Subs for player interviews
NiKo |

I wonder when will the tourney operators finally stop forcing players who are obviously not fluent enough in English give interviews in it and embarrass themselves? It ruins the whole thing, the image of esports overall, makes the players look like some morons. You instantly see the difference when ruski-speaking players for example are subbed instead of forced into being cringe. Like electronic speech was on point when he had hekku translating, many of the players are quite smart guys, but they simply don't speak the language

i think they do this because their english is still good enough to understand for example in LoL you NEED a translater because the Korean or Chinese guys dont know english at all still would be better with a translater

They can't properly convey what they want, you can see it clearly. They too need translators. Also hltv.org/forums/threads/2674439/subs-for..

most koreans are really terrible at english
2022-09-02 11:38
I think it's just players not even trying to speak properly, like Zywoo went from "idk hehehe" to speaking English well in the interviews

You are comparing school education in shithole postsoviet countries and literally one of the richest countries in the world with that zywoo argument. I'm telling you, they can only communicate in fpl English, because they were taught that little. Chinese is a different story, they mostly don't need it, and koreans I'm pretty sure are good enough in english Also zywoo just didn't want to give those interviews, he spoke english just the same then

they are paid 30k a month dude, they can afford a teacher if they want to learn, Czech Republic is a post soviet country too and my high school teacher was half Russian, so I was learning English with the Russian accent and my English is still at C1 level, just because I go out of my way to learn the language (consume the media in English etc.), you can't blame everything on the schools.

You are again bringing wrong comparisons into this discussion. Czech republic, Poland, Baltic countries etc are a different story, they're democracies, much more integrated with western world, are part of EU, while we are still heavily influenced by russkis, mostly speaking it as our first language even outside of russia . Also "they get paid 30k, if they want to learn, they can learn" argument is so irrelevant dude.

How is that argument irrelevant? Can they not learn if they want to? Do you not have Youtube? Are news articles in English banned?

Half of e-athletes are nolifers guaranteed. All they do is play the game, stream it, and if successful - go party and waste money shopping. But that's not my point. Nobody should be bothered with what they do. It's about us being compelled to watch low quality, cringe content, while we could get some insight into the game, quality info

I think it's just a you problem, I can understand the players pretty well, at least from all the interviews that I've seen so far. Even native English speaking players barely ever give any worthwhile info about what's going on behind the scenes or talk about what was going on during the game and if they do they explain it in a way that even the players that aren't as good at speaking English as the "natives" could explain it, basically they speak in plain English too, since not all viewers are well-versed in English.

You are just ignoring everything I'm saying. Check out the mentioned interviews they give in their preferred language, or just watch Navi or spirit with hekku if you speak russki. Compare that. Also think of the theoretical capacity of what they can say in both languages. Easy logical thinking

Writing subs in real time is a bit difficult isn't it?

Find someone among the current staff, hire someone from the outside, ask the team if they have manager who can help out - many of the possible solutions They also didn't bother to let them speak in own language and add subs in the prerecorded stuff Also I chose that exact wording for the thread's name because it's short and convenient. I didn't only mean subs for prerecorded videos

I don't want people living in their secluded bubbles like in LoL at least have them all attempt to speak the same language in interviews lol, if it's even close to alright and understandable then there's no problem

Or maybe just stop acting like a dick, and thinking the players are embarrassed by this, even though it's just in your bully brain to think that people were embarrassed about not having perfect English... They still speak English well enough to be understood 99% of the time... Accept the fact that people have accents and different skill levels in languages

🤦🏻‍♂️ dude, I speak russki, and I see a huge difference when I watch exact same people give interviews in russki and english. We could get so much more out of this, but it's always the same "we played good, they are good players, etc"

Concept of a bully is thinking that everyone should have perfect English to be allowed to give interviews in English :)

It's not about having to speak perfectly to be allowed to give it in english, but rather about being allowed to give it in your preferred language, if you want to discuss it in terms of rightsm Also, again, check out #14 , that's the one you need, not me

It's not like they are all fucking standing in a line, to be able to give those in english specifically lmao. Elian hates it for example, once saying in the end in russki "this is so hard pizdets" or smth

dude its 2022 if they dont speak english its their problem

Actually it's the viewers that suffer, since the quality of the content drops because of this
