If you live in US

if you had to live in america, which state would your preferred destination be? please no insults regarding the US, every country has its problems, we know that, its not the point of this thread.

You have to admit, the direction the country is going in, is quite scary. The division between republicans and democrats is growing.

Agreed, but the main result of a lot of the bad actions is that Republican states get shittier, and Democrat states improve things in political response.

2022-08-28 10:28
Can you give just one example of each please? One red state that has "got shittier" and one blue state that has "improved things in political response"? I ask because my external observation doesn't line up with this, but of course, it is external and from a distance. It should go without saying that I don't have any skin in the game here as a Brit.

That is solely due to high costs of living. When people want to live somewhere and there's a limited supply of housing it gets expensive and people move. Has nothing to do with QoL per state, in which dem states are at the top.

affordability and living in actual homes is a pretty big part in QOL bro
2022-08-28 04:49
13 replies
No. Switzerland being insanely expensive doesn't diminish the QoL. If somewhere is fun and trendy to live with high salaries and opportunities, and you just cannot build anymore like in NYC which is already extremely dense, then it's expensive. Cheap places, like in Eastern Europe of Mississippi, are dogshit. And even in the "mass California and New York exodus" they move to democrat cities like Austin.
2022-08-28 05:05

Being able to actually comfortably afford where you live has nothing to do with QOL ?
2022-08-28 05:55

Do you think the salaries are the same?
2022-08-28 06:43
Places that are expensive to live are because it’s desirable to live there aka QoL is high
2022-08-28 11:59
Switzerland isn’t expensive for the Swiss. NYC is expensive for New Yorkers, LA is expensive for its population, that’s the thing.

Average California salary is $111k. The median salary is $78k. Average 1 bedroom apartment rent is $1k-$2k. If you can't afford it, move. The difference between Switzerland and California is Switzerland has affordable housing for homeless people. Americans are the richest in the world. The reason most people move is because they want more money, not because they will legitimately lose their homes if they don't immediately move.

+1 nobody in the fly over states takes the costal states seriously lul California is a dumpster fire hobo hotel and influencer daycare center. were secretly talking about cutting it off from the main land and putting up 100 foot walls around the entire state so that everything dies off and will let nature take it back. you know for echo friendly purposes.
2022-09-06 15:52
California ranks number 13 out of 50 states for salaries on ZipRecruiter. As of Aug 22, the average annual salary in California is $61,755. Just in case you need a simple salary calculator, that works out to be approximately $29.69 an hour. This is equivalent of $1,187 a week or $5,146 a month. Says google, after taxes what is that? 40-45? Imagine paying 25k of that for a 1bedroom apartment xd

2022-08-28 23:32
Sure. Red states ban abortion -> Blue states make it easier and better to afford Red states don't give a fuck about gun violence -> Blue states tighten laws and spend millions on mental health funding Just California itself has universal health coverage, free school lunches, free community college, the best public school system in the world, massive clean energy improvements, etc.

Somehow the cities with most gun violence are all Democratic states with gun control? 247wallst.com/special-report/2019/08/04/.. Think only 2 out of the 10 worst states (regarding gun violence specifically) are Republican. Didn't check all so feel free to correct on that if you have the time and energy to look it up. But I think it's pretty safe to say gun control doesn't give any extra safety - it only gives the criminal an insurmountable advantage. I wish we could have guns over here, maybe people could defend themselves from the shootings we have every day in Sweden now.
2022-09-07 02:34
the reason states are getting worse is because of democratic rule my brother. Go look at every miserable state with gun violence and bad surroundings to live in and awful living prices . its the heavily democratic states. all you have to do is look at the electoral votes, democratic states are losing a lot of numbers because the populations are decreasing in those states and the more rural suburb kinda life is getting more popular and safer nowadays and they are gaining numbers. its just facts.

You're not respond because I'm about to own you, but: The states with the most firearm violence by far are deep red Republican states: cdc.gov/nchs/pressroom/sosmap/firearm_mo.. The states with the lowest lifespans by far are deep red Republican states: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._state.. The states with the best education, safety, highest incomes, highest lifespans, lowest obesity rates, and best QoL are overwhelmingly democrat: americandreamprosperity.com/rankings/sta.. Hope you learned from the Fox News brainwashing. Republican states will forever be dogshit by every piece of available data.

This dude tried to claim the other day that Biden has had a good presidency because he passed a lot of bills with big price tags. I then explained to him what was in each of those bills and how they wildly misappropriated money, and he didn’t reply. He’s a pseudo intellectual on the internet and there’s no reason to attempt to engage in any sort of civil discourse with him.

Oh yeah you were the idiot going: "Ummm it's expensive so no infrastructure, no climate change progress, no competition with China. It's also factually impossible for the IRA, which is the only fully partisan bill, to raise the deficit with increasing IRS audits and the 15% corporate tax. Yikes. Educate yourself.

Even using their names in the same sentence like they are similar is evidence of this derangement. Trump has been anti-war even during Bush-era, and was anti-war during his presidency. Bush was a puppet, just like Biden. Trump wasn't a puppet, therefore the establishment worked against him and spread fake news like the Russia hoax, he got blamed for things Obama did for example. Meanwhile they don't care about the corruption of Hillary or Biden's son. If you have above 30 IQ you can see who is the puppet and who isn't. Not that I expect that of you.

That's because it's expensive because they're desirable to live and have high salaries. That's literally the only reason. It's basic supply and demand. No one is moving to "Texas broooo it's the best!" All the smart people are moving to Austin, which is largely democrat. Who would want to live in a desert hellhole with abortion banned, weed gets you 10 years in jail, psychos can buy AR 15's at walmart, and the privatized power grid shuts down when it gets cold or hot.

I like open people who are smiling during the day ( this is why i like Cluj > Bucharest any day over here, in Bucharest people are very stressed and kinda burned out ) I love sports, I love basketball and football ( soccer but I won't mind going to american football ) Now..you tell me where should I live hehe Also I like bigdawstv, Steven and topnotchidiots

Idk who the last 3 are but generally if you’re looking for that type of weather and sports I would say a decent sized city in the Great Lakes region. Plenty of beaches (though some can be very rocky) and if you live in a college city then there are plenty of sports, or if you live in a big city there are probably a decent amount of pro sports

interesting... I think maybe northern california. It's far north enough to be cool in the winter, but not so far north so the summers still get warm. You could be by a beach (although the Pacific in that area is very cold, but good surfing). The local NBA team is the Golden State Warriors (NBA Champs last year) and they have the San Francisco 49ers (american football) or you could support the Seattle Seahawks (bit farther north). Not sure about soccer. People in general would have a slightly more relaxed attitude being on the west coast - think silicon valley (north west) as opposed to wall street (north east).

I will reply for #41 as well here. Well, first off, that rocky beaches? Won't mind at all. I'm a huge Bulls fan, I was too little when Jordan & Rodman dominated the league along Pippen but that bad boy attitude from Ben Gordon, Taj Gibson, Noah or Rose made me fall in love with the team. If people on the west coast are more relaxed, then that's for me. I like relaxed and chill people during the day, during the night I can be in some raves mood sometimes haha. Where do you guys live?

Yeah i know mate, 330m inhaibtants ofcourse there will be some weirdos, we have them here aswell. I just think it would be easier for me to adapt and integrate well if i lived in a state that resembled my core values to a larger extent. That being said ive never been to the us so its possible that i would like it more somewhere else. For example im not a city-person and might find more similarities with people on the countryside in the mid west than i would with a person raised in central Boston. I guess every place has their pros and cons.

idk, i was looking at house listing in the US (interesting to see the differences compared to europe) and i went to oklahoma, because i knew nothing about it, and to me it seemed like the most deserted and destitute place. all the listings looked really old and run down. perhaps this one experience left too much of an imprint on me and its actually not that bad, but after seeing tiger king, which also happened to take place in oklahoma, i just came to the conclusion that oklahoma is a worse texas. i think texas is cool though. another state i probably wouldnt want to live in is utah - same reasons as oklahoma. both states look really alien for some reason.

i'm actually lol-ing. Just funny to hear someone from another country's impression of Oklahoma based on house listing and Tiger King. Honestly, i'm not being defensive, actually find it funny. Truth is Oklahoma has some decent parts and some drab parts. Scenery wise, the west half is as non-scenic as you get, but the eastern side has some really pretty parts, especially the south east corner. As for Utah, I lived there for 6 years so I've seen quite a lot of it. It honestly has some of the most scenic areas in the country, from snow-capped mountains, to red-rock deserts. But it's a unique and not everyone would like it. But it has some national parks that are amazing, like google.com/maps/place/Zion+National+Park../data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80caead08844f8d9:0x7c2e3a15aa3656f5!8m2!3d37.2982022!4d-113.0263005 google.com/maps/place/Canyonlands+Nation../data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x8747e1ee4518a6a9:0x15a452a9c502e6aa!8m2!3d38.2135733!4d-109.9025345 google.com/maps/place/Arches+National+Pa../data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x80caf61a860daa51:0x4f42ea69d128c495!8m2!3d38.733081!4d-109.5925139 some of these areas definitely have an 'alien' vibe so I get what you're saying...lol

its cool, im not hating, and i understand if someone would get defensive over my statement - it sounds really shallow and narrow-minded. basing an opinion about a whole state on some house listings is as dumb as it gets. i bet oklahoma is has its beautiful parts, all in all i think that america is one of the most beautiful countries. its just that from looking at listings and some google streetview, i think that oklahoma is pretty unimpressive. when it comes to utah, i have actually watched a couple of videos on yt that took place in utah, and i just dont like the scenery, i guess. very barren and desert-like from what i can remember. one video was about a ghost town... and it probably became one because the area around it happened to be or become so barren. but its impossible for me to judge, really. its like this one comment i read somewhere where an american said under a video about the german side of the alps: "i cant believe that germany is that beautiful" and i was like "yeah its always been like that, you just never visited" they probably have only seen videos or pictures of cities or farms - pretty boring. so probably i fell to the same fallacy as they did and based my whole opinion on a select few impressions the national parks you posted are stunning btw changed my view on utah tbh

Don't worry man, I agree with you. Utah and Oklahoma aren't our best. Utah is not as bad QoL wise as Oklahoma but is filled with religious Mormon nuts and is very boring looking. The best middle-state is without a doubt Colorado.

Bruh, here in Moscow we have all the fkcing food you can ever imagine and we adapted it so much better than it is in places where it came from. Believe me or not but Moscow is one of the gastronomic capitals of the world while Miami is just meh. Only 2-3 cities in US can compete with Moscow in the food range, quality and style. So don't fkcing reply if you don't have a clue what are you talking about, I'm not telling about eating 3 times/day some random burritos and other bs. Ofc that doesn't mean there's no any sick Cuban food places somewhere in Miami.

Sry, didn't mean to be offensive on that, but any european would think this way when comes to the US. The quality of food in grocery stores, cafes and low tier restraunts is just uncomparable to Europe. Lots of refined fats, sugar all fried in oil. Of course we are not speaking of top-tier restraunts, but the day-to-day meal routine. Diversity does not equal the quality. Go to Italy and try their food, trust me it's way different from what you think Italian food is based on "little Italy" cafes in Queens. I've been to the US several times, the country and the people were just great. But I couldn't adjust to the food. Hope my rant does not seem rude.

2022-08-12 10:03
Some northern state that has a good weather (4 seasons without constant heat), low crime rate, low population density. Probably it would be Montana. Could consider Washington, Maine, both Dakota's and maybe something else like Colorado. Wouldn't live on any of coast for sure, could visit both oceans and Mexican Bay for some holidays tho.

Where I live right now, in Atlanta, Georgia! Cities like LA or NYC are just too damn overcrowded/high living cost/pollution. Meanwhile, a city like Atlanta is perfect. Diversity like major cities, not extra overcrowded, good living cost. Speaking of which, I wouldn't mind living in Houston, Texas because of this as well. But their architecture and public design is pretty awful.
2022-08-12 15:31
If it based on serials or films i watched it would be ( i know about some of them - cities, not state's ) Miami, New Mexico, Texas, Atlanta and Georgia in general. LA or NYC is too simple answer. But if not chose place to live based on cinema I would consider the following factors: 1) Local gun laws 2) Local weed laws 3) Who dominates in the state? ( left, right ) 4) Rent cost 5) Environmental condition, infrastructure etc

2022-08-12 20:02
3 replies
Highest salaries, wealthiest population in the world, better jobs, more opportunities, more fun, more diversity. Europeans understand this and move to US at 3x the rate Americans move to Europe. Like, if you asked me, "Why wouldn't you move to perfect utopia EU?" I would say that I'd be poor, I don't like racism or introverted antisocial people, and the weather would be suicide inducing. Some parts of EU are better for poor people though.

Already lived in the U.S for a year a long time ago as an exchange student. I was in Minnesota but got to travel to over 16 states throughout my stay and they sure are VERY different. American people are overly friendly and optimistic, like the Japanese, but have a lot more individualism. Hence the loud American trope. Like you can walk down the street and start a random conversation with anybody. That's why a lot of Europeans say we all act fake because of the culture clash.

I grew up in t3 city and use to bicycle to commute to school. Most of kids did, rich affluent school had school busses. Ofc, India has major issues in certain states regarding safety of children but that's saying 'Oh, school shooting happens in every school of USa' which is an true statement. My choices comes from lack of knowledge of all states and reservation against glorification of famous ones.

Lived in the US for almost my entire life, so you pretty much call me an American. Lived in Austin, TX, and i absolutely loved every moment i had living in the US. The insane amount of diversity you get there is unlike any other country. I had friends from Mexico, Brazil, India, Germany etc and it kept on growing. The food options were also immaculate, and overall, the US was an incredible place for me to live, and hopefully i'll be returning there very soon for either my University, or just to find a job and go back, visit my home country because that's where i TRULY belong. Also, it's easily the MOST overhated country in the world.

+1 same exact experience People don't get the pure and unique and vast diversity in America. The people are extremely friendly and outgoing and it's the land of immigrants. Every type of person, climate, environment, job, and opportunity is here. If you want a mega metropolis city you have New York, party beach you have Miami, Texas town you have Austin, California you have SF and LA, tropical vacation you have Hawaii, Russian experience you have Alaska, gambling degeneracy you have Las Vegas, snowy alps you have Colorado. It's endless. You can move or visit any at any time. It has many problems, but it is severely overhated due to dominating the media, which feeds off negative news for clicks. News outlets show the craziest news to AMERICANS to shock them, then other nationalities see it and think that's daily life here. Glad you enjoyed mens ))
2022-08-28 12:08
3 replies
Absolutely. It is a shame how much of the media domination has forced to convert the image of the US to a very negative one. The same goes for alot of 3rd world countries too, including Pakistan, while the reality is a very different one. Sure, the US has it's fair share of problems, which are increasing day by day, but the country continues to prosper and do well nevertheless, no matter how shit the government gets. Which is why i enjoyed every single second i had in the country, and makes me feel proud to call myself an American, despite the shitty things we have done and continue to do so, the amount of things it has provided to not just US citizens itself but to the immigrants aswell shows why it's the best country to hop over as an immigrant. My parents sacrificed alot just for the betterment of my future, and i'm sure that's the story for 99% of the immigrants in the country. I really hope i'll be back soon, because there isn't a day where i miss the country.

Whats funny is immigrants and visitors adore the US while some Americans dream about living in other countries. My girlfriend's sister was one of those brainlets that moved to Canada when Trump went in office. Now she moved back lmao. It feels like the Americans that do cry and say were awful have a bad case of spoiled child syndrome. They've never seen or even had to deal with some of the struggles that other countries have to deal with so a minor incident is now the end of the world. Very very odd. Glad you love the US so much my friend. Hope you can come back soon

Lmao, i personally know a friend who did the exact same during Trump's time, he had some of his family already living in Montreal, so he and his family decided to move along with them there and then they realized how much of a dumb decision that was, lmao. It really makes me angry to see our fellow Americans cry over our country while having every single privilege anyone from a 3rd world country could think of. Moving to Pakistan really made me thankful for everything i had in the US, and i hope once i get rid of all the family issues (which is why i moved here), i'll be going to the US ASAP because of how much i love and miss the place.

No one is afraid to send their kids to school. 10-20 out of 50 million people age 5-18 die in school shootings yearly. You're just gullible and easily fooled by the media due to your lackluster education in an undeveloped country. But I would be extremely afraid of myself, my mom, or a kid going to India. Like everyone else in the developed world. That sounds extremely terrifying and dangerous. I couldn't even imagine being a woman or a child and walking in India alone at night. You guys are the sexual violence capital of the world. timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/delhi/s..

Depends, Im looking at moving to New Hampshire. New England is gorgeous and NH has amazing gun laws (or lack there of), which is great for my hobbies and business. To visit would be California, I lived there most of my life, its gone down the shithole but theres so much to do in the big areas. Really hard to beat. Just dont live there if you like not being taxed up the ass and dealing with homeless people

+1 it's such a cool fucking city. Every type of job, opportunity, person, food, etc. is there. Legit the capital of the world.

In terms of landscape and climate, Alaskan panhandle or New Hampshire are legit. I am also quite introverted and like to be left alone, so having the space would be cool.

Owning a large property in Texas, buying an AR-15, and then when anyone comes near, you come out with a cowboy hat on and the gun and yell "GET THE FUCK OFF MY PROPERTY" And then you go in, eat some bbq, and have sex with your wife.

For one I wouldn't want to live in a backwards state so that elimates most Republican places. Also, I'm british and cant handle hot weather so that elimates most of the south and central states. I wouldn't mind a state that has alot of woodlands aswell, i like going for hikes, runs and camping trips. I think states like Washington, Michigan, Tennessee, Oregon, minnesota, New Jersey, New York or Delaware. If there are any muricans lurking, anything you can tell me about the states I've listed, I have seriously considered moving to the US after I've finished university

Yeah sure, I've lived in Washington and New York. I'd rank the states as: New York, then Washington, then Oregon, then New Jersey. The rest are mid or bad. New York especially stands out for fun and excitement, Washington is more chill, serene, and peaceful. Washington: -beautiful weather and environment with Lake Washington and the trees, close to Canada. -high salaries, great education due to Amazon and Microsoft being headquartered here and investing in the state and schools -0 state income tax. So if you make like $200k USD a year, you only pay 25% in taxes. You get rich very fast -great weather, coffee and rain culture. Seattle is really fun with great food as are most cities and it's walkable. New York: -NYC has to be the most fun and diverse city in the world. Don't fall for the memes, Manhattan especially is so clean and nice. Parties, food, people, dating, jobs, you don't need a car, etc. -Really high paying jobs, but apartments are crazy expensive. Taxes are a bit higher. -Extremely safe, it's one of the safest US cities with one of the highest lifespans.

I've been in US many times but I don't know much about weather in different states. I mean, is there a state where there is only spring / summer weather? I hate winter and I love when there is 21-25C which is 68-76F and I can take long walks with my dog without too much sun, I can play football without burning in heat etc but I also like summer for few months so I can chill at beach etc. That would be a dream.

Come to Minnesota my Russian comrade it is cold like Russia -50F. has lots of woods and trees like Russia. we Ice fish and like to drink lots of alcohol and eat good food. summer can be hot but we have lots of lakes to cool down and swim in. outside of the cities is rural and quite away from all the crazy blue haired people. just normal everyday people.
