Imo things go like this: English > German > French/Spanish German as a priority since I'm studying Chemical Engineering and Germany is pretty big in the segment.

Depends what your reasoning is. Professionally, I wouldn't say any language is worth learning aside from English. Do you have family in France, ancestors? What makes you interested in it?

Cuz if u take a language as hobby u might wanna learn a language that you enjoy rather than one that is worth learning.

This. English spanish is perfection professionally speaking. French is widely spoken but I'm not sure it will often come in handy so OP should just learn whatever he wants <3

It's the 5th most common language by total number of speakers, behind English, Mandarin, Hindi and Spanish So fairly useful if you just want to communicate with more people

French is spoken in way more places, where mandarin is only spoken in China and even there you can't even communicate with it in the whole country
2022-05-25 00:37
Wrong. French is spoken in lots of places spread over the globe, while Mandarin is more limited to a region of the World or really mostly China.

It's hard with the writing but as a speaking language, give it a go. Be sure to learn a specific type of french tho, learning Quebec french is very different from learning France french.

I think it’s a beautiful language. My experience in trying to learn French in France involved french people getting short with me because I wasn’t pronouncing shit right. Made me reconsider learning in a public setting, never tried again.

Did you go to Paris? Yeah learning in public will work out much better if you go to other places in France, but you’ll always meet (amongst students and such) people who can help you learn and show you around I guess. Depends in what setting you’re going… A shame that was your experience. Good on you for trying

The only point of learning French is if you want to get a job at a french-speaking country or move there or have another motive besides just curiosity. If you dont know English, kiss goodbye to your employment chances. if you dont know more languages, kiss goodbye to your chances of getting a bigger pay check/more chances. At least for us from SA.

if hes a brazilian, then not really. We use the same the accents/stresses, just in a different way cause we can trace back our words to common ancestors. But ofc you're 100% right if you dont come from one of the romance language's countries

imo belgians are right 70 => septante 80 => quatre-vingt (wtf as well) 90 => nonante I would like all french speaking people using Switzerland numbers i heard they say soixante, septante, octante, nonante... which is the most logical i think. (sixty, seventy, eighty, ninety ...)

Being Brazilian, maybe spanish is more important if you want to travel around your country or if you work in exports/imports to those places and it will be easier to learn since portuguese-spanish is similar than french. By the way, french is a hell in pronunciation and verbs, I did three years back in school and for the only thing it worked for me is to listen stromae :D

No french is forced to us in middle school but it's literally the worst language I learned its unecessarily hard and takes time and effort to get used to the accents and actually understand what french people are saying, since they talk way too fast, and besides you don't even need it for anything
