Why source 2
Spain BIGGEST_VALVE_FAN
Evolution of the game, new game engine, bigger opportunities to grow the game. Easier content creation by devs and map designers, so more OPs, can fix MM and implement new features and so on. Better netcode Support of Vulkan api along with dx11 More optimized game. Smoke bugs fixed New physics engine, better animations, etc Hardest update there is, that's for sure. But also the biggest and biggest change CS will ever get since the end of 1.6 era. (and CSS). Will be the beginning of a new era for the monstrous CS history. Hope there is something but they won't leak a single thing. Chances are they are working on it. Do u trust in valve? I know I do. Patience is key.

To be fair the flash was always shit. I mean i watched 7 seasons and Really enjoyed it but if you go back and rewatch from an objective view its so stupid. I do agree it fell off hard after season 5. At least in the old seasons it was fun and interesting but they ran out of plot real quick.

Flash started off as a show in which you are expected to keep your brain shut down and enjoy the greater amazing plot, but unfortunately we cannot even do that anymore considering how hilariously random the plot of these seasons have gotten now.

and split the userbase? doesn't work for anybody
2022-05-27 19:35
Unlikely a new CS will ever be released, its too risky to split the playerbase and the amount of money csgo has is just too much, so a full port is almost certain it will happen someday, as they cannot push this old engine forever
2022-05-27 19:48
They wont do it while CS is still popular and by most metrics is still growing
2022-05-27 23:58
Source 2 is up bro, check twitter
2022-05-27 19:33
going on a stretch here but one of the reasons they're not updating it might be to keep the player base who play on low end setup i'll be honest, if csgo had system requirements equal to a AAA game i wouldn't have played it coz i didn't have a decent laptop until only recently. so it's aesthetic values vs a sizeable chunk of the player base to be considered

Wouldn't source 2 bring more fps as its engine will be more optimized?
2022-05-27 19:35
11 replies
no, because optimized here doesn't mean it will run on low end PCs basically the graphics that would require like an RTX 3090 will be running on say a GTX 1080 (just an example) but the overall base still requires the GTX 1080 as compared to let's say Integrated graphics etc
2022-05-27 19:39

Don't talk about stuff you really don't understand. Source 2 can easily run on mid range components from 2015. S&Box (S2 game) will apparently run on a computer which can run gmod without issues. HL:A had GTX 1060 as the min req. GPU, and that's a VR game. GTX 1080 would literally halve the the player base. Good thing to remember too is that people who can't afford components released after lets say 2015 probably aren't the ones actually making Valve money.

dude i just said i'm giving an example wtf i used to play csgo on an AMD A4, i'm pretty confident you've never even heard of this GPU. i used to get 60ish fps on 640x480 but i used to play anyways coz i liked the game. if source 2 was present, i'd be getting about half of that. yes the game would look better, but it would still be too much for my GPU. that's what i meant

Yes obviously source 2 is gonna require more than a CPU + integrated graphics from 2012... Neglecting the majority of the player base for the sake of allowing people with a decade old computers to play just isn't worth it for Valve.

There's a lot more than the physics when switching a game engine. It just doesn't make sense for the game to upgrade honestly, unless they full reboot it

Wouldn't Source 2 be integrated, alongside a whole code clean up? If so, there's good reason for the game to be updated. Developers will have a easy time working with CSGO, from what I have heard, CSGO developers are fearful of updating the game at a large amount, because the code is that messy.
2022-05-27 23:19

Frankly, Source 2 is nothing like the original Source engine (I've worked with both), so it's not just because the codebase would be more novel and maintained better, but the fact that nearly all aspects of the game would be fundamentally different in some way

yeah and that's the problem, no one would play the sequel cuz of the skins that csgo has, so it's a pretty big problem for valve: -they can't move csgo to source 2 cuz it would change the game too much + #24 or smth like that -they can't make a new game because the skin economy would be ruined idk So what do valve do now? Do they risk it and move to S2? Do they make a new game and transfer the current skins there? Or is this the last CS ever?

yeah but then what will happen to CSGO? Will all the skins disappear? Also the community will probably be split into 2 like with 1.6 and source. IDK I think we should just let valve handle this, if they want CS to become bigger and make it last WAY more time, maybe make it become like the football of esports or something, they probably know how to do it, we'll have to live and see what they choose to do.
2022-05-27 20:22

Wouldn't an engine change permit the game to advertise itself in a larger fashion? If the game is aesthetically pleasing, smooth and less glitchy. More players may be incentivised to buy skins, provided they become interested in CSGO.

Wake up, you're dreaming. "Smoke bugs fixed" - if you mean "1-way smokes" - it is not a bug if you think about it. Imagine yourself hiding in a bush - you see everybody almost 100% clearly but everybody else has hard times seeing you, especially from far away. It's just how it works. As for the rest - not gonna happen. I mean, eventually they will make a CS game based on the Source 2 engine, but apart from somewhat better graphics it will bring nothing. P.S. Where is that young man who told he would be apologized to for not believing Valve would announce Source 2 at the PGL major? So funny how he disappeared xD
2022-05-27 20:50

I mean the smoke when u stand inside, and see the siluette of the enemy (it doesnt happen almost ever, but its the "critial engine bug" that is unfixable) that imo, with the new engine it would fix it. And yeah the 1 way smokes is another thing. Also every Major there is people trying to hype a Valve update announcement just baiting and getting the likes xD, i dont know where is this trend coming from, but if VALVE or the casters/desk hosts (as Valve themselves would leak it to them so community would know) dont say there is a special announcement or anything, then nothing will ever happen. I think people say this cuz of Dota2 TI, Valve always announces something, but Major it never been like this.

tbh it is not that old, and it's considered a top 5 game engine. If Source (1) lasted this long and is pushed to this limit and still not break, cant imagine what Source 2 can do. Already made the best VR game up to this date. So, its good news it's like airplanes, a new airplane isnt as "good" as an old (around 10 years old for e.g) one, as an old one is much more polished, and a new one can have errors yet that have to be fixed. As an example would be the Boeing 737 MAX (which had fatal accidents), compared to the boeing 737-8ng, which is old, but its the most reliable. Weird comparision, i know lol

No it is fine, I think Valve have to revolutionise their game at some point, and it is better to start now than ever (although they are saunter and even halt updates). Since there is competition (Valorant), the game will probably want to kickstart itself and increase the difference between itself and other fps competition. For example. Dota 2 is updated regularly, and has been ported to Source 2. Dota 2 has competition, a great one at that. Maybe, just maybe, Valve may recognise one of their biggest titles, if not current biggest title to be in dire need of a refurbishment. I feel like it is bad for the market of Valve, and their money to neglect CSGO, especially in the coming future. Maybe it is just me being high on copium, but I do hope for the vitality of the game to be abounded. Although, Valve may not release it, I am sceptical that they wont.
2022-05-27 23:28

Dota2 it is a MOBA so it was easier to port, while CS:GO every single detail fucks up the game, or it improves it. So it's much harder too. Idk if the competition really matters for Valve.. xD they have the weirdest work cultures there is, but they are a private corporation.. so they dont give 2 fcks lol I think there is chances we get source2, but I believe Valve will announce it properly for an update of this magnitud, so we will all know for sure when it happens. I doubt CS:GO will ever get negleted tho, game is massive, money is massive. And there is devs at CS:GO department that been working on CS since 20 years. So they know..

Yeh you're right, the highest possibility of valve releasing Source 2 is especially relevant in recent times, the 10 year anniversary of course. CSGO probably wont be neglected thoroughly, but, it has been slept on with interesting additions. I believe the addition of new maps, and subsidising developers upon new maps is key for the fanbase, it prevents things from becoming overly banalizing (although the current maps are great ofc). I really hope a new engine becomes ported soon though, especially if valve embellishes the engines features catering towards developers, so content creation and communities are fresh. But it will take time, they have already had the timeline to develop it, so if it ever comes out, it will change pretty much every landscape of CS. Which is exciting.
2022-05-28 00:16
didn't say anything against source 2, it's great but it's never coming to csgo and a new cs game doesn't look to be anywhere near in sight, all valve care about are skins and producing a new cs would complicate that aspect

I don't understand why a new engine is even necessary? If CSGO didn't exist (or was as horrible as CSS), I'd still happily play 1.6 I don't care about modern graphics at all. As long as the game is comfortably playable and makes fun, there really is no need to upgrade anything as far as I'm concerned.

??? Who mentioned a new CSGO? Source 2 is updating the game with more modern game engines, it will host more benefits, ranging vital characteristics of an esports game. Which can be for example, frequent updates with more content, less overall bugs and glitches in the long run, optimisation of the game, greater aesthetics and fluid animations. It is folly to believe Valve will certainly release it sure, I see that. But, if the game wants to reach new heights, which it certainly should (considering valve want to line their pockets with more money, streamed by cases towards new and recurring players). Plus, at some point, Valve will certainly have to modernise the game, improve the standards and conditions so that they do not lose players, and return past players along with new players. Source 2 may also attract newer generations of gamers, considering Source is outdated by a lot, Source 2 serves as a modern approach to a beloved franchise.

1. You can not make the same game but better in different engine. Everything would be different and if everything is different you just made a different game no matter the name unless you are the type of dude that believes they can copy-paste game into source 2, than its pointless even discussing further with you. 2. What heights do you want it to reach? Moon? It is the most played and one of the most popular games in the world with billions dollars invested in skins. What is the reasoning behind making the same based game to compete with CSGO at this moment?

I am talking about CSGO from a viewpoint of its identity, it is not going to be the exact same game literally. The game is still going to be known as part of the Counter Strike Franchise, but of course, more modern. Plus, introducing Source 2 will improve the game, from a standpoint of many dimensions excluding popularity, what I mean by this is, updates and managing the game is going to be easier. Second of all, even if CS is popular, it is always important to manage a game and try to increase its popularity, whether it is popular or not. Furthermore, I am also trying to be vicarious in the boots of Valve, it is a great market decision to elicit more sponsors, more players to enter Counter-Strike and invest within skins. This can occur possibly, at a great level with an engine change.

2022-05-28 00:13
or maybe they are just using their already existing games as testbeds for source2 features. meanwhile, it doesnt make sense for them to switch to s2/release a new game from a business standpoint of view, so all those changes remain for internal use and leak from time to time to the official builds if i were an game engine dev, i wouldnt create a new game only for showcasing purposes. i would use an already existing game and build on top of that

the game has been at the top of steam charts for the past years. even the esports side is breaking records so of course it does not make sense for them to risk breaking things when the game is at an all time high > current engine doesnt allow updates who cares about updates? if valve were committed to making regular updates, they would be able to do so for current gen csgo too. gta5 is as old as csgo, but r* is still milking it and will keep milking that old ass game for the foreseeable future > bla bla dota mobas are different. cosmetics&movement is not as important there

Its known they where testing Source 2 migration of the game. They have been testing vulkan an some other things, but if it is taking this long(they have been talking about source 2 since 2019) they must have encountered some big problems. At the end of the day the have to modify Source 2 to keep CSGO original feeling, and they are not going to release a broken source 2 version when the actual version is still working great.

as long I get the same fps or more than I get right know I totally support source 2 but knowing valve they destroyed all optimization with this game in all useless updates they added, they should follow valorant example, at least is well optimized for low-end pc and so, because developers know it's a competitive game nobody cares about graphics
2022-05-28 05:15
Why make any changes in the skin's market?
2022-05-28 05:36
While 99.9999999999999999999999% of things can likely be moved to Source 2 without any major disruption there's a catch: 1) Utility - it's damn near impossible to make it work the same exact way 2) Skin market - while most skins will be fine there's a risk of destroying a market. And who would risk destroying a market work 2 billion or however much it's worth? Cause rare skins also rely on patterns and translating those 100% would be hit and miss, mostly miss. So chances are it won't happen, too risky.
2022-05-28 10:16

big reason probably is the skins, but i heard they are able to port it all without a problem. Utility and physics engine is different, but also read that u can re-create it to make it feel the same way CS is right now. So it shouldn't change. Idk, i doubt Valve will port and ruin the skin market as it brings them a huge amount of money, might be why its taking longer than expected
