f1 finally really arrived in cowboyland, they got tired of watching boring ass nascar which is probably the most boring motorsport in human history. drive to survive happened no more hamilton/mercedes domination a lot of young relatable drivers that are connected to their fans with social media and even twitch youtube channel is massive, with challenges, race highlights and nostalgic moments etc. overall liberty media has done an insane job marketing wise since taking over

F1 is quite boring, it's not an oval and requires skill, but really hard to surpass other cars more than with race tactics and pit stops.

It wasn't that boring before but now that the cars are so advanced those mean more than drivers. Who has the best car will win no matter who is on the driver's seat. It's been like this for more than 10 years.

Lando is only son of millionaire. Tho I dont think the likes of Albon (lol), Ricciardo, Leclerc, even Sainz/Max came from very wealthy backgrounds they had some connections and a good amount of money but a lot was bet on their success. Without Jules’s help maybe Leclerc doesn’t make it or if max/sainz weren’t sons of prominent racers they dont make it, but they didn’t have infinite funds like other worse races stuck in F2, F3 also they always had the talent to make it. This is of course unlike guys like Sirotkin, Mazepin, Latifi,

you don't have to be super rich though. If you find someone who can sponsor you through your karting career and you are a big talent you might still make it to f1. (it's still biased but it's not impossible)

You probably need like 10-100k put into karting to get a chance to get into those driver academies, but yeah if you have the talent and can make it work with less resources it is (easy lol) possible if you have enough skill to make it to the top. I mean Hamilton wasn’t poor, but his parents weren’t particularly rich enough to support him past karting if I remember correctly (his dad was like working 2 jobs as a dentist and something else making good money but not enough for like Karting and beyond were seats cost in the 6 figures easy).

You need enough money to make it through karting (tho even that is insanely expensive I think it costs like 100k usd to get a top tier kart over the year or something like that and new tires are like 5k) But if you have the talent and can somehow show it off in karting you can get into an academy and make it to f1 without needing a lot of money. Ofc if you are rich you are guaranteed spots in the feeder series and have more chances.

The best driver ever in the history of the sport had his karting carreer (if you dont know its the first junior to get into f1) by his dad workind extra jobs, and went through the feeder series supported by young drivers programmes Sergio Perez also wen0t through the programmes and got the ttention of a Mexican billionire who decided to help. 2 time world champion and widely known as one of the most tallented drivers of ll time Fernando Alonso also had a similar pathing. just few examples

Sure, but even then, they need strong sponsors to back them up and those sponsors should get interested on burn money to appeal people through F1, usually companies from same country of the driver, when they are gone, the pilot usually lose their spot even if they are good. Dani clos, who arrived as a test driver in the F1 have one video in youtube(spanish) explaining how much it cost to get there and how he couldn't find sponsor because all the spanish ones where behind Alonso, and it's a ton of money.

Yes you need to find sponsors and programmes, and that isn't easy. But being a top athlete in the sport when only 20 people can shouldnt be. Never claimed it wasn't easy. Just said that it isn't necessarily a billionaire's club

new netflix fans are cringe, but it saved the sport. liberty made f1 easier to comprehend and get into so it became a lot more mainstream, especially in the us. thats why we'll have 35 races where 10 off them are in the us. if bernie was in control the sport would be better, but the viewership would be 50x smaller and the financial security would be questionable

There is alot of skill involved in Golf, i can bare to watch the best playing. Not that i like it but i found it a bit more interesting than cars to go round and round with little to no action most of the time. I prefer watching Rally cars wise
2022-08-06 01:35

i agree there's oftentimes way too many laps in the F1 races, but to say there's skill in golf but not F1 simply because there are too many laps, is pretty naive. Try racing a formula 1 car in VR w/ force feedback steering wheel, no traditional power steering, no antilock brakes, no traction control, and then tell me how easy it is compared to golf, lol. I do agree that rally is insane, though. I love trying out different cars/tracks in assetto corsa in VR and seeing the wide range of skills drivers need in different motorsport classes.
2022-08-06 01:40

I never said theres no skill with being a driver but usually the drivers with the best cars win 80% or more of the time. In golf you cant win because you got the best stick so theres a huge difference there to begin with.

netflix series saved F1, it was becoming a borefest
2022-08-06 01:31
IDK but i'm glad my girlfriend got me into it a couple years ago. now, i drive the race tracks each week in VR on assetto corsa in the 2022 car by racesimstudio and see if i can get even close to the lap times these guys are doing. it's fun.

man, you can put any f1 driver in the RB car, everyone will be 1 or 2 seconds slower than Verstappen, with or without team orders except Hamilton, who will be atleast 4 or 5 tenths slower than him, but there isn't too many things to do now, as it is 9 races left and verstappen is 80 points ahead of Leclerc, and he just needs to win 5 of these 9 races to claim the title, as he alredy won 8 races the fun is on the midfield these years, because on the battle for the title, what its really interesting, there will be no battle like 2021 which was really interesting
2022-08-06 14:59

1-2 seconds that is a stretch but I agree Verstappen is probably the most talented one out there, he was doing way better than his team mates through his whole career. But still it remains it's a car based sport and it has been since early 2000s.

It will never ever ever ever happen by remove traction control or any type of ECU that regulates traction, that way even slower cars with better drivers can have a better showing and the manufacturers will still get to advertise their cars. But it will never happen.

DTS, Liberty media, its easy
2022-08-06 02:15
Last year and so far this year the races have been a lot more competitive, before that one team was dominating big time which really took any excitement over who would win away. Also, as others has also mentioned, on Netflix there is a series called Drive to survive - it introduced F1 to lots of people that did not watch before and people learned a lot about some of the drivers, suddenly making them interested in F1. Regardless though - I highly recommend watching Indycar and also the IMSA series of endurance races, both series are more exciting than F1 and there is much more competition as well. Like in Indycar they had like 10 different winners in 10 races or so, it really is that close.

I'd disagree. The only domination we had was 2014-2016 (2020 too) Mercedes, from then on Ferrari/Red Bull have always been there or there abouts they just ran into prime Lewis Hamilton

You're kidding. There was a Ferrari era 2000-2004 A Red Bull one 2010-2013 and then we have had the Mercedes era 2014-2020 (And this includes 2021 if we just take the team championship). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_On.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Formula_On.. And as for Lewis Hamilton. He is good and sometimes amazing, but much is about the car so many times he has only really competed against his team mate (often with the cards stacked in his favor). If Lewis was all that, then where is he now - he is not even the best of his team.

So you're basing it on numbers purely oki. Ferrari had a competetive car in 2015-2017, and had a championship winning car 2018 and 2019 had it not been illegal. The 2020 car was still decent, Leclerc showed it's true pace while Vettel had his worst year. Red Bull were always there from 2016 onwards, and had a championship winning car in 2021. The fact that Mercedes won the constructors doesn't mean they were dominating or that they had the fastest car. And as for your point about Lewis, how can you not see he's the best in the team? He would have won in Silverstone without the safety car, in Hungary had there been a few more laps, maybe even in Spain had he not been taken out by Magnussen. He's outpaced Russell on race pace consistantly throughout the season, he just struggled with a worse car than he was used to at the start of the season (and he was running more sensors and experimental setups but as no one seems to believe the facts I leave that out).
2022-08-06 14:10

"taken out by Magnussen" lmao maybe try not to understeer your car
2022-08-06 14:38
LOL Of course I am using numbers, they are what matter when you count who won and who lost. All your 'what if', and 'almost' and 'was it not for' thinking is just anecdotes that doesn't matter. Like when you suggest Ferrari would have been winning was it for their car being illegal, that is really an argument which makes no sense - they were fast because they did not follow the rules so of course they were not winners. If Hamilton had been driving a Williams he would not have become champion once, but he didn't so that thinking is irrelevant as well. And as for me comparing Hamilton with his teammate, we are so far into the season that luck or bad luck is not really that much of an excuse anymore.

The 2019 Ferrari was indeed a winning car, it was just illegal. That is a fact. And using numbers is fine, just don't say it's been complete domination by Merc when it hasn't. Had Hamilton been driving that 2015/16/17 Williams I actually have full faith he would've won the championship in that actually but that's beside the point. I never actually mentioned bad luck for Hamilton when comparing him to Russell, I just said Hamilton has been outpacing him consistantly when he is not running heavier sensors or an experimental setup. It's been even more obvious in the past few races. So. Mercedes have not "dominated big time" as you suggested. They've been winning, but from 2016 onwards (even 2015) there has been another team to challenge them at all times (excluding 2020 because the W11 was a masterpiece).
2022-08-06 16:15
1 reply
"just illegal" - let just stop right there. In no way is something illegal is to be seen as a relevant, if rules don't matter then it all becomes rather silly so there is no "just". As for Mercedes domination, which years in 2014-2021 years Mercedes had not wrapped up the championship way before the end of the season? Or for that matter in which 2014-2020 years did their drivers not take both first and second place in the championship? The year 2021 marked the end of Mercedes domination although they did manage to still win as a team, it was the first year for a long time where the F1 competition was actually interesting. Only it is really that if for once not a given who wins in F1, by comparison Indycar offers a lot closer competition, has done so for like forever and it is the same here in 2022. In Indycar there has been 13 races so far, they have been won by 8 different drivers and 9 different drivers have had the pole position.
2022-08-06 16:34
It can be a nice entertainment for those who enjoy it but its not a sport. Theres no competition since everyone isnt on equal foot = boring for me

The netflix garbage probably. F1 is incredibly boring to watch AND on top of that the cars are not equal which is very off putting and makes the whole thing just a pretend competition. Sports in general is fucking boring as shit to watch. Only interesting part is biggest football tournaments (Euro and World Cup).
