Are those gym numbers really that bad?
Twistzz |
Hungary jadyn_x
I started going to the gym in April, and had to skip July because of vacation and a lot of work, so basically 3,5 months. I'm currently 170cm 65kg, skinny bitch. Deadlift: 110kgx5. My max could be about 120 Bench press: 60kgx1 that's my one rep max atm Leg press: 120kg 3x8 sets, but I feel like i could go for 140-160 I was afraid to try it. Squat: 80kg I never trained with a personal trainer, I have some friends in the gym but they are way more ripped. I dunno if my numbers are weak as fuck, or normal.

Surprisingly good for legs considering your weight and height

These numbers seem quite nice normal progression actually. Don't be afraid to push your limits though.

You shouldnt care about their numbers, just continue the grind and you'll get stronger and bigger
2022-08-17 20:03
They're normal-ish for 3.5 months. If anything squat may be a bit low because of improper technique, same with bench, should be easily improved if you keep grinding and improving technique
2022-08-17 20:04
Decent numbers, you're a bit small so no worries, just keep working on your technique and you will get these up. Also keep in mind progress is not the same for everyone.. Do not lose your motivation !
2022-08-17 20:05
If you not gonna compete don't even bother about numbers.

Use logic mate, governments dont want you to live old till pension , so they invented gyms

You’re probably baiting but I’ll reply anyways. If you look at the many studies (like pmid 22777332) strength training is beneficial for the individual health, and actually prevents many of the health problems that people believe to be caused by lifting weights in the first place. Besides, if your logic was actually true (which it isn’t because in Europe we have a public health care system and having people with more health problems is just worse) things like alcohol and cigarettes would not be heavily taxed and would have zero warning or campaigns against them.

Public health care and many studies are sponsored by government , they all are in on it

Refer to the second part of my comment then, logic is not sponsored by the government

You urge others to use logic and then continue on to post in a conspiratorial fashion? Where does that make sense?

I used to go to the gym but I don't anymore, I just do exercises elsewhere. Doesn't mean that I'll live longer, friend... I don't know where the conspiracy comes from.

There is no logic in claiming that the gym is effectively decreasing the lives of others because the "government" created them. Sounds like a conspiracy to me.

In that sense, yes that is logical but only because you have now described as such in a logical fashion. I'm going to assume that gym goers moderate and look after their physical health overtime, as exercise is healthy for everybody. Otherwise, it's good to see you again, my friend. ;)

these numbers are great, honestly dont hear people online, i've never seen anyone in my gym benching more than 100kg for reps and they are big guys, 180cm 95kg+ and lean

well, then you live in a powerlifter gym there are some big guys here and i never seen them putting that much weight and doing it with ease
2022-08-17 20:17
i am currently working out for 1,5 years and i cant bench 225, i am 92kg, somewhere around 18% bodyfat, im currently cutting, eating 1700 kcal. i probably could bench 200 or something up there, i dont really do 1RM's. i can squat with 130kg for reps tho, which i find quite decent and my body looks good, im big for my age, 17y/o.
2022-08-17 20:20
i use 80lb dumbbells for dumbbels incline bench press, for me its a good weight, im not a powerlifter, im not a competitor so...

ofc, me neither. I'm less than 60kg xD but I eat around 2200 cals daily. 120 x 5 on squat and 150 x 2 on deadlift. Cant bench anymore due to injury but it was 95kg x 6 @55kg b.w last time. I'm short af.

How much do you focus on bench? I'm doing it twice a week and my numbers are going up slowly. By the end of the year, my goal is to hit 70kg for reps.
2022-08-17 20:32

i do it once a week, but i dont use barbells, dumbbells have more rom and with that, more activation on the pecs im going back to ppl tho, next week.

Yea, you have a point. I personally more like the bench, I can control that more easily. My left arm is quite weaker than the right, so dumbbell press is really hard for me. My left arm is already tired while I could do one more set with my right arm.

In my normie commercial gym there are a couple guys who I've seen doing 160 for triples and such. Of course, these are quite large guys who pretty much exclusively train bench. Still, 100 for reps is pretty common. That's just bench though. Months go by between when I see other people hit 140+ squat or dead. I don't know if I've seen anyone else hit above 45 OHP for more than a single. Bench is just the most normie gymbro lift, so all of them get exceptionally good at it.
2022-08-17 21:34
don't compare yourself to others. always strive to fix your technique so you don't fuck up your body.
2022-08-17 20:11
You're doing great man!
2022-08-17 20:11
your numbers are quite normal. Don't worry too much about it
2022-08-17 20:14
dude like people are training for years to get ripped its not a race against someone take your time progress slowly so you dont get injured and step by step you will get there, or you know steroids and stuff if you are in a hurry KEKW

2022-08-17 20:31
if you enjoy gym thats more important than numbers. honestly mine are pretty much the same, and im 180cm 80kg..... i've always been really self conscious cause as long as i remember even growing up i always felt weak compared to others my age and still feel that but of course going to the gym that only make that better.
2022-08-17 20:34
For the time you are in , pretty normal / good numbers. Squatting over your bodyweight after this short time is quite good. Keep grinding , you will improve really fast in the beginning 👍
2022-08-17 20:35
You nearly bench your weight thats really good
2022-08-17 20:35
Most important thing is that you’re making progress, keep it up man! And don’t listen to those fools telling you not to lift because “you’ll destroy your body”. As long as you don’t train at failure everyday the health benefits are going to help you live better and longer

Id say that deadlift is nice. You seem like a skinny guy so id say just eat alot and train hard and progressive overload and you should look well fit if your goal is at 75kg
2022-08-17 20:48
Dont worry about numbers / ego-lifting too much
2022-08-17 20:49
65kg for 170cm is not rlly skinny lol Unless you are skinny fat and most of that weight is fat, otherwise 65kg is a normal weight for ur height

dude try to overcome this numbers race and just do your work at the gym and have fun. weights are fun till first injury If I could go back in time, I wouldnt destroy my knees and shoulders with that stupidity of chasing weights in a gym
2022-08-17 21:28
Who cares? If your numbers are weak as fuck, are you going to quit? If your numbers are good, are you going to stop? It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks when the logical reaction you'll have either way is "continue training"

with this weight/height of yours? dude those numbers are incredible but you really should put at least 10+kg more also i would recommend to not trying to ego lift/max 1 lift.
2022-08-17 23:35
Good numbers for 3,5 months of lifting with this weight, train with good technique and eat in a calorie surplus and you will be benching 80kg soon :)

You are going the wrong way if you are caring about weight numbers, and even worse caring about what people think of them... The point is to always keep adding more weight as you feel strong for it, bit by bit, taking your own time. But if the current weight is X or Y, it doesn't matter, what matter is that you should be training till the failure with the proper execution. Ego is your BIGGEST enemy on the gym, don't let it take over you, don't bother yourself about how good or not is the weight you're lifting, only your body can answer that.
