I hate to tell you the truth, but the economy of Russia was not taken care of even before the war. It was very inefficient and corrupted and elite took their personal share of public investments. Just like they still do in Russia. Do you know the "Catch up Portugal" slogan Putin came up with in early 2000? "Catch up with Portugal" project to catch up an average GDP of European Union countries. No, Portugal has now double the GDP than Russia and the GDP of Russia is declining. Looks like Russia is not going to catch up Portugal in the next 10-20 years. So, people in Russia should be asking from Putin why Russia is failing and falling even further behind Portugal if Russia is supposed to be financially strong and fair? Now people and state media in Russia keeps talking about moon nazis and how those are the root cause of all problems in Russia. All studies have shown that authoritarian governance may help to speed up reformations in the beginning but eventually authoritarian regime leads to stagnation and corruption and the ordinary people pay the price eventually.
