HLTV RANKING RESET - USERS COME
Portugal Worth3d
Do you guys think teams should drop 5-10 ranking atleast when changing a player/multiple? For example: - Movistar lost their best player and are still able to keep top 5 HTLV ranking. Debate :)

It wasn't an idea at all, i was thinking about ideas to 'fix' ranking issues so i just spit the first thing that came to my mind to be able to debate and listen to other opinions. Thanks tho, it wasn't a debate still

They lose 1 player = -20% They lose 2 players =-40% They lose 3 players = reset

That would be nice. But look at Movistar for example. Lost absolutely nothing for changing sunpayus. Atleast you don't notice it on ranking. They were top 6 with sunpayus, made it deep to the tournament all good. Changed to martinezz cuz he Sunpayus left and yet their ranking got better when they should've atleast lost points for losing sunpayus and not for being 'inactive'.

Its a common situation after a player break. Cologne and Valencia are still very relevant and thats what keeps them alive. Notice that they are barely 100 hundred points above 11th c9 so i give them 2/3 weeks before they drop out of top 15. #2 this solution is quick and easy to implement + not hard to understand for a typical hltv user.
2022-09-24 18:00
they lost 60 points(20%) after sunpayus change....

And that is why i gave Movistar as an example. Because it's just not accurate since changing a player can make a team or incredibly worse or better and either way, they should earn their way back to the ranking they're expecting. If they're not getting to top 5 anymore, that's because they don't deserve it. But getting better on rankings after losing matches left and right and being inactive is just weird tbf.

You do realise a lot of teams changed their rosters as well right? MR did lose points but their run from Valencia and Cologne has kept them in that position in combination with other teams also losing points.

thats how it already is lmao

Even better

I think it should but be varied and determined on a factor of how long the player was in the roster along with his statistics, if he was a big performer lose a larger amount of points etc, Sunpayus was in movi for a year as their best performer, so Movi should be rightfully drop a few rankings.

biggest events like majors, cologne, katowice among other big events like epl, blast finals, iem dallas etc. cologne playoffs carries a lot of more weight than epl playoffs which is not finished yet

cologne finished in july. but no other big event finished yet. so cologne is still the last big event that is finished and points were given to. so its the only relevant event that is finished in last 3 months. vitality also lost mistuaa just like moviestar did. both of them lost 20% of their points in 2 weeks rankings will be fine after points for epl is given.
2022-09-24 18:32
They should just revamp the entire ranking system. Make consistency matter more, have the rank be for the entire year (reset in January, whoever wins next big event becomes #1 until next big event), have flukes and top placement matter less, etc

if you want to discuss elements of HLTV ranking, you should know how much weight it has as a whole in the ranking. if HLTV doesnt disclose this calculation, its useless to discuss a part of it.

I actually suggested that couple months ago. I think HTLV should provide how much points each tournament gives and just release their ranking system so people are actually able to argue about it as a whole.

Jonty mentioned that HLTV wants to keep their algorithm a secret, so i guess its GG we're done here. imo: - swapping a player should result in 1/5th loss for selling team, you could even argue those points should be added to the buying team. - cologne just had wayyyyy too much weight in this ranking, thats why LIQ, MRS and AST are in top 5 - giving a team points for buying into BLAST is straight up Pay2Win - Assumptions: decay is too slow and form not significant enough

3rd point is actually true. Teams like C9 and such that are way better than some that are INVITED losing points for not being able to participate ( Yet ) is just dumb. To add on top of this that BLAST actually counts a lot towards the ranking. Qualifiers and non-qualifiers.

yeah we had the discussion around the time that snappi was on HLTV comfirmed; if youre not invited, its practically IMPOSSIBLE to get there to earn those huge amount of points. wasnt it in the prime days of Asstralis the same, they only needed to play like 5 events to stay 1st in ranking all year long. ~ 4 years later, nothing changed.

it is good for the orgs with money and the hype so nothing changes. EPL is a joke that makes hard for tier 2 orgs to become relevant (they don't have a change to play against tier 1 for 5 weeks)

if you enjoy p2w, you should play World of Tanks, Diable Immortal of w/e gaem that gives you an advantage over non paying players. but in a competitive pro esports scene, you just create some sort of segregation that results in giving investors a bigger advantage. it just sucks for teams like ENCE who are building for the future, but are held back becuz someone else spends a fuckton. thats not the way to go imo.

Having this in mind, Dota 2 scene seems much more healthy, it seems to have a lot more tournaments going on all the time. A lot of LANs around the world

when i watch other esports, i just cant believe that there are so few big orgs in CSGO. i totally agree, there is still a lot of growth possible in CSGO.

i think they should keep until the next re ranking as a team could subsequently get better OR worse we need adjustment time for dis

Let them be higher rank, so lower rank teams can beat them and gain better positions faster.

the system has been used in ESL Ranking, nothing good if the same system is implemented to HLTV Ranking better change the algorithm to calculate Form and Event
2022-09-24 20:30
they could maybe try to lower their rank depending on how good or bad the removed and the new players are

The rankings already function like that. If a team loses a player, I believe its 20% like post #32 states but obviously it is different if it a roster overhaul. Only HLTV knows exactly how many points are given to each team but the actual placings and how the ranking changes can usually be calculated pretty easily. Obviously the current rankings are still based upon Cologne but given point decay and EPL being over, the points via final placings will "fix" the ranking. Debates over changes? I guess adding more detailed explanations without giving too much away would be ideal to deter threads constantly slamming HLTV's ranking system.
2022-09-24 22:54
2 problems with your suggestion 1. how you decide player value to the team? 2. if we choose HLTV rating to decide player value, how reliable is HLTV rating system to do that?
