Football is huge everywhere in the US. Soccer is gaining popularity in most of NA though. When I was a kid we didn't even have a soccer league in my town until I was like 12, now it's the primary sport next to hockey.
2022-10-13 15:33
i imagine the rise in american players is mainly causing that? so many random americans in random EU teams now, adams in leeds, reyna @ dortmund, dest in milan etc

that too, we actually have American players who can compete in a top level. we definitely aren't a top 10 country In soccer/football yet. but I could see us being a serious contender within 10 years

Yes every year the top 13-16 yrs go to uk to train in soccer camps

2022-10-12 15:03
Where I live/ref has a lot of central/South Americans so I'm sure that adds a bit. It's more popular than people think though, it's got a solid playerbase, and for example MLS is actually pretty popular surprisingly.

Ehm, so you get like 50 bucks for a football match having like 4 weekends/months to ref? Sounds crazy
2022-09-29 20:28

I could get $50 per game if I did higher level of play/older age groups. In the US we have rec, academy, premier, etc and the higher the division and age group the higher the pay. Usually I can make around $30 a game, but it's not a full 90 minute match, usually 60-70 minutes instead

I see. Tho my point was more about the frequency of the matches. Like I doubt you ref more than 20 matches/month and it seems to be a low-paid job. In Russia only the best refs with FIFA status get like 2,5-3k/month which is considered extremely low for their status comparing with players' contracts in Premier league.

Yeah I'm a teenager so I still live with parents, so a sustainable income isn't really of concern, more just about extra money. But you could work on the weekdays and ref on the weekends if you needed - reffing isnt a full time job for most

If I really grinded it out - 5 games a day (most I can realistically do) on Saturday and Sunday, 4 weekends, I could realistically make well over a grand a month just working weekends. It is pretty physically strenuous though.

Same, but good money + save job + lots of people missing in that field + you can say about yourself that you help sick people to get healthy, so moral highground ez xd Getting med spot in germany is difficult as hell, as you need an "Abitur" (the degree after 12/13 years of school) of 1.0, which only very few people can achieve. (1.0 highest, 4.0 lowest, steps of 0.1, grade is average grade from your last 2 years including final exams)

In Romania, after the university u need to practice being some kind of assistant with low payment for 3-6 years depedning of the field. Just after that u can be a doctor. Thats why a lot of our students leave Romania to work anywhere else bc of the waste of time and money.
2022-09-30 23:26
4 replies
in germany you need to do that too. This is even EU-law afaik. But in Germany I would call the wage during your specialization, working as assistance doctor decent. A quick google search gave me 55k before taxes (which is slightly above german average) rising up to 70k. After that it probably only goes up, so it might be worth it, if you have a passion for it.

2022-10-02 04:24

You would earn about 700-800 euros as an ''assistant''. As a doctor you should be able to earn from 1700 to 4000 euro depending on the field, city etc, but most of them are having a private office where the money flows because they dont depend on the state so much.

Philosophy & biology but have an MBA from a decent school. Key to getting ahead is interviewing well, best advice I can give anyone. Practice a lot and think critically about the needs a business could have & how you can address them. Also a lot people think an MBA is a waste but I would highly recommend especially if you didn't study business as an undergrad has been super useful.
2022-09-29 15:11
2 replies
I find it strange people think MBA's are a waste, considering nearly every person I know with one makes 6 figures. I've been considering getting one just as extra motivation, since I can do it practically for free in a semi-decent program. My main reluctance is I'm already pretty well established where I am and don't technically need it (and regardless of pay I want to maintain my field, which marketing doesn't completely help with despite playing a part).
2022-09-29 17:08
Thanks for advice man, I really need it at this point in my life. Take care!
2022-09-29 19:15
cheat code in life is to have someone who you love and trust next to you to love and trust you. it's much harder to find true love than money. money are mostly irrelevant

Errata: it matters a little bit where you live. I used to work for Swiss company that would pay significantly more for Swiss employees with same qualifications. They even told me that if I moved to Switzerland they would raise my salary by a big margin.

Yes. Poland has preferable tax rate for companies that do R&D. I'm a company myself (self-employed) and I work in IT, so I can make use of this tax rate. I pay 12% income tax and around 7-8% mandatory health insurance. The drawback of this is that govt will not pay me if I get injured or sick enough to be unable to work.

they're everywhere, especially for SWEs, although with what i do remote work doesn't come very often as it's the kind of work that requires you to be in the office. but if i were to transition to something like devops/backend developer position then basically every job i find on a job board is WFH. we seemed to have transitioned over to remote work since COVID and never went back

that's really good to hear. any sites you recommend for finding remote job opportunities in USA? as a non-countrymen that is. I'm kinda stuck deciding between going for a office job nearby or do some certified course and end up in a remote job. The latter really fits me in many ways xD I'm gonna be a SW graduate in a few months so. Would really appreciate the reply.

ah i see, i don't really know how much different it is if you're applying for a WFH position based in the US if you're not a US resident. i imagine you could just apply to any remote position but where to find them for a foreigner i'm not 100% sure. you could try looking on Dice the job site, i see them pop up a lot and they seem to be available to international workers. sorry i cant help much i just dont know that much about the landscape for international work.

The company is small (< 500 employees) so I can't tell you which one. But I will say I'm a Sr Software Engineer so that probably inflates the number by a bit. I switched companies in the beginning of this year when everyone was hiring like crazy so I got a pretty decent salary for a non FANG job. $70k designer, which is high for the position. Working on getting into director roles though, which will get me into 6 figures. I'm ok with it for the moment, I'd need to be making nearly double for the same quality of life in most equivalent areas.

Well, I'm talking about visual design more than physical. I'm sure I could do UX, but I'm not a huge fan of it. Money isn't a big deal to me, but it'd be nice to be even more well off. I'm considering leveraging for an MBA, for instance. Not exactly my favorite thing, but I can easily do it, and for practically nothing.

I own small company that builds houses, make renovations or whatever + work in esports + i have some passive income but I dont count it. Around 7k euro/month after all taxes, costs etc. (just from my 1st work) Poland I can't really say how much I earn an hour cuz it doesnt work like that in my case. I'd have to count all of the hours, then my income from 1 year and do the math.

Dont mind about their salary on EUR/USD. We're fucked in economics as a country. When I was graduate back in years, I was close what I earn today if you compare it in foreign currencies even tho I am making 7-8 times more in TL now.
2022-10-11 10:43
Don't compare just the $ amounts, remember that lots of things cost very differently depending on where you live. Like for example a ½litre Coke here cost $2.40 and a pizza is like $8-9.

Haven't you noticed who is sponsoring the big events and the big teams? Some of those are companies trying to lift their profile among possible future hires, take a companies like Maersk and UPS - they aren't sponsoring to sell their shipping and logistics services, they do it because they want computer gamers to know their names because lots of gamers know how to work computers or will do once they've educated.

incredible how everybody asks me this when I introduce myself as an archaeologist LUL personally, I think that an indigenous/native pipe with a relative datation of 2000-4000k years was the most coolest thing that I've digged (and it was a pretty pipe almost intact). also, i've digged bones (skulls etc) but it's so common that personally I don't get surprised or excited as I was when I dug up the pipe.

Spanish and English teacher in the Czech Republic from 11 up to 16 euros for every 45m lesson but it doesnt mean that i get 14 or 15 bucks times 8, teachers here usually work 23 hours a week top and in my case i have 3 part times which, at the end of the month i cash out 700-800ish euros, but due to the low living cost (200eur for the flat + 200 euros food) I can afford a standard life while I have time for my studies, personal projects, exercise and fun.

That’s should be interesting. Once I met a climbing trainer in the airport. But he’s special in mountains. He use to organise mountain climbing trips for Arabic people. He’s Egyptian but he told me that there’re a lot of people want to go to the mountains but there’s no Arabic speaking trainers. So he told me he earns 25-30k for one mountain trip. Elbrus, Monblanc, Kilimanjaro, Tibet, etc.
