5 years ago suddenly, legit suddenly one night, i started to ruminate my thoughts and could not stop them, i would just ruminate things that i will kill myelf or someone else and i know and feel that will not happen but you are just afraid of losing your control even though you wont lose it, that i have schizophrenia, every little comes into your life and you cannot stop think about it, but in a way where your ruminating makes your everyday functionig below 0. Then i went to my best shrink on the planet who saved my life and i have been diagnosed with GAD but in spectre of OCD. Im going to psychotherapy from then.

There isn't one. But that doesn't change the fact that the pills are not the best way to handle these issues but unfortunately the only way we have for now. You are literally putting in chemicals to your body that don't belong there. Hence all these nasty side effects and all that crap. Also you start to feel pretty numb when you use them long term.

I met a lot of people and everyone has their own experience and thats the purpose of this thread, to share your experience if u are taking the pills or took it in the past and maybe encourage someone to take it if they need it but they are ashamed of it. With my current therapy 0 side effects are brought to my body, but before with different therapy there were some sexual barriers and that affects the relationship a bit.
2022-08-04 14:55
yeah but that's better than being screaming I'm going to kill myself or someone else, there's no other solution as of right now. At least the guy has self control now and even though he is taking a lot of pills, He's happy about being in control. So there's that.

Pills are safest solution for long-term mental stability, as only psychotherapy and psychoanalysis can really benefit mental health. There are no plasters or antibiotics for mental health or illnesses, so we can only do what is a known and successful working solution. Obviously optional, you do not have to take pills to thrive, it just helps.

The serotonin theory of depression is outdated, and it's become obvious that taking SSRI's is barely, if at all, better than not taking them. If you improve your environment and your life circumstances, your depression will most likely disappear. Some forms of melancholy depression are more difficult to treat, but regular depression seems to be mostly environmental. Humans are goal-oriented beings. Without a goal we start unraveling. If you are depressed, you need to find something to strive toward. Meaningful relationships, exercise and a healthy diet will help.

It helps with the chemical imbalance, i.e. providing the right amount of serotonin and chemicals necessary to aid you in your mental turmoil. Antidepressants help calm you down and if you take them on a regular basis, they are constantly in your system helping with the chemical imbalance. They aren't prescribed for any other reason other than to help assist you, because there is pretty much nothing else they can do for mental health or illnesses aside from therapy/counselling. What are you assuming so bad of medication, if I may ask?
2022-08-04 15:40
And with them you can be healthier in your mind to start the therapy and go to your session cool-headed. So, maybe it will come the day where you don't need your medications anymore because you did your research on yourself on psychotherapy.

Good for you but that's your choice. That isn't going to be the case for other people, so advising them to stop taking medication just because you do not believe in it is considered bad and incredibly selfish advice.
2022-08-04 16:01
+1 Any new sufferer or diagnosis of mental illness is recommended to seek therapy and take medication, though it is optional, it's just to help.

Yeah, it's OCD for me, too. ^^ Intrusive thoughts, I'm unofficially autistic, I have an anxiety disorder bar the fact that OCD is considered an anxiety disorder in itself; delusions and the odd panic/anxiety attack. The medication helps with the chemical imbalance, as well as generally calms you down. However it is important to remember that every will react to different medications differently than others. For me, Sertraline and Mirtazipine worked wonders but they didn't work for other people that I know who also took them.

not true at all, from the psychyatric medicine side and from my experience I know a lot of people that were using antidepressants and they are living their life normally today without them. This is myth and people belieive this is true but you cannot be addicted to antidepressants or something like that. Sometimes i forget to take them from pharmacy store for like 2-3 days and i dont feel any withdrawal symptoms or something, its just chill. Its like Ibuprofen xD

It's because of how the medication works in tandem with your placebo. They take a really long time to actually get into your system and therefore, coming off of medication has the adverse effect. Plus, your mind believes that you "need' to take them in order to thrive when that isn't the case at all, they just aid with the long-term. You can have mental illnesses without needing medication, though it would be more difficult if you have an episode of any kind.

Also, there are people that say "Now I feel pretty good so I will stop using them" and there comes the boom because your body is off of it too aggressive and too fast. Furthermore, people make analogy that this is addiction and it is not, this is how medications work.

Yes and that is a real problem actually... Others don't realise the medication is more suited to a permanent basis as opposed to a duration of, let's say antibiotics or steroids. You should take it enough for the medication to reach your system and then you should take it for as long as your Doctor recommends, as first time medication will usually come with decreases or increases in dosage.

Ouch... your body really didn't like Sertraline. xD I'm glad it helped you with anxiety, though. ^^ Sertraline, especially on the highest dosage, sort of acts as a dampener of emotions and can make you feel numb. I was on the maximum dosage for near enough a decade and I literally couldn't feel anger, I was just so lax about everything, even things that I should be feeling angry about. To be fair, that's kind of like me anyway but it was most definitely heightened by the maximum dosage of Sertraline, I obviously wouldn't know about the libido given my asexualism.

Yeah I got many side effects and in the end I don't think it was the sertraline that helped me get better because in 2017 I also got diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Basically low amount of thyroid hormones and a common sympton of that is depression. After I started taking medication for that, I also started to slowly lower my sertraline dosage and eventually in 2018 I stopped taking sertaline and only took medication for my thyroid. And since then I have felt decent, still a bit of anxiety in public situations etc but I've had that my whole life and is probably just cuz I'm an introvert

Ah, fair enough then. I'm really happy to hear that you are doing well despite the hyperthyroidism and occasional anxiety episodes, but those are to be expected in every day life for somebody who suffers with social anxiety or has an anxiety disorder in general. I too am an introvert, I try to keep myself busy and motivated, but otherwise I only really hang around with my friends, I don't really do all that well with new people or crowds in general. I'm exactly the same online as I am offline, so I tend to get nervous and when that happens, I'll usually lose track of my words.

It's a assessment I made based on many obvervations I made in life including my own experience. My mother also worked at a nursery station for mentally ill people and the stories she told, certainly informed why I say this. And also you can be delusional about me as well, it's not like I give a fuck about you or anyone else here. Do you think I'm here to learn? Hahahaha, this is just for fun for me. Nobody of you guys comes close. So keep being delusional, I don't give a fuck + it confirms what I thought about you earlier. You're just mad I didn't answer your PM and you tried to get "back at me". In fact, not only do I know psychology numerous times better than you, I also read you like a open book, youre very simple.

I think it's crystal clear that you do not care about anybody else except for yourself, which begs the question as to why even post on HLTV if intellectual or sensible discussions eludes you? You make unfair assumptions based upon your own "expertise" and then proclaim to know more despite your posts painting a different picture. Either you're lying, baiting or just being a troll... either way, it's truly a shame. The fact that you think I'm "mad" is clear proof you don't actually read my posts, there is nothing to be mad about.

"Lets just say, I have talent with this, which you dont have, I inherently understand these things a zillion times better than you, thats also why Im against drugs, which just battle symptoms and dont really help at all." > "instead of solving your solutions youre numbing them with pills. I mean are you that broken?" Yes, clearly your wisdom about mental health and your lack of knowledge involving medication go in tandem with one another... (!) It's not directly to sleep, it's a drowsy to aid with sleeping as intrusive thoughts are much harder to control at night-time, alone in the dark. It's not the case of you NEED them to sleep, they just aid in a better night's sleep.

I was one of the 'pills are bs just go outside' but clearly i was wrong, well guided medical assitance is super useful and i hope you will get better :)

I took meds for social anxiety and to sleep for 1 year and a half and it worked for me. Now I have other mental problems that bother me daily and it's painful but i'm not gonna seek ''help'' bc that would change my perspective of life and I don't want that. It is what it Is I guess

do you think it will help you? have you tried some therapies or anything?

It is helping me for 5 years straight. And yes, I am going to therapy since mi ilness came to my life and for me that was the best combo bcs medications make you cool-headed and "sober" so you can dig into yourself on therapy pretty clear minded. Since my well being is really well right now i go to therapy if needed sometimes.

I guarantee you that if you would move countryside, leave internet for a couple of months and instead focusing on gardening, raising chickens, enjoying nature etc. you wouldn't have these problems. I've had a few psychotic episodes, always when on heavy drugs, but I instantly knew that I was off-balance and needed some time in the nature. Sadly big pharma is farming money on you guys, hopefully you'll realize some day that there are other ways to increase baseline secretion of serotonin naturally, which is permanent, not artificially, which is only temporary.

I mean it’s definitely nowhere near your level and it’s technically not a mental illness, but I do take medication for study cause of ADD. I does work, but my appetite is fucked and my eating is really bad when I’m on it (as in getting enough food becomes harder because I get more picky and the food is consumed faster than normal). Socially, the medication changes me a lot but in a bad way. It almost feels like a totally different personality at times and I just cannot relax sometimes while on the medication (it is a stimulant though, so thats kinda the point). Basically, my medication helps for a learning disabilitiy but changes my personality in a way that I don’t intend, whereas for a mental illness changing the personality is kinda the whole idea. So for me the medication is kinda going to work on my brain more than i really require. I don’t seem to have many other options for now though, and it will be fine until I start working full time

I used to take ritalin when I was younger. Helped a lot to get my stuff together. Fortunately I didn't have to take it for more than a year or so before I learned to cope without. I am glad the meds are helping you, some ppl here don't seem to understand the value of that :)

My honest expirience, is about that I was used to take antidepressants, they got no real positive effect aside from no long term happiness, which I found out it has more negative effects on me than positive pones, one day i decide that was the last day i would use then, then i decided to grind my own and it really got better. I wouldn't say im out of depression disorder, but it got really better def.

I don't have any experience about that. But as a psychology student you should only take it with prescription. I know a lot of people that they're taking mood stabilizers like any pill. Take care with those things

What helps me when I sometimes feel depressed is my faith In Jesus as well as by reading the Bible. That's what helps me get through it and gets my mood up when I'm down. I think it is a infinitely better option than taking pills, and it can help other people as well if they gave it a try.

I am glad to hear that your faith in Jesus gets your mood up. :) But we have to remind ourselves that if something works for us we should not have to tell someone to go with the same flow and that its better for somebody to do things like we do because it maybe will not fork for him. :)

I know that not everyone will try this or want it, but it' definitely worth trying. I hope you give a try one day and give Jesus a chance. God bless either way.

going outside best pill
2022-08-05 08:57
Personally I think pills shouldnt be a prolonged cure, but just a temporary "bandaid" until you get the proper help, psychotherapy in most cases. I have no personal experience from taking pills but I have been depressed and I live with a person who had an arsenal of different pills for unstable personality disorder, depression and 2 different pill to help sleep. She has dropped every pill expect one for sleeping with a halved dosage since she started psychotherapy. It hurts to see how much it has helped her and how long she went through wrong treatments which didnt help at all, only cost her 4 years of her life being miserable. All the best brother!

Ye i agree because imo psychotherapy is the best way to solve any mental ilnesses. I am not only on pills and i did not accept life in which i will be only a part of but the life i will live to the fullest. :) Thank you brother! <3

My doctor prescribed me some antidepressants some time ago, but when i took them, they gave me insane nightmares that I do not wish to relive again. So I quit. Life is going better vs what was going on back then so Don't rly need them anymore. I have nothing against them, if they work and help you, they work and help you. You do you.

I cant remember the name of the pill, will try to remember to check when I get home. But the kind of dreams I had were always the same "genre" Getting chased by people I know/like/love, wanting to murder me in numerous different ways. Very terrifying. Ofcourse I had nightmares before, but never like this, it felt way more real than any other nightmare and actually impacted my mornings, couldnt stop thinking about them untill later that day.

Its probably a lot of things that are locked away in my memories. I didnt have a fun childhood age 0-12 and its very hard to remember things from pre-16y. The medication most likely unlocked some parts and took over in my dreams trying to process it (which i never did) I am fine though atm, things are going great. Still not took the time to process my history and sometimes it gets difficult, but its not thát hard to live with it. Its a more in-the-moment kind of thing. Like something happens now, which give me some kind of a flashback or I overreact to something and regret it right away, but i realize its somewhat linked to what happened all those years ago. So that day is kinda ruined for me. Next day im fine.

No, was prescribed daily use of Ritalin for my ADD in high school but I never took it because I didn't want to need pills to be normal and now I'm 23 and my ADD has literally 0 impact on anything in my life, I attend Uni, got a side job, social life's great, they just want to drown you in pills for profit, if you put your mind to it most of that shit you can work out by looking in the mirror and working on yourself

usually when something is "wrong" I take a walk, or a run, or some other physical activity Participating in a sport or physical activity is very powerful, like fighting classes, boxing, Kickbox, or literally anything challenging with other people. Getting engaged into something that is fun and social that fits your interests, is usually the way to properly deal with bad thoughts, simply because there is no time left for those thoughts when you do something you enjoy.
2022-08-10 00:52
it doesent have to be physical, but it has to be about skill building, learning and the social interaction required for it. That will distract your mind a lot. You can only process so much at a time. it could be anything, but its your responsibility to guide and lead your self into habits that conduces a positive state of mind that distracts and leaves less time for the dark side of your mind. Make it a habit and it will do wonders
