Well, you can argue hardware requirements are unfair - however that is like saying you're anti tech developing and no different that fx. saying it is wrong games require more than 4 GB of ram. Back in time computers had no 3D acceleration at all, much lower screen resolution, just 16 colors... thankfully they evolved, people bought the improved computers and programmers and artists took advantage of the new tech.
However I will agree to an extent, it is not like using new tech automatically makes a game great. In fact many games seem to focus more on being pretty than having great game play, since, lets be honest here, often what sells is the pretty graphics. Thankfully there is games for us all, in fact there is way more games than anyone can ever manage to play.
For me it has been a while since I bought a game at release, the last one was actually Far cry 5 and since then I have keeping a list of possible buys once I have a new GPU. But on the same time having plenty of fun with older and/or less demanding games. I actually bought a arcade style game controller to play some arcade classics like Galaga, Pac Man, Dig Dug and so - hardware wise they run on anything and having a proper controller makes a difference.
