I am surprised you were able to attempt to sleep with 4 whole hours passing by. The most that happened to be was like 1hour and then i just did something else and went to sleep later.

force yourself to allocate 9 hours for sleep. 8 hours sleep, 30 mins setting alarms, preparing clothes etc before you sleep and 30 mins in the morning for brushing your teeth, showering etc.
before you go to bed, you should have spent your day doing something that you need recovering from, like work or gym. if you sit around the rest of the day after school or work where you only sit until you clock out at 16, you will have bad sleep. you dont even have to do much, just something.

Can you be sure? Sometimes I fall in and out of consciousness but it feels like I've just been awake the entire time.
Had same problem before, then someone told me that laying in bed and trying to sleep actually is considered getting recovery. So after that I stopped worrying about not getting sleep and now I sleep like a baby.
