not really, as with any generalization it wont be 100% accurate, but that doesn't mean that Marvel enjoyers aren't the lowest common denominator of film goers. the most popular/mainstream content of any type of media is always geared to the smooth brains because they are the largest demographic.

have you ever tried to watch something that takes a little bit of attention with any of these people? oh I have, I made my roomates watch game of thrones with me years ago. quite fascinating how little these people are able to take in and digest if it's not spoon-fed to them. it's no accident game of thrones got dumber and dumber as it went on and grew in popularity. they had to cater to their new audience.

Sure Marvel isn't at the cornerstone of intellectual property but I've enjoyed some Marvel films despite how basic they are.

but the recent quality of marvel movies has dropped to near unwatchable as the characters have become flanderized (tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Flan..) and woke ideology has been forced into the universe. I'll also enjoy myself a pop song and play call of duty every now and then. but the point remains, that stuff is engineered to appease idiots. You know an artist or creator is a true genius when they can make something that appeals to dumb and smart alike.

The acting was great, it had a perfect mix of laughs and tragic moments, the plot was interesting compared to other tragic comedies. It's not undeserved it became a box office hit - additionally 5% of the income of the movie was donated to a charity, so the success not only benefited producers and such (this obviously does not make the movie any better, but it's a nice bonus).
I still get that some people dislike movies like this, which is okay because people like different things.

I saw it recently when it was rereleased in the theater; still top notch. Spielberg is soooo much better at creating tension in his scenes than 90% of directors. Many have tried to replicate exactly what he did in the original Jurassic Park and nobody has been able to.

Acting is amazing, cinematography is amazing. Special effects didn't age terribly well, but it was done well compared to the book. The only thing it really lacks is more content with the shining itself.. it's rather brief and not nearly any sort of a focus point in the movie, which has it as its title.

yeah and classics shape and influence newer films, so comparing it to something that came out last year is downright stupid. And true classics like The Shining actually hold up very well even to this day, even if ignoring the effect on cinema history.

Most of the imdb good score 1990’s ans 2000’s ”edgy” movies are overrated IMO. Like fight club, inception, shutter island, seven, usual suspects etc.
Because they subvert expectations and are ”trippy”, they get good review. Or used to get. I loved them too 10 years ago, and I still love inception.

I do get what you mean but I feel like you're heavily generalizing a really big category/group of movies as "subverting expectations" and "trippy". I personally don't really like usual suspects for the twist but for the amazing acting performances and hilarious moments (both intentional and not). But goat movie for me is The Seventh Seal if you just want a serious and thought provoking film experience.

True. But ppl prefer series rn. So, good movies are rare rn in any kind. Honestly, i dont have time to watch a whole serie and I feel after one season, the whole concept is often stirred it up. Action series are very often low quality. Good at the beginning, but after few episodes, you can tell they rush the process.

Jason Bourne, the original trilogy at least was good (arguable for 4/5, wasn't fussed on 4 but didn't mind 5 personally) and another one is coming in the future, likely next year.

I disagree. After 6 movies, they keep getting better. Not all of them are great (3 is the weakest), but the quality is always high and they guarantee a fun movie watching experience. But nobody is going to mistake them as replacing Citizen Kane or The Sound of Music as being 10 ten movie of all time.

Of course, that is understandable. I can't imagine any particular actor either, but I'm sure there could have been better picks than Matt Damon who was average at best in the role.
Not only does his stunts not look believeable, he's also fairly difficult to sympathize with as the protagonist. I don't remember the two last movies that well, but at least the first two his performances weren't great.
Half of the time he just has this clueless look on his face while he's supposedly masterminding his way around obstacles.

The bourne films were good when they came out but watching them now, they are a bit dated. Still some cool scenes but yeah, the shakey cam gets on my nerves.
The Dark Knight. I'd still give it an 8.5/10, but calling it one of the best movies of all time is ridiculous imo. Without Heath Ledger's Joker, it'd be a nothing burger. The actor change for Rachel also hurt a lot. Vastly preferred the actor for Batman Begins. Bale's voice for Batman is terrible as always.

You don't make a character, that is supposed to be the love interest of the protagonist, snort coke and have sex with random people, for the audience to necessarily sympathize with her.
She is meant to be an imperfect character that makes a lot of bad choices yet still have a good heart.. and to show that not everything is black and white is relationships. The fact that there's divided opinions on her is pretty much intended.

I don't think it is overrated, simply because it is a completely type of different movie with completely different approaches to Joker. I liked Joker for what it was (and it was honestly a breeze of fresh-air into DC and Marvel super-hero movies) but i don't think anyone would ever claim that Joker is overrated when comparing to Batman: Dark Knight, simply because Batman: Dark Knight is a much bigger-scope movie, It was a very good movie (considering it was a Super-Hero movie), i would even say that entire Batman Trilogy is a beacon of light in Super-Hero movies because it mixes real movie-making (in traditional sense) with the inherently non-sense comic-book stuff in the perfect amount... and Heath Ledger managed to become the star in that entire trilogy imo. That being said, i really liked how Joaquin Phoenix played Joker given what kind of movie Joker was, and i would actually like to see him playing Joker in future DC mainstream movies because i do think Joaquin Phoenix could pull-off a very good Joker in a more action-driven movie. Imo Heath Ledger is still the best Joker (and one of the best performances ever in mainstream-Hollywood-movies), but Joaquin Phoenix is, by very far, my 2nd favorite. I honestly just don't see how Joker (2019) is overrated.

First of all, I don't think it's a bad movie - just overrated, many people I've talked to think that it's like the best movie ever. I guess it's just a matter of taste, Interstellar is a little too melodramatic at points and I think that the whole "other dimension" part was pretty meh. I think 2001 handled similar themes better in that regard. Also the performances varied a lot, some were great some were bad. Also I thought the "love trancends time and space" thing wasn't very good, it's something that sounds deep but since this theme isn't that explored in the film it just ends up being kind of shallow. This is just my opinion though, I don't want to try to ruin the movie for anyone :)

Avatar for sure! I'm still trying to figure-out, to this day, how could Avatar, at any point in time, be the highest grossing movie ever made! Everything about that movie was just bland at best (and please don't come with the technology argument, because other movies that developed/pushed new-technology are still getting shitted-on to this day! And the worst part was that even at the time, plenty of other movies (with much better special-effects) had already been released).

It's not overrated. It's still good but probably one of the worst Nolan films and that's saying something considering all his movies go from good to excellent. I think the problem with Tenet is that the time inversion concept is way too hard to grasp. You can understand it in theory but it's way too tough to follow the characters' path through this mechanic so the excitement gets lost.
Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy overrated as fuck. Heath Ledger's portrayal of the joker is a spectacle, but the film, and perhaps the trilogy, stands on his shoulders. The Dark Knight is in 3rd place in the IMDB ranking, that is too much, it is above The Godfather Part IIand The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. IMO.
