Nando wants a multi year deal, but Alpine probably didn't want to do that with Piastri on the sidelines. For Aston, they get a good first driver with a lot of experience and that is great for PR. No other team would probably invest in a 41 year old.

Feels like it would've been better if he signed 1-year contract with Alpine and then replaced Ricciardo in McLaren after 2023 season, I was really hoping for that Another Mercedes' client, just like Aston but with a lot more potential to fight in front of the grid. Anyways, it's always super fun and exciting to watch Alonso racing
