Yank hours so please answer, thanks. I'm in England right now and really want to move to USA. I visited NYC / Miami / LA right before Covid began for about 2 months and it was the best time of my life. Trust me when I say UK and EU (with exception of Spain and Portugal, but those have their own problems) doesn't nearly compare to how fun America is. Everyone who shit talks America has never been there is a trend I notice. Would you recommend NYC or Miami? I like NYC for the density and public transport, but Miami for the weather and vibes. Girls are hot and people are friendly in both. I'm getting a mechanical engineering degree within a year so money and healthcare (no god-awful waiting lists thankfully) isn't an issue. Thanks.

Don't live in NYC. Miami is alright but not great. I live in Atlanta and its pretty nice here, decently affordable, lot of stuff to do. Texas is good if you dont care about the politics. I would probably not live in California. as #1 said northeast is pretty good (MA, Connecticut, vermont, etc.) midwest is pretty cool too, like wisconsin and minnesota if you dont mind the cold

I would've recommended Kennesaw or Marietta maybe a decade and a half ago, but holy shit rush hour traffic in ATL has gotten crazy. Not that they aren't nice places to live, but I'd hate driving in and out if I worked in the city.

That's what's crazy to me. I remember in the 90s when ATL was pretty small for a "major" city. Granted, the city itself had shrunk a bunch from 1960, but still. The surrounding areas weren't nearly as crowded then, I could get to Marietta from where I live in about 2 hours. Now you're lucky if it's 3 with the traffic. I guess the idea of having to pay for express lanes makes me grumpy because I'm an old asshole.

Yeah the suburbs are pretty huge now, express lanes are cool and aren't too expensive, and there's plenty of back routes to go on

It doesn't make sense. Were Stalin and Mao right wing to you? Being gay was also forbidden in the USSR, so would you call the communists right wing? Our economic policy is much more left wing, culturally-wise Putin doesn't care about ethnic Russians and traditions as well, etc. He's a madman, but not right wing.
2022-07-15 09:58
You could make the case that Iran has a "right wing" dictator because theirs is based on a religious nut job who enforces his 'religious morals' on everyone. But most modern dictatorships are much more socialist/communist in nature, which is definitely "left wing". At the end of the day, dictators suck.

i ain't no americano but the US immigration system is pretty harsh bro. My mom have close relatives who are american citizens, but she gave up trying to get a permanent residence in there, she had to wait for like 15 years, lol. I think the easiest way to get in there is by being a skilled worker, but that would require you some previous exp, idk about mechanical engineering, but there are a lot of foreigners working there as software engineers (field i work in), but from what i searched you need like 5+ years of experience with certain programming languages to have some company to sponsor you. It takes a lot of time...

Easiest way is to get a degree from an american college on a school visa, which comes with a two year work visa after you've finished with school. Then while you're working, have the company pay for your green card application. You'll be green carded in a couple years no problem. I'm in the engineering industry and loads of immigrants go this route.

I've lived in Florida for five years and in New York for fifteen years. I'll break down my experiences in both for you: I've always loved NYC, and I have plans on moving back there soon. NYC is probably the most culturally diverse city in the United States, and if you're on the creative side, it's a big hub for the arts. It is an expensive city to live in, but if money wouldn't be an issue for you, Manhattan is where everything is. Manhattan is what people consider NYC, but I like parts of Brooklyn and Queens, too. Bushwick in Brooklyn is a fun area, as is Astoria in Queens. Both are accessible to Manhattan if you work there. A big plus for Brooklyn is renovated old brownstone townhouses, which usually include a backyard and two floors, and not only is it a lower price point than in Manhattan, townhomes are a very uncommon occurrence there, which is a big plus if you want a bigger place. Queens has townhomes as well, which is the same deal as Brooklyn, cheaper than Manhattan with bigger space, but you can still access it. Miami is a fun place with an insane party scene. I remember going to Wynwood for a Halloween Block Party and it was easily the wildest night of my life. While all that is wonderful, and if you're a big partier, Miami would be your spot. Miami is quite expensive, especially since there's been a big surge in people moving down there. It's a hot market right now, so you may need to act fast to secure something. I'd look in Brickell, North Miami Beach, Miami Beach, and Coral Gables, as all are nice and give you good access to all the hot spots. South Beach is the big party spot, with lots of clubs, girls, and Bodega, which is one of the best taco spots I've ever been to. If you wanna know anything else about either place, feel free to message me on here and I can try to point you in the right direction :).

Yeah man, I grew up very close to the city (20 minute train ride) and it was, and still is amazing. There's a lot of different spots around Manhattan that I really like, such as East Village, Upper East Side, Chelsea, and Tribeca. Tribeca is quiet, while Chelsea and the Upper East Side have a lot going on. East Village is quiet during the day but has a solid night life. Times Square is really busy all the time so if that's your vibe, all you. If you need help getting around, get the app Citymapper. It's a GPS that helps you get around NYC, and I highly recommend it. I still use it if I'm going somewhere I've never been. It gives you all the train info, along with a GPS for when you're walking. Best of luck on your search!

Just don't move to California. Northeast is good. Miami weather is quite muggy during the Summer, you'll get yourself an afternoon thunderstorm every day, but it is cheap, womens I guess (if that is really a priority) and better night life than Boston. But you'll probably find more like minded people in the Northeast

I would maybe look into cities like Boston or Philadelphia perhaps. or another one that I love and live in right now is Alexandria (it's like a smaller city right outside of Washington D.C.) tons of stuff to do, 10minute metro ride into the heart of Washington D.C. , cute girls, and its super safe compared to D.C.

Been in US 10 years. There are better places right now than NYC and Miami. I just moved back to NYC a year ago and it's changed a lot. Kind of a shithole right now, tbh. Brooklyn is still cool, but every time I go into Manhattan it's just kind of shitty. If you live in BK, you'll have fun. I lived in Miami for a year. Great food, weather seems awesome when you're there in the winter, but MAN IT IS SO FUCKING HUMID. It's nice that there's a little rain every day though. Kind of cool. Tbh I preferred Nashville, Austin, and Asheville. Super cool places, people are nice, lots of younger people, great venues, great food. They were all more affordable when I was there than NYC and Miami. Just avoid San Fran and Portland, OR. Promised myself to never go back. Portland, ME is cool though.

Asheville, Nashville, and Austin are democratic areas. If you end up in any city in the US, it will be democratic. This guy is baiting you. You will not be able to afford San Fran. It is ridiculously expensive and the areas surrounding are worse. The homelessness problem is on par with other cities, however, other cities attempt to keep the issue away from populated areas. San Fran does not. You will step over piles of human shit and needles. Also, if you are young, the age demographic of the city has shifted older because it is so expensive. I do not recommend for someone young who is starting out. Nashville is expensive, but there is no state income tax. My issue with Portland is the people. If you want to move somewhere weird with nice people, go to Austin or Portland, ME.

Wtf I'm not even right wing and also how tf is this political? Jesus I told the guy to live in Austin, Brooklyn, and Asheville, which are democratic enclaves. San Fran is a legitimate shithole right now. It's also unaffordable for someone just starting out and not in tech. Portland is also a shithole. I lived in San Fran for 2 years with my brother who still lives there. I lived in Portland for one year. I mean ffs, I live in Brooklyn HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Don't listen to this guy. San Fran is in no way affordable to anyone just starting out. Stop pretending the state of crime and homelessness is made up. Even a cursory search could find THOUSANDS of local reports, government action reports, and even WAY left leaning sources on this issue. Everyone from prosecutors, local advocacy groups, and every fucking mayor of the last 20 years has spoken of how bad it's gotten. It sounds like you are likely a teen who has never lived independently in any other city. San Fran is not at all a representation of how people in the US live, and if this guy starts out there, he is going to be sworn off the whole country.

Healthcare depends on the job you have and what they offer. I pay 109, last time I checked, a month and have no issues or long waits to ever see a doctor. I make an appointment and am seeing a doctor the next day. Prices also depend on where you are located. Where I work we pay a little more than employees in a different part of the state because they have more doctors in the area and the job is able to negotiate a lower prices.
2022-07-15 09:58
Yes low income/ elderly have free health care. Low income meaning under $1800 or so a month for medicade. Medicare is for 65+ or if you have a disability.
2022-07-15 11:31
Wrong lol, just have to wait forever regardless

US is amazing, but it isnt for me when it comes to living. I've been to DC,Philedelphia and Vegas and i loved it.However i dont like reallly dense cities and i feel like it is a must if you want to have a good life in the US

2022-07-15 10:03
There are plenty if laid back cities in the US similar what you find back at home. The country is the size of Europe so there are endless cities with diversity, different culture, style, etc. I’ll show you some
2022-07-15 14:30
To add, the US is a big ass country, people especially from the EU who are used to state size countries underestimate that every time. The US isnt just NYC and Cali, there are hundreds of major cities in the US which means pretty much there are all kinds of growth, culture, activeness, etc where you can choose from. I grew up in Newport, Rhode Island, super laid back and relaxing. People outside of the country doesnt know it exist because all they know is NY and LA. I dont blame you, good cities gets hidden when such world known cities exist. (Actually glad people arent aware) youtu.be/E4_hTxZlVOQ I now live in San Antonio, another major city and I love it. I think its a hybrid between being active and laid back. People are awesome here too, very friendly. Come visit some good US cities next time, its a big place so I’ll show you around pal. youtu.be/N9hvRsRxZYg youtu.be/GE2YEq7vaLc

Depends on income and job honestly. I’ve lived and been all around. NYC has a kick ass night life, some of the most beautiful women in the world hands down. Buuuuutttttttt, it’s super expensive for everything, double any price you are used to on food and drinks. Triple any rent you know, in a decent part of the city. City can get rough. Gets cold as shit, the wind can about kill you with the temp lol. Miami is great! Again depends on your income. Women are beautiful, night life is great but different. Loads of yay in Miami. With that comes the gold diggers. Weather makes up for %80 of it until hurricane season happens. Then it’s fun and not fun at the same time. Everyone throws hurrican parties, fun times. I ended up in hawaii. I wouldn’t live anywhere else again. Well maybe Thailand or Japan but that’s about it. Either way welcome to America!!

Come to Vegas and burn in the 44 c weather with me ;) But really Vegas is a up and coming urban area citymayors.com/statistics/urban_growth1... #30 here Also no state income tax n plenty of fun things to do with one of the best night lifes in the world :) This is what your salary would look like here I suppose salary.com/research/salary/benchmark/mec.. You'll get a lot more for your dollar here than NYC that's for sure . but between NYC and Miami definitely Miami... every from New York is fleeing to Florida atm but I'd rather live in a place like Naples in Florida instead of Miami personally :) beautiful state

Honestly, move to Canada. Canada is like a 1st world version of the US and you have to deal with a lot less idiocy. If you worry about weather and also wanna visit the USA whenever you feel like, move to south Canada. It's on the same equator line as Europe, so it get's the same weather as us and you can easily go and visit the US by car, train (or plane depending on where you wanna go in the US) whenever you feel like and have the time to do so.

I've visited both, USA is miles better for young, educated people like me. Question, do you legitimately, with all your brain power and no trolling, think America is third world? I've actually been there.

Florida is too hot in the summer and somehow boring. If you can chose, go NYC, one of the best cultural lifes I have seen, but it´s still in the US. Good luck.
2022-07-15 11:43
Seattle, Chicago and Boston are my favorites from US, climate never gets too hot and not too many natural disasters, generally pretty educated people and lots of fusion cuisine and good food. NYC is the best overall, but only if you can afford it.

"Trust me when I say UK and EU (with exception of Spain and Portugal, but those have their own problems) doesn't nearly compare to how fun America is" 0/8. Maybe leave the UK sometime and travel around in EU. You have hundreds of festivals every year, nice and cheap places to travel with friends etc. If ur not interested in festivals or travel with friends and more into history, nature and things like that you also have lots of countries like Sweden, Poland, Greece, Italy, Iceland, Switzerland etc. If you want a fun weekend with friends just go to Netherlands, Amsterdam lol. Please elaborate whats so "fun" in America and especially New York City. Its just a city filled with stressed out people trying to get somewhere lol. And yes, before you say anything, i have visited the states twice, one of the times i was in New York.

No shit lol. But he himself said "NYC" and that it was "The best time of his life". But, him saying "Trust me when I say UK and EU (with exception of Spain and Portugal, but those have their own problems) doesn't nearly compare to how fun America is" is just bs. It might be fun if ur not working or studying and can travel around like a tourist etc. But thats not what hes gonna do i assume. Hes gonna work etc. He will move back within a year, maybe two, lol.

Somewhere I lived for 2 months and he's completely erasing my opinion and experience. Confusing. Not to mention tripled salary. Weirdest thing is, again, everyone I know who's travelled there said the same. "Everything is big, country is so wide and vast, but no public transport, but NYC and Miami are awesome." Only internet people say it's shit.

"Please elaborate whats so "fun" in America and especially New York City. Its just a city filled with stressed out people trying to get somewhere lol." Yeah it's impossible to take people like you seriously when you say stuff like this. "what's so fun about Miami and NYC???" You good? I'm guessing you never travel hahahah nice one mate. I have a Swedish fun who said the same as well (about how fun America is). But maybe it's different since he actually went there and is a social person.

""what's so fun about Miami and NYC???" You good? I'm guessing you never travel" I do travel. But again, you will probably work 5-6 days a week lol. You are not gonna be a tourist. "But maybe it's different since he actually went there and is a social person." I actually went to America, twice, but ok. So...? Its true though. New Yorkers hate tourists. Its such a busy city, people have shit to do 24/7 lol. You dont have to take me seriously, but its the truth. So i am not a social person because i give you the truth? You think its gonna be some magical thing or whatever but you will realize sooner or later that you only work-sleep-work-sleep-work-sleep in a city like New York. Same thing with Miami if ur not a millionare, which i doubt.

As an american that's traveled all over the country I would suggest not moving here, if you're loaded that's a different story though. I would suggest the PNW like Seattle or even San Francisco. If you're dead set on Florida or NY, move to Tampa or St. Petersburg.

if you don’t mind cold and blizzards or bad winters, minnesota wisconsin illinois michigan missouri are decent to look at. mainly minnesota and wisconsin though. illinois is just taxes but it’s ok as long as you stay west of ohare and chicago or north starting around evanston(expensive area) michigan is dragged down a lot by flint and detroit, but it’s also decent living wise. no food on tax, gas is pretty good price, just the country is confederate flags if that doesn’t bother you. try not to talk about politics no matter what Missouri is nice overall from the few times i’ve been there, don’t take my word for there though.

do NOT go to miami (I would not recommend NYC either but I am from Florida so I don't know as much about it other than very high crime rates). Miami also has very high crime rates and considering you are from the UK, I am unsure if you can handle the Florida heat? Florida heat is very different than heat in the north, just a warning. I would recommend the Ormond area of central florida if you move here though. Nice beach, clean community, and generally a good living area.
