mandatory service
 |
Korea seoul_air
hi guys, do your countries have mandatory service, if so have you done or about to do so? i have service next year scheduled however i believe i am exempt due to something i will not name on hltv which is a relief as i can get to studies more focused, however military experience would be good for the upcoming high threat of war with NK thanks!

yes served in 2021 (1/21) it was pretty shitty and i hated it, didn't really learn anything new or useful, also busted my knee in the 3rd week when i fell in an exercise and got assigned a boring job, got off in 165 days and never looked back since

yeah, it wasnt all shit though, made some friends among the way the culture is indeed really shitty, i had diagnosed mental health issues and was on medication but because a doctor deemed me fit 4 years before i went i had to go through with it mental health is really overlooked there and i relapsed back into my issues as well, glad i managed to stay relatively sane and got better instantly after tj0 lmao

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conscription_in_Sw.. "In 2017, the Swedish government decided to reactivate military conscription, referencing increased threats to national security. Beginning in 2018, over 4,000 women and men were called up for service.[1] The conscripts were chosen from a pool of approximately 13,000 young people born in 1999 to serve for 12 months" "The Swedish Armed Forces reportedly planned to call 4,000 recruits annually for basic military training in 2018 and 2019. As the relevant age cohort was about 100,000, this meant that roughly 4% were to be enlisted" And then they get placed in the army reserves basically.

Just men, women can volunteer. The army wants more motivated women to join though, so they are doing marketing and branding with that in mind. The volunteer women I met in service were 10x better than some of the lazy assholes who didn't want to do it but had to. So I hope there's more women serving in the future.

Bad take. Maybe if you are only thinking of an infantryman in which case they still learn valuable skills, just not close to an engineer or intelligence. The military is a great place to learn skills that get you hired in the private sector when you get out. Maybe in your country this isn't the case, but it is in the US.

dk anything about us system but anyway army can't give you anything if you have plan in your head what you want to do. if you already well-desciplined and found out what you wanna do for life, you just going to lose one year (or whatever amount in each county) of your life for questionable experience

Mandatory in Estonia (8 or 11 months) I served in 2015 for 11 months (january - december), was hard, but overall a good experience. Made sergeant and infantry squad leader, lots of new buddies and new knowledge. If you have no real reasons to not serve ( i mean medical reasons), I would say go for it. I would recommend that type of experience to every young male, helps you grow into a man.

Pretty silly, especially from a supposed Ukrainian to want other countries to dissolve their armies...besides it promotes discipline, exercise and organization in addition to the skills of the job. I wish the US had mandatory 1 year service or something. Too many people living in their bubbles, getting liberal arts degrees and sipping mochas to understand the dangers of the world.
2022-08-05 04:38
1 reply
it doesn't have anything to do with me being a Ukrainian. I think I've already stated in *maybe* some other thread that mandatory service is good for the state but bad for people. It's none of your business where others live and what they are doing. You want to have discipline and organisation in your life - go and sign the contract for a few years. If someone doesn't need it - no way you should force him, he doesn't owe you anything about Ukrainian part again, 1) did I say that Greece should "dissolve their army"? Nope, they should turn it into a professional full-time army. Having massive conscript armies simply doesn't make sense for NATO countries. Quality > quantity 2) We (Ukraine) aren't protected at all, basically surrounded by 1 big aggressive enemy. We don't have any guarantees, real alliances etc. Basically like Israel. Greece is a member of the biggest military alliance in the world. Who tf will even think about attacking them. That guy is just a delusional nationalist who should've been born like 150 years ago 3) Here usually the best soldiers are volunteers, who weren't mobilised against their will. Soldier who doesn't want or simply can't fight is nothing more than cannon fodder. And we don't lack manpower, we lack equipment. War isn't about human numbers anymore, it's about technology. Unless you are going to have a total ww3 across the globe but nothing will help in that case anyway
2022-08-05 21:06

Here there is obligatory army duty, either you can go for 6 months or you pay 80k-90k Turkish Lira and go there for 21 days. I have been in army duty for 6 months between September 2021- March 2022. Worst 6 month of my life. I was in Cyprus and resources were limited. No hot water or drinkable water, shitty places to sleep + we have been super close to Cypriot Greek border. I wouldn't recommend anyone to go army duty. If you have any other chance, please just take it.

In Brazil we are obliged to enlist in the army. In my case, i just remember we singing the national anthem, then we were directed to open cabins where we were supposed to take off our clothes and just stay in our underwear. A doctor would come to check on everyone by asking questions and at the end of the questions he would ask if you wanted to serve in the army. I said no and then i was not recruited. There are cases where you are recruited even if you say no, but i think nowadays most are volunteers

Reservist army is in most of cases much cheaper and effective for the country. Professional armies are huge sinks of tax payer money and after all every country has an army, either own or neighbors. Mandatory service is service for your country (and at least in Finland fun as hell)

we learned in school i remember poorer countries are more are obliged to join military as they have no other choice apart from academics due to sports not being a viable option, so a lot of stupid ones go to military

you have learned wrong; at least, this is not applicable in India. Let me give you an example. Agniveer was announced in June, and by the end of July, 10,000 WOMEN had registered. You can imagine the number of men who have registered. Most of them are from well-to-do families. Unlike most European countries, our military sees action, and many lose their lives on the battlefield. One can only get into NDA (National Defense Academy) only if he/she is not only smart but also physically fit; that's the by-default requirement. Now tell me, if someone is smart, he/she can easily make a good amount of money in today's world; why join NDA? This is only because we love our country, period. I would have joined agniveer myself but couldn't because of my age.

If someone is smart they wouldn't be joining the army so your whole argument sinks.

India is an exception. Being smart is a mandatory requirement, and so many get rejected every year because they fail the test/s.

I mean you're right, my bad. Smart and intelligent aren't the same thing, so many book smart people who are complete retards (for example retarded enough to join the army)

We do but it's really shit. In Denmark, once you turn 18 you get a letter that says you have to come for a check-up, to see if you're fit for the military. I turned 18 in December 2019 and got my letter and appointment scheduling. No suprise as with everything at that time it got canceled due to covid. I'm now 20 years of age and haven't heard a word from them, restrictions are long gone seems they just forgot about my generation or at least me lol

18 to 27 men should check up and if you're healthy you will be enlisted unless half-a-year-quota has been reached. but you can dodge it easily enough (i.e. allergy to fish or slight heart problems etc) also you can go straight for a contract but that'll mean you can end up in some other country
2022-08-05 09:57
yes we have 6 months and i kinda support it

I was in the IDF for 2 years and 8 months as a spearhead machinegunner in the paratroopers including 8 months in a special forces team, I took part in the May Operation last year. Military service sucks ass it’s not fun you are miserable it creates a ton of pressure on your life but it builds character and you meet a lot of great people. It was hell for its all duration but I’m glad I did the service I did.

By the way the recruitment rules are: every person has to serve after turning 18 unless they volunteer for a year, have some sort of terminal disease or any severe disability. Arabs and ultra orthodox are exempt but can volunteer. Generally if you are physically healthy you will be sent to a combatant rule and if not a supportive role (called a “job”)

Because a lot of them have family living under the Israeli occupation and the government don’t want to force them to serve it plus they might be a threat to national security

We can choose between 6 months military and 9 months social service. Obviously went for the social service so I at least did something useful
2022-08-05 19:39
It's great. You learn discipline, multiple real life skills and working as a team with a bunch of different people, greatly developing social skills that you retain for the rest of your life. Many, many successful, self-made people were in the army for that exact reason.

useless its a waste of time : most people there are unintelegent degenerates, and if your smart you will find the whole thing so annoying and worthless esp the money part which youd make 10x more working regular job the only good aspect of it is if your a complete pussy and a fuck up that is lazy, doesnt know how to keep himself and his enviroment clean and is week minded they will shape you to be a better version of yourself and have a tougher mentality, but as i said if your not that then its such a waste of time

Why would I like to get orders from a peasant who thinks he is superior? I narrowly avoided army as I went for compulsory enrollment but they scraped it later. So I had to go for tests, including IQ ones. Got 59 out of 60, highest in the county in the last 3 years. They came and asked me to join them. I said no. Still happy I said no. I'm a peaceful guy, never fought in my life, never been beaten. It's all in communication. Blood draws more blood. Simple

Yes, 6 months of mandatory military service for any able-bodied man you can go into healthcare services like nursing homes, youth help programs or, like me, to the red cross for 9 months instead tho

My studies are going well, and if i can do my masters abroad get job from the states im not going back to army for the reason that im going to move to different country so there is no benefit to serve.

My country will explode with a civil war, against socialist-communist people who want to take private industries and farms. My family have a medium meat business and farm, so i only prepare myself shooting with a scoped rifle at different ranges, clean my gun, and run a couple km with 15kg equipment, just for healthy reasons but indirectly preparing myself for the civil war upcoming in a few years
