CS:GO year ranking

1. 2016 The best year, had a lot of competition, no eras, lots of updates from Valve 2. 2017 Great year, had a lot of really strong "dream teams" and competition, there were many dominations and unpredictable moments 3. 2015 Legendary year, had a lot of legendary lineups and one of the best mappools, and even the Fnatic era did not ruin that year, because it was not a boring CS, as it is now 4. 2019 Magical year, there were a lot of unexpected turning points especially at the end of the year, it could easily enter the top 3, if not for the controversial AUG and SG 553 meta and worst version of Vertigo 5. 2020 Good competitive year, could easily get into the top 3 but corona ruined it. 6. 2018 The beginning of the year was good, but then Astralis ruined it. No offense, but their meta and era has really made CS worse for viewers, plus a lot of legends have left the game this year. 7. 2022 Although this year is not over yet, we can already note a small number of T1 tournaments, as well as the effect of "partner teams", because of which it is difficult for talented teams to break into the T1 stage, and organizations with weak lineups that signed a contract on time just have free slots. Plus, almost the same problems as in 2021. 8. 2021 Boring CS meta from Gambit, most of the lineups on the t1 scene are weak, almost all tournaments were won by only 2 teams, imbalance M4A1-S and very CT-sided Ancient. 9. 2014 The only good thing about this year is the majors, the rest of what I remember is cheaters, 322, bug abuse in the T1 scene, as well as an imbalance AWP and CZ 10. 2013 Shit game, almost no competition Thoughts?

hmm i was gonna mald about putting 2019 at #4 but you make a good point. I know ppl complained at the time a lot, but looking back on it the SG and AUG really do hold 2019 back competitively. And astralis shutting liquids run down on vertigo, the goofiest and least refined map at the time, just ruined that major for me. ( to clarify, vertigo wasnt the FINAL Map but it did tilt liquid completely and they couldnt recover map 2)

Yes I get that but lemme break down my complaint real quick. Half of 2018 was an amazing super competitive year with Sk, Faze, G2 all fighting for that number 1 spot Second half astralis came around and bullied everyone and won every single event. So he rates it low which is fair. 2019 starts and astralis are STILL bullying everyone for like 3 months. Than liquid come up and theres a bit of a rivalry back and forth with astralis ultimately winning the majors & liquid winning the grand slam. But the start and end of 2019 were dominated by astralis it was just the middle that was competitive. Where 2018 had the first half very competitive second half not so much Both were equally as competitive and as non-competitive imo Idk maybe my memory is shit & maybe I got some c9 bias. But I remember being way more bored during 2019 than 2018. Devils advocate though 2018 london was the most boring major of all time

When astralis returned post the berlin major, it was not the same level of dominance as 2nd half 2018, not even close. You had all 3 teams of astralis liquid and eg reaching finals and EG won both new york and starladder turkey.

also ENCE in 2019 POG POG best year of CS hands down

First half of 2018 was an amazing super competitive period with SK, Faze, G2? Bro are we living in the same universe? I can agree that at the end of 2017 they really fought for the top 1, but at the beginning of 2018 only FaZe claimed, G2 and SK should have at least pass the group stage. In January-March there was really a good CS from FaZe, MOUZ, fnatic, Liquid and NaVi. But it's only 3 months, and only then the astralis era began. And in 2019, although there was a dominance of Liquid, there were still 5 months of hard slaughter, and Astralis did not dominate much in this year.

translaton: I am nostalgic everything before today was better than today there's not a fucking way in hell you can put 2020 above '21 and '22, did you even watch CS then? every tourney felt the same, production was dogshit, onliners were ruining every tournament and there were tech issues every 2-3 rounds

I understand that by mentioning 2020, you immediately remember the lockdown, but in fact, the scene in 2020 was much more interesting and dramatic than in 2021 and 2022. I mean, do you really like to watch 2 teams constantly fighting for the top 1, while the rest hope for a light net in order to climb to a higher place?
2022-11-25 13:51
2020 is easily the worst year

2020 was shit, when things went online everything was just flipped and random teams started winning. Legends who at the last year were amazing got kicked from teams in favor of unknown upcomers, localized every tournament which began the downfall of NA etc.. There are more flaws to the list but 2020 was the worst one

2015 is the best. Fnatic had era but Envyus core had also won like 7 events. Similarly VP, Y and Navi are Also the summer of C9 and the rise of BR scene.
2022-11-25 14:24
2022 weakest scene and lowest level of skill.
2022-11-25 14:27
man i kinda liked 2021 - yes navi won almost everything from april to december but besides that i kinda liked it, + the first major in 2 years
2022-11-25 14:30
2013 was best year for me, the growth and evolution of both the game itself and pro scene was insane, Katowice 2014 changed everything. In my mind there are few "eras" how I split csgo history pre Katowice 2014 - most favourite era, naive, small, almost no money comapred to today 2014-2016 - probably objectively the best years, still big evolution and growth every event 2017-2019 - boring but in the state that everyone wanted since the begining, insane amount of events, teams and money 2020-2021 - shit 2022 - sad downfall in many ways but I am still incredibly greatful for this state of the game
2022-11-25 14:33
1. 2017 because of what you said essentially. 2. 2015 I would like to add that this was the biggest leap forward in the shortest time. All the teams played with much more teamplay, more developed defaults and more stacked scene as far as aimers and skilled individuals go compared to 2014. Every major and big tournament was legendary. I didn't like the awp nerf at all but I kinda get it. 3. 2022 - Great and memorable tournaments all around. Probably my least favourite major(rio) of the bunch but everything else has been great honestly. Interesting first half where only one of the huge investors didn't massively underperform. G2, vitality and liquid all did next to nothing except a final each for the first two. Every event has been memorable and entertaining to watch except the blast lisbon one which was just ok. 4. 2019 - This one is purely subjective. Objectively speaking, there really shouldn't be a reason why it shouldn't be amongst the absolute best. Great storylines, rivalries, and the emergence of the zywoo. Fantastic events during the summer. Even if liquid won them all, we had different opponents at every final. Fnatic, Ence, G2, vitality, faze and ence again. Then post berlin we saw a 3-way rivalry, almost in a rock-paper-scissor fashion. The reemergence of fnatic when they brought back golden and flusha was truly magical. 5. 2016 - Strong year overall but unfortunate first half with two of the best players in the world falling to wrist injuries. That will always stay in the back of my head, would lg and sk really be able to do the things they did if olof and guardian didn't both suffer from injury? Fun 2nd half especially, with like 5 number one teams at different points between august and december. 6. 2018 - First half was really fun with faze, mouz, Fnatic, c9 and astralis all making great and fun tournament runs and even with standins. eleague Boston and Katowice were definitely all-time top 5 events. 7. 2021 - Honestly pretty damn terrible up until cologne. Same problems as in 2020. The iem cologne studio LAN was really hype and FaZe' tournament run was great. The super exciting quarter-final against gambit. Then we had one of the best majors ever and (besides the astralis wackiness) an amazing tournament in Copenhagen. iem winter was also kind of fun. 8. 2013 - Quite underrated. Yes, the game wasn't as developed. Many teams and players were still on 1.6 during the first few months but most of them wouldn't even reach any success in go. The game was fun and exciting to watch and the brawly gameplay really elevated skilled and cocky individual star players. Also the VG NiP rivalry was one of the best ones we've seen. At first NiP beat them every time until the summer, where VG beat them and won tournaments 3 times in a row. 9. 2020 - honestly it started off fantastically with the 3 mini-tournaments of blast and Katowice which was honestly one of the best events we've ever seen in csgo. The beginning of the online era wasn't really all terrible either. The first few tournaments were still pretty fun and exciting(g2 fan ofc) but as the tournaments all came one by one and sometimes even overlapping, it just felt like an endless loop of the same teams playing each other over and over and over again. You lost track of what happened every event, who beat who, and any potential rivalries. 10. 2014 was really weird. Cheating scandals left and right and 2/3 of the majors were kinda messy. NiP won the one major they least deserved to win out of all the finals they were in. Also, the hltv top 20 was so bad. 2013 was kinda accurate but in 2014 they did practically everything wrong. Not the teams'/TO's/game's fault.
