CSGO in olympics
 |
United Kingdom _xC4ctus
abc.net.au/news/2022-08-08/commonwealth-.. esports like dota 2 and rocket league was played during the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. other esports could be introduced in the next commonwealth games 2026. Perhaps this could be the start of esports/CSGO in big sport events. possibly even bigger than majors and intel grand slams. would be cool. every 4 years. Thoughts?

If its like WESG and teams actually went to compete it would be interesting tho squads like C9 and Astralis have a huge advantage.

Just make rules like only 2 players from each team maximum.

I mean in other sports this also happens though Like germany has 1/2 Bayern Munich players... And it used to be a lot worse.

I don't think the comparison with football is valid. I would love to see Denmark with 2 players from Astralis, 2 from Heroic and 1 from Ence (Snappi), Brazil with 2 from Furia, 2 from 00Nation and 1 from some other team etc.

Tell this to blameF xD Anyway, I agree with you that comparing these two is totally bullshit, but you gotta respect the grind. Pro players playing 8-12 hours a day, it's not just a video game for them. Anyway, where did he say that? He just said that should be a bigger event in csgo every 4 years like the Olympics. Having some difficulties with english buddy?

esport gamers are being called athletes now. they are competing with others but without intense physical movements. I play casually, but some grind day and night, so it would make sense that their efforts would be rewarded. Look at chess. Chess is recognized as a sport but all you do is move wooden pieces. didnt compare sport athletes and esport athletes rather i suggested esports becoming part of big sporting events.

video gamers are not athletes. those people that play football in the park are not athletes. however, professional video gamers are athletes. just like professional sportsman/woman.

not trolling im actually dead serious. news reporters were literally calling professional esport gamers athletes. theyre wrong but also not in a way. things evolve and change over years. maybe e-athletes if people despise that idea of calling them athletes.

Are they professional in an athletic or physical sport? No? Then they are not athletes. It is in the name bro. i dont want to discredit cs players, please dont get me wrong, i just have a huge respect for actual top athletes who spent their entire lifes working out, pushing their limits physically and mentally to be called a pro athlete. if you put that on the same level as someone like m0NESY who was a pro at 16 by literally sitting in front of his screen playing a video game all day, you're insulting actual athletes. as you said, mayb e-athletes could be an acceptable term, but by definition, professional video gamers are not athletes. ill stop here because im repeating myself.

Unfortunately, no matter how much i agree with you, today everything is being normalised and soon it'll be the norm to call professional gamers as athletes. Full respect to cs pro players bcz they work to stay at the top level and dedicate a lot of time to cs but it's not at all the same as athletes who do actual physical activity

thats a physical sport, you need to be in shape. try to hold a rifle in a combat stance for more than 30 seconds steady with your puny arms without shivering and shaking. please guys, stop this nonsense, professional video gamers, are professional video gamers, they are not athletes.

Yes sure, but very comparable to gaming I'd say. You are neglecting the physical effort of playing CS way too much though. It's not a board game.

"Esports and e-athletes" who works as hard as athletes to achieve something in life.
2022-08-11 13:03
I doubt it will happen as the commonwealth games are broadcast on tv And csgo always had a hard time with sponsors because of its "non family friendly" nature/violence

Esports at the Olympics would be great in the same way that having non-traditional sports at the Olympics already has helped parents to understand them, see them as a legitimate career path etc Couple of things to consider: 1) Who is going to run it? Many of the people with industry experience are busy doing their actual jobs and the fear is outsiders coming in will make mistakes or worse just be in it for the money (there were criticisms of the GEF, who ran the CEC event, specifically along those lines) 2) Will CSGO fit these large sporting tournaments? Its being an M-rated / 16+ only game is restrictive in that sense

it would be an amazing thing to see. esports and sports shaking hands. despite all the hate esports receive, the scene is massive. the profit i could see organisers obtain is vast but since its only the beginning it wont be as huge. I do see the issues brought up if CSGO were to be implemented in huge sporting events however I don’t think its as bloody or violent. Perhaps valve could compromise and change the ts and cts name and reduce blood? there are many sports where guns are used i think so if its the blood and name it can easily be changed.

every legend comes and go. like in football world cup. you probably only get to play 2-3 in your life maybe 4 i think. imagine s1mple 0 olympic fallen 1 olympic. or BR CSGO 1 OLYMPIC UK CSGO 0 OLYMPICS. long but much more prestigious.
2022-08-11 12:36

It's not a question of whether legends come or not, it's a question that in an e-sport where in many countries (non-European) pro players start their careers at an older age and pro players in e-sports end their careers faster (generally with 30, 31 years old), while in traditional sports like football, for example, there are those who are 40, 41 years old and still play professionally... Imagine having an event every 4 years in a category where a pro will only be able to play if he's lucky 2 editions only, it wouldn't be maintained, and the community is immediatist, they would never wait
2022-08-11 22:03
Every 4 years for any sport is a long time. But maybe e-sport has even shorter cycle than many of the traditional sports.

While your argument is fair in many cases, there definitely are sports in olympics where older people have next to no chances to get medals if even compete at that level. Gymnastics comes to mind as first. Skateboarding or snowboarding. Boxing maybe. You get the point.

Not gonna happen since it's a realistic shooter game. Majority of people still think csgo is the reason behind violence etc...
2022-08-11 12:45
It's a game that mentions terrorists, and there's blood, I doubt it happens. And honestly, esports shouldn't be in the Olympics, the Olympics should be about physical sports, not even chess should be a part of it

2022-08-11 13:06
Realistically speaking there is no chance of this happening. Not until e-sports reaches football levels of competition in amateur and pro systems. Which may never happen. Especially in such a fractured playerbase between games we have right now. Now, could there be "e-sport olympics", which brings all the biggest e-sports under same roof once every 4 years? Possibly. But can't see even that happening any time soon, especially because the game developers will be incapable to cooperation in this kind of levels.
2022-08-11 13:09
1 reply
Yea developers are not able to cooperate with their own communities and scenes, I cant imagine getting Valve, Tencent, Activision etc. behind one table to discuss one particular event with some guys in suits who have barely any idea about videogames, pure utopia, maybe smaller developers but definitely not the biggest ones, which would make esport Olympics joke.
2022-08-11 14:14
No. It would just ruin current csgo circuit with making one the biggest events nationally restricted, plus Olympics never allow game with terrorist. And whole Olympic Games are super dirty and disguising.

I don’t think so. Making CSGO even more mainstream to that point would ruin the charm. Just even more corporate than it already is. Also the national team thing is being left behind atm.

Even if it happens it's going to be as irrelevant as the football olympics. Remember who holds the current olympic gold medal in Football? I at least don't But FIFA World Cup is the thing we remember. Same thing is gonna happen if CS got olympic. Nobody cares: Major > Olympia
2022-08-11 14:22
Esports has nothing to do with olympics, it should stay its own
2022-08-11 14:25
I don't think any professional sports organization will what to associate themselves with promoting playable "terrorists" trying to plant a bomb and blow something up. Actually I don't think they would want to associate with FPS games at all Is it stupid? Yeah, but it's also a major brand risk
