus private security on every outlet and condo
ATM I am living right next to a very dangerous favela, and I have heard many gunfights, but since the neighborhood itself is not complete garbage, theres TONS of police cars blocking all the exits of the favela, and patroling the neighborhood nonstop, the violence is very concentrated in the favelas and immediately adjacent streets, if you are a tourist you will NEVER EVER have any reason to come even remotely close to a place like this
As a tourist you are at a much much higher risk of being overcharged for food at the beach than being mugged or suffering any kind of molestation at the hands of criminals
If you read up on the cases where gringos come here and it ends bad for them its usually people who insisted on traveling alone, didnt have a friend/guide to help them visit "exotic" places and violated basic common sense rules that keep you safe in a foreign land
All that said, Rio is safe for tourists, the arena is in a safe location, and due to the Dollar/euro exchange rates most foreigners will be surprised at how fucking cheap everything top class is gonna be for them, hotels, ubers, food, great nightlife, hookers, drugs, etc. You will live like fucking kings
You will be able to afford premium hotels at the beach and it will cost as much as a shitty room in belgium, the places you will be staying with be super fucking safe, everything is gonna be fine, and there will be tons of hot brazilian girls dying to have some gringo dick in the hopes of making you fall in love and taking them away from this shithole ... i mean wonderful city
Come to Rio
2022-05-24 21:42
I HOPE they never host a major in brazil, i dont want travel there for someone to run in the arena with ak-47 shooting everyone in the arena
2022-05-24 21:43
its pretty safe just dont wear gold or airpods and no bags or watch and dont trust uber its a scam/setup and dont or walk after 6pm
2022-05-24 21:43
Rio it's pretty safe, just don't go there and you will be ok.
2022-05-24 21:47
Not safe at all. Im from Belo Horizonte and Im traveling to rio on an Armoured car.
Will be visiting only the arena and hotel.
2022-05-24 21:55
ahhh RIo
someone gonna get shot and robbed
players coming to the scene gonna be spitted in the face
2022-05-24 21:55
All my family on my mother side lives in Rio. They pretty mutch never got assaulted, robbed, gun pointed in their entire lives. How they did that? Just avoid the already known dangerous places. In fact, my grandmother got assaulted her first time in a small town that I live in, the woman has 80+ years. Rio is dangerous? Yes, but you can get around safely. My advice is, ask your hotel staff or your airbnb host where to go and how to go and you should be fine.
2022-05-24 22:07
Today I was walking around the city center (I'm from Rio) and I ran into a group of tourists (probably americans)...
They seemed to be having a lot of fun :)
Also I've never met a foreigner that came to Rio and had a bad experience.
2022-05-24 22:40
safer than detroit but more dangerous than LA
2022-05-24 22:55
in the rich part of it where is gonna be the major probably is safe, its not all that bad as people think
2022-05-24 22:59
BuddyINSANE might rob you
2022-05-24 23:08
All the favela complexes are dangerous, but outside of that in the South Zone is as safe as any big city in the world.
2022-05-24 23:15
Learn Portuguese, dye hair and make it hella short, buy some fresh Oakley's and get some fresh br league football team shirt. EZ safety anywhere in br.
2022-05-24 23:20
not safe if youre white or clearly not from the area
2022-05-24 23:21
How safe is the USA that's the real question here, I've heard a lot of school shooters out there, You need to worry about your own country and then talk about others.
2022-05-24 23:27
Is not safe if you are Thorin
2022-05-24 23:36
To go to the major? safe enough
If you plan on knowing the whole city you'll need some locals to brief you on stuff
2022-05-24 23:49
Well the country as any other place in the world has safer areas and some not that safe areas... I live in the south and 99% of the things the other Brazilians said do not apply here, nor anywhere else really, Rio and São paulo are special cases because they are the biggest cities and may have high rates of violence depending on the area, my opinion is: you'll be totally fine as long as you don't go on traveling across the city (which is big af), you won't be robbed for having your smartphone out of the pocket or smth like that, but as in any other place on earth... just be a normal human being and beware of strange people;;;
2022-05-24 23:54
it's not very safe.. u will have to be very alert at your surroundings, people will try to rob you if they see ur not local (depends on the place on rio tho, some places are safer than others ofc) there are slums or favelas that you should not go, alot of drug dealers and weapons, stay on the big centers on the cities and ur safer there
2022-05-25 00:01
its pretty safe unless you go to poor regions, really... you guys should go it will be an amazing experience
2022-05-25 00:29
The worst place in Brazil
2022-05-25 00:36
Just don't go into the "favelas" and don't walk around with your cell phone in your hand all the time
2022-05-25 00:51
dont go to favelas and you will be in a normal 7kk people city, with the pros and cons that a 7kk people city have
plus its a tourist city so thats increase the pros and cons
i know people that was robbed in paris and never was robbed in rio
just dont expect that will be safe and peaceful like Copenhagen or Toronto
2022-05-25 01:11
when i went there during carnival in 2018 it was more dangerous but that's cause they also target tourists much more during those times, when i went the first two times for surfing & kitesurfing in 2015 & 2016 it wasn't all that bad, also never open doors in hotels late in the evening regardless of who says is knocking on the door is what hotelstaff told me back than.
2022-05-25 01:14
Not safe, so thats why everyone let imperial win this major
2022-05-25 01:16
You should probably wait for next major. Tickets will be sold out within minutes and the casting will be only in portuguese.
2022-05-25 01:24
if you dont meddle with drugs and stay out of dangerous areas you should be fine... That being said, it is regarded as the worst state of Brazil in terms of violence, i have no idea why they didnt choose São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Porto Alegre, Curitiba...
2022-05-25 01:43
its not safe
hope it helped
2022-05-25 01:41
safe enough for you to go from the airport to a hotel and from the hotel to the arena.
2022-05-25 01:42
meeh, just dont look like a fool walking around...if you see someone suspicious make eye contact, they'll target another one who looks down and scared
2022-05-25 01:47
tbh I'm from Brazil and not going to Major because its RIO, it's a shit place if any of you guys come please Arena to Hotel, Hotel to Arena, don't fucking walk outside because everyone can distinct a foreigner and you will be mugged.
2022-05-25 02:03
If you enter in the "wrong" favela you may just die. That's the level of violence. Other than that, the tourist areas are quieter. Just don't be silly. The maximum violence in these areas is robbery and theft.
2022-05-25 02:04
I was robbed in Paris and not in Rio @ Rio 2016
2022-05-25 02:09
It's one of the worst regions in the country. If Brazil has a bad reputation, Rio de Janeiro plays a big part in this.
The locals are impolite and they'll always try to take advantage of you.
Don't go to the beach with your cellphone and wallet, some 14yo will probably rob you.
Don't go for long walks at night, you will get robbed.
Don't ask for police help, either they are corrupt or in a fucked up mental state.
And don't visit favelas if you value your life.
2022-05-25 02:13
My daughter went to rio and they stole her purse in there.
Never again anyone from my family is going there.
2022-05-25 02:21
Specially in the vicinity of Jeneusse Arena (Barra da Tijuca and JAcarepagua) very safe.
2022-05-25 03:15
I live in brazil, im still scared bout that place
2022-05-25 03:21
i think manila is safer idk
2022-05-25 03:23
In general its ok, like everywhere in brazil you must know the area you are in, one neighborhood can be totaly fine, while in another you can get shot
2022-05-25 03:32
You will be fine as long as you hide the fact that you're a foreigner
2022-05-25 03:36
Barra da Tijuca is one of the safest places in Rio (except on the beach). It's easy to get to Jeunesse Arena.
Survival guide 101: don't use your phone while walking on the beach.
2022-05-25 03:37
You likely won't be robbed, trust me. Just remember some rules:
1 - no hanging around with expensive stuff (it includes cellphones, keep it in your pocket or bag)
2 - don't go to favelas, it's dangerous mostly.
3 - be alert of your surroundings
4 - don't walk at night
that's it. that's how i've never been robbed so far.
2022-05-25 03:47
Today, 21 killed in latest police raid on Rio favela, why not sao paolo?
2022-05-25 03:53
I'm carioca (native of Rio de Janeiro), I can help you foreigners who come to watch the Major. We've set up a meeting point at the airport, and you guys leave your credit cards and cell phones with me for safekeeping, as I already know the tricks. When you need something, just wait for me at the same meeting point at the airport and I'll show up.
2022-05-25 04:14
I’m not from Brazil and have never left Europe. But I’d probably say that finding a local friend is your best bet for enjoying the most of your trip. If I’ll somehow save some money I’d really love to come there myself
2022-05-25 08:28
Extremely safe, just don't go outside, or talk to anyone, or carry any money with you.
2022-05-25 08:30
This is what I’ve learned from this thread:
1. Its a very very safe place.
2. Walk only in centre. Dont walk at night. Dont drink. Always look around. Pay attention to your surroundings. Dont take anything with you (no phone, no money, no watches).
2022-05-25 10:06
Pretty safe, enjoy your trip PepeLaugh
2022-05-25 10:19
Conference League final in Tirana LOL
2022-05-25 10:24
I have hearing aids should I be careful to wear them? They were pretty expensive :D
2022-05-25 11:04
For tourists?
its 1/8
I've been there 2 times and alot of my friends were there. None of em have positive things to say
2022-05-25 11:05
Stop being so scared lmao , just dont piss the wrong ppl and u are good dude
2022-05-25 11:06
given that hiko had to get bodyguards for a tournament in brazil
not safe
2022-05-25 11:09
Is it safe if i bring my jewelry, around 200g of 18k gold
I never leave them but i'm scared
2022-05-25 11:09
safer than gun haven aka USA
2022-05-25 11:09
Good thread to learn about how absolutely fucked brazil is in terms of poverty and security in relation to that. I'm not visiting.
2022-05-25 11:10
depends on how touristy you look, i am from Rio tho i live in the UK now and every Brazilian in Rio carries a knife or shiv to be prepared for the worst, as a tourist you need to adapt and carry a weapon but aside from that do not look like a tourist and you should be fine
2022-05-25 11:17
I dont have balls to visit either Brazil or Middle East
2022-05-25 11:26
ain't this thread 404 already ?
2022-05-25 12:09
Rio de Janeiro is considered a paradise for tourism.
If you inform yourself well and know where to go, you won't have any problems.
Avoid favelas if this is your first time visiting the city, always be aware of what is happening around you and take precautions that any visitor should take anywhere in the world such as: do not display expensive material goods, do not buy products on the street that you don't know, don't go into suspicious places like slums and empty streets, keep your distance from homeless people and beggars and keep in mind where to find information posts for tourists in case of need.
If you have a friend who lives in Rio de Janeiro, it would be smart to ask him to guide you around the city or to refer you to someone of trust, if necessary, pay some commission (dollars and euros are very strong in Brazil), have a native accompanying you can save you a lot of money and avoid unpleasant situations like harassment from street vendors and scammers.
2022-05-25 12:12
You guys all talk about this major meanwhile there is going to be new pandemic at autumn and there will be no public again mark my words its sad tho
2022-05-25 13:58
do not use your phone on the street
2022-05-25 14:07
been there a handful of times and never really felt unsafe
odds are bit higher than other places but just use your brain...
even went to favela du vidigal to go up a mountain for view and everything was fine
2022-05-25 14:22
if people exist, then its safe
2022-05-25 15:05
Its safe bruh don`t worry
Rio is divided, there is the poor region and the ``rich region`` which is close to the arena
You are safe coming here but you need to always keep an eye out
2022-05-25 15:19
if you stay at the south part of Rio, it's ok!
2022-05-25 17:22
I don't care. I m going there to watch amazing csgo and find myself juicy mamasita!
2022-05-25 18:07
Safer than the Texas schools apparently. Such tragedy.
2022-05-25 19:06
I'm 23 years old, I'm from Rio, I've never been robbed, you just need to be careful not to enter the favelas and you'll be safe in the most touristy neighborhoods
2022-05-25 19:18
Its kinda sad to read some stuff you guys been posting about RIO. Once, any of you get there (if you attend), you will probably feel a little weird, because all the way from the airport to that suburb might be a bit dangerous and not so good looking.
Once you get there:
i would recommend you to stay in Barra da Tijuca OR close. It is insanely nice, full of bars, events, beautiful people (you are gonna remember that), there is also a nice beach. It's a rich area, you wont have ANY problems with security. There are lots of things to do there too. The accommodations are great, the food is incredibly good in Brazil. Everything in an affordable price.
Just search it on google and stop making excuses. If you don't want to come, them don't do it, loose the opportunity to go to the best major ever. cya
2022-05-25 19:41
youre actually insane and suicidal if you even want to go to rio
2022-05-25 20:03
It is OK, it will only be dangerous if you go way out of tourist areas late.
2022-05-25 20:11
to be honest, you can't be safe in public. fo'real
and if you came to close to favelas, thugs will shoot you, cuz they don't know you. just that!
rio de janeiro aka hell de janeiro. trust me, be safe
2022-05-25 20:15
not safe at all, its not so good
2022-05-25 21:25
I live in Rio, in Copacabana which is a tourist area. It's is ok here lots of people on the street! No need to be super paranoid, enjoy! with you want any tips send me PM
2022-05-25 22:36
It's super safe now. You can travel, use your iPhone or even read at your iPad/MacBook in the streets.
2022-05-25 22:39
I guess if you have no pocket money and a mastercard - you'll be fine.
2022-05-26 15:57
just don't be stupid and you'll be fine.
2022-05-30 22:00
Brazilians coping so hard in this thread
"Don't use your phone in public, don't wear watches, don't dress 'rich', don't go out, be aware of your surroundings 24/7"
Do you really want to go through the hassle of constantly worrying about your safety and turn a situation where you're supposed to have fun in a stressful situation? Don't risk dying in a shithole for CS. Just watch from home and wait for an opportunity to attend a major in a country that doesn't has as many deaths per year as regions in war. kkkkk
2022-05-30 22:08
It was fine in the tourist areas but yeah you never know
2022-05-30 22:09
please EU don't go to Brazil we want a good crowd for once!
2022-06-04 18:43
Safest place in the world
2022-06-04 18:44
real counter strike in favels
op better go there de_acient 24/7
2022-06-04 19:03
I honestly don't see the point of going if the entire casting/hosting inside the arena would be Portuguese.
There would be 99% Brazilians so won't understand much conversations here and there.
Better would be like going to Rio as a vacation, spending some time on beaches and resorts, enjoy their culture as a tourist and as a side-day a major. Maybe that's a better way to go about it.
2022-06-04 19:14
Reykjavik Majors 2023 let's go!
2022-06-04 19:17
I immediately guessed the flag, and I was correct.
2022-06-04 19:18
Imagine its not too bad until BR get knocked out of the major KEKW
2022-06-04 23:07
The place where the major will be held is safe (Barra da Tijuca/Recreio/Jacarepaguá). Be aware, learn some words in portuguese and you will be fine.
2022-06-04 23:20
I would be more scared going to an event in texas rather than rio
2022-06-04 23:58
in famous places or around rich areas like leblon or copacabana is very safe, brazil isnt like u gonna get out your house and get stabbed
2022-06-26 03:32
Like everyone said u need vests, then make sure u dont bring anything with u so u dont get robbed, idk if its legal or not but always have some weapon with u, maybe tazer, spray or knife. It would be nice to have personal guide and bodyguards, if u can afford them ofc. And u need money to pay for things so i would suggest holding money into shoes. Thats all, have a nice trip
2022-06-26 03:46
Oh Rio is a pretty nice place! I like brazil but... just stay in tourist area. It's not joke
2022-06-26 04:04
Not much.
I could suggest you 10 other cities where you would be safer and would enjoy as much.
2022-06-26 04:07
It's perfectly safe, as long as you don't leave the airport
2022-06-26 04:08
i don't see why would you go to danger areas here, just pay attention if you are going in the right direction and you will be fine.
2022-06-26 04:38
