Mateu sometimes wants to be the protagonist, but he is great referee, especially in big matches. He sometimes fucks up smaller matches like Mallorca-Cadiz, that's true. But in Supercopa, champions and fifa tournaments he is great.

- foul for penalty was outside of the area, argentinian just rolled into it (not even checking var btw) - paredes is a fucking butcher and should have had a red card - just being the center of attention by distributing a bunch of yellow cards Still a great match tho, really enjoyed it

It was Hernandez Hernandez in VAR. He is a trash referee. And afaik FIFA refs got the order to avoid using var as much as we've seen over last years. Only when necessary (although correcting a penalty outside box is obviously necessary)

If refs mess up big time, there’s a straight call from Lausanne (FIFA headquarters) to fix it. Also BOX line is considered as a BOX by itself, so good call to give a penalty :)

maybe should have given a red card or two but honestly I feel like people are hating his performance too much, what he was allowing made for a super entertaining physical battle of a game

He has an ucl style of refereeing, which means letting play and not giving fouls at every contact. That's why I really like him. Messi is used to getting fouls whenever he falls to a minimum contact.

deserved bro they were being extremely rough with each other during that match, he was honestly holding back, there were multiple red or second yellow challenges/moments in that game

Lahoz was awful. Paredes and Weghorst should both have been sent off. Berghuis got a yellow for nothing, Messi didn't get a yellow for smashing away the ball with his hands in a Dutch attack. Whenever 2 players collided it was a pure coin toss which way he would call and who he'd book.

If he sent off anyone, people would complain he killed the match with it. Maybe berghuis yellow was for reiteration? Haven't watched it so idk. Btw remember this guy didn't get sent off in that match youtu.be/iSN6t9_A82A

Oh the refereeing in 2010 final was awful too. Iniesta was offside for the goal too and it came from a goal kick that should have been a corner.
