Tried 10 different mechanical keyboards this year, from razer, xtrfy, spartan, and whatnot, all of the keyboards had ghosting (key randomly doesnt register when i click it). Using my x7 keyboard rn thats like 15 euro, literally no issues with it, and it feels faster too. The only problem is that its too big.

The top keyboard I've ever had was an old office one (those that go yellow and grey after some time) with an AT connection, this finally changed after the one I purchased last, a mechanical. Great lighting, great feel, great features, no junkware, very well built.
It's not that all mechanical are good, I had to search a lot for this one, but they can be awesome.
100% true. So much misinformation about mechanical keyboards especially in gaming community.
I got tricked into buying a 100$ mkb thinking it would
- last longer (totally false)
- feel better (ok true)
- better for gaming (no real difference but i have brown switches, maybe a difference with red switches)
I faced double typing issue (extremely common for mkb) 3 months into the purchase, got a replacement which also started double typing 4 months in. Horrible experience and worst purchase of my life no doubt

Same here. I have some really old ass mechanical keyboard that my father once brought home when he was drunk and some time after I shared some thoughts on these things with him. I'm not even sure what brand that thing is, it's definitely not one of the top manufacturers, but the thing is still kicking, it's absolutely perfect and never failed me once despite all the years of heavy use (typing and then gaming extensively for around 14 hours per day).

I've never liked mechanical either, too noisy (like the most quietest currently available only start to become acceptable but they aren't feeling that nice again). They need to combine the following for me to possibly consider a mechanical again, low-profile, tactile switch that are as quiet as the most quiet (linear switches) but faster than MX Browns in activation in tenkeyless format.
Also when it comes to speed there's some truth to it but not for every switch but already the quite common MX Browns are somewhat slower than some cheap rubber domes, I know cuz I had to increase my double tap frequency in the options for the dodge to register in Unreal Tournament beta when it worked perfectly fine with a lowcost rubberdome KB. Obviously clicky switches like MX Blues will be even slower.

Why do you say this? I feel like this is some hipster opinion created over the years to try to shit on Cherry by people that build custom keyboards with other switches.
The fact is, I've never had a Cherry MX switch fail on me ever whereas I've had multiple Gateron and Kailh switches fail. And years ago I used to buy 20-30 year old keyboards on ebay before mech keyboards were popular to harvest double shot cherry keys, and not one of those old boards with blacks had a dead switch.

That's because Cherry MX years and years ago used to be much better, now their QC has fallen tremendously and they fail to innovate, there are simply better options for how much they charge you, Zealios for example. I suppose calling them dogshit was an exaggeration, but for me there's just no reason to ever buy MX switches

There’s no way you bought X mechanical keyboards and they were all bad, it’s user error or your pc is trash, which is also user error as it’s your fault if you can’t diagnose problems or have a broken pc.

Been using Razer Huntsman Elite with opto-mechanical Red switches over a year now and I am so fkin satisfied. No ghosting, excellent speed and key registration. Sometimes too much maybe, but one has to get used to it. So many sw options etc, overall 9/10 but so far the Best I have ever had

The one keyboard to rule them all. You will however need to find it on ebay or a similar place.

Maybe. Never got around to try razer product. The few times I considered razer products, I got persuaded out of it by looking up reviews and feedback. So maybe this just makes sense, the reason why razer things are so expensive not because good, but maybe because that extra costs comes from marketing...
Gotta get a custom. Any mech keyboard that comes out of a box ready to go isn't going to have buttery smooth switches that a user can lube and solder themselves. A custom keyboard takes work to build but in the end it's an insane product that can be used for a long time. I've built a few keyboards myself and can never go back to a rubber dome keyboard.

You’re wrong on this one. A custom keyboard has the ability to be far far better than an out of the box one. The difference is that you can buy a red dragon for 20$ that would probably cost in the neighborhood of 300$ to build.

Building one allows you to completely control the product. That means that theoretically the quality ceiling is perfection. Brands won’t deliver that because if they deliver a perfect experience once, there’s no reason for you to be a repeat customer. I haven’t even mentioned how much it would cost to buy a prebuilt keyboard of the same quality if they did exist. The time companies would spend manufacturing each board would probably lead to each being valued well over 1k, which is a price that frankly nobody would pay for a keyboard. Idk what more to tell you. It’s just kinda common sense at this point.

Generally you’re talking nonsense. How good keyboards are depends on the switches, the hardware not if they are custom or not. That said, custom keyboards DONT use special hardware, so what you said is complete nonsense. The most important thing, the switches, are used in both products the same, you can find all switches in either product. If I buy a keyboard with cherry switches it has cherry switches, doesn’t matter if it’s custom or not. If you believe otherwise you have no clue about tech.

Check any forum where there are people who are "enthusiasts" and they will tell you that any custom keyboard will make one out of the box feel inferior. I've built several keyboards from just a PCB and a case and I can tell you that nothing will beat the feel of a custom. What you're saying is somewhat correct about switches, that what you get (mx brown, mx clear, mx black, mx blue, etc) will determine the feel, but this only comes down to the tactile bump a switch will offer or it being linear. There are levels of smoothness a switch can have and no out of the box keyboard will offer the smoothest experience you can have with a custom.

Yea I think you’re talking complete nonsense. I’ve read multiple reviews about custom keyboards, nowhere was it mentioned that they are technically better, it was always just down to style and personality and nothing to do with hardware. And nothing you say adds up, switches are switches, they are not specifically set up by the user, a cherry brown key or whatever will always behave the same no matter in which keyboard it is use, no you can’t customize it. You can only use different switches, which isn’t special. Custom keyboards are just style and nothing else, you’re basically behaving like a audiophile placebo elitist that buys 10.000$ cables and thinks they are better. Nothing you said adds up. Next you wanna tell me your 1s and 0s in digital cables are better with a 1000$ dollar cable.

weird, when i had a roccat mouse and used the software called "swarm" which is used to switch dpi and stuff on the mouse my keyboard randomly got ghosting. I was super frustrated cuz i though my keyboard was broken but it was the same with 3 diffrent ones. And then when i removed the software from my computer the ghosting disappeared

Every single keyboard has a slab of metal or plastic as backplate, that's never gonna change. Keycaps aren't even expensive so with some money you can get a whole new set of them of whatever style you want.
Switches are literally the only thing that makes a mechanical keyboard different from a membrane one

I am simply saying the inherent negatives you will get from buying a mech.
Yes you are paying for switches but in consequence you will have shitty bulky keys to fit the size of the switch. No such low profile mechanical switch will ever be as thin as a scissor switch style type.
You won't ever get a keyboard as quiet as a membrane just because of how the keycap hits the mechanical switch.
You pretty much need to spend $400+ on customs + lube just to try to mimic a membrane LMAO

Meanwhile typing on a membrane keyboard feels like you’re fisting mud the day after it rains, when the ground has begun drying, but the it is still wet enough that there’s a slight squish from every step.
Wanting a key switch to be as thin as possible is completely unnecessary, I don't see how it being thinner is better
Yeah, the sound of a quiet mechanical switch comes only from the keycap. So you can get a silenced keycap if you want. I don't know why noise would be a great concern at that point since the difference between no noise and basically no noise is almost impossible to perceive.
Membrane keys feel awful, inconsistent, almost 90% of the time. Really, any shitty mechanical feels better than 99% of membrane keyboards out there. I don't know what you mean by saying "You pretty much need to spend $400+ on customs + lube just to try to mimic a membrane"

You can get cherry switches for well under 50. Reds and blues are extremely common and reds in particular have a really hefty value proposition and still boast a typing feel that can’t be matched by membranes

i've always prefered shit membrane keyboards over expensive mechanicals, but now i got a budget mechanical from a friend. Didn't liked at first, but got used to it with time. But tbf i never had problems with ghosting
get some diy kit that have hotswap pcb, there are some for cheap and then get some gateron yellows/pro silver or akko jelly black/silver and some nice pbt double shot keycaps and enjoy
I'm willing to bet money you have either a semi dead usb port that doesnt have enough juice to power the mechanical keyboard and its lights or you are simply doing something wrong. I've been using a mechanical keyboard for just under a decade and I have never had a ghosting problem. After about 8 years of owning one and taking it on multiple flights and stuffing it into a backpack with other stuff did my last one finally crap out on me with 1 key constantly pressing itself. I could go and fix it myself but I felt it was time to retire it and buy a new one. The one I currently own has had 0 issues the entire time I've owned it.
Forreal though check your usb ports and if you are using a usb dock then its user error not the keyboard

Perhaps you’re just bad at games? On every mechanical keyboard I’ve used (which is quite a few considering I’ve used multiple other peoples setups alongside my own), I’ve never experienced any of the issues you’ve described. I’ve used brands ranging from razer to Logitech to hyperx to red dragon to custom built keyboards, and never once had any issues. If you don’t actuate the switch that’s not a keyboard problem it’s a you problem.
